We used to take the oath of allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ to hear and obey, and he would tell: In What I am able. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2940)
بَايَعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُ
We used to take the oath of allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ to hear and obey, and he would tell: In What I am able. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2940)
بَايَعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُ
When I gave the pledge of allegiance to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he stipulated that I should give good advice to every Muslim.
سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرًا ؓ يَقُولُ بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاشْتَرَطَ عَلَىَّ وَالنُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ
Whenever we gave the Pledge of allegiance to Messenger of Allah ﷺ for to listen to and obey, he used to say to us, for as much as you can."
كُنَّا إِذَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ يَقُولُ لَنَا فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ
I witnessed Ibn ʿUmar when the people gathered around ʿAbdul Malik. Ibn ʿUmar wrote: I gave the Pledge of allegiance that I will listen to and obey Allah's Slave, ʿAbdul Malik, Chief of the believers according to Allah's Laws and the Traditions of His Apostle as much as I can; and my sons too, give the same pledge.'
بِالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ لِعَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى سُنَّةِ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّةِ رَسُولِهِ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ وَإِنَّ بَنِيَّ قَدْ أَقَرُّوا بِمِثْلِ ذَلِكَ
I gave the Pledge of allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ that I would listen and obey, and he told me to add: 'As much as I can, and will give good advice to every Muslim.'
بَايَعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فَلَقَّنَنِي فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُ وَالنُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ
When the people took the oath of allegiance to ʿAbdul Malik, ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar wrote to him: "To Allah's Slave, ʿAbdul Malik, Chief of the believers, I give the Pledge of allegiance that I will listen to and obey Allah's Slave, ʿAbdul Malik, Chief of the believers, according to Allah's Laws and the Traditions of His Apostle in whatever is within my ability; and my sons too, give the same pledge."
بِالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى سُنَّةِ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّةِ رَسُولِهِ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُ وَإِنَّ بَنِيَّ قَدْ أَقَرُّوا بِذَلِكَ
ʿAbdullah Bin ʿUmar wrote to ʿAbdul Malik bin Marwan, swearing allegiance to him: 'I swear allegiance to you in that I will listen and obey what is in accordance with the Laws of Allah and the Tradition of His Apostle as much as I can.'
بِالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ عَلَى سُنَّةِ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّةِ رَسُولِهِ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُ
I owed allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) on hearing ( is commands) and obeying (them) and the Prophet) instructed me (to act) as lay in my power, and sincerity and goodwill for every Muslim.
بَايَعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فَلَقَّنَنِي فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَالنُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ يَعْقُوبُ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ
We used to take oath to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that we would listen to and obey his orders. He would tell us (to say in the oath): As far as it lies in my power.
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ كُنَّا نُبَايِعُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ يَقُولُ لَنَا فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ
We used to take the oath of allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ to hear and obey, and he would tell: In What I am able.
كُنَّا نُبَايِعُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ وَيُلَقِّنُنَا فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ
"We used to pledge to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to hear and obey." So he would say to us: "As much as you are able."
كُنَّا نُبَايِعُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فَيَقُولُ لَنَا فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
"I pledged to the Messenger of Allah to be sincere toward ever Muslim."
بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى النُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ
"I pledged to the Prophet to hear and obey and to be sincere toward every Muslim."
جَرِيرٌ بَايَعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ وَأَنْ أَنْصَحَ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ
"We used to pledge to the Messenger of Allah to hear and obey, the he said: 'In as much as you can."'
كُنَّا نُبَايِعُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
"When we gave our pledge to the Messenger of Allah to hear and obey, he would say to us: 'In as much as you can".
كُنَّا حِينَ نُبَايِعُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ يَقُولُ لَنَا فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
"I gave my pledge to the Prophet to hear and obey, and he told me to add the words.' In as much as you can, and to be since toward every Muslim"'. (Sahih) '
بَايَعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فَلَقَّنَنِي فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَالنُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ
“I heard Anas bin Malik say: ‘We gave our pledge to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the basis that we would listen and obey. He ﷺ said: “As much as you can.”
سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فَقَالَ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to take the pledge of allegiance based on hearing and obedience, and then he would say: "As much as you are able." And once he said: "Teach one of us whatever you can."
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُبَايِعُ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَقَالَ مَرَّةً فَيُلَقِّنُ أَحَدَنَا فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ
[AI] When we used to pledge allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ, he would teach us or make us repeat in what we were capable of hearing.
كُنَّا إِذَا بَايَعْنَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ يُلَقِّنُنَا أَوْ يُلَقِّفُنَا فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ
[AI] I heard Ibn Umar saying, "When we used to pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding listening and obeying, he would teach us to do whatever we were capable of."
سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ كُنَّا إِذَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ يُلَقِّنُنَا هُوَ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ
[AI] I heard Ibn Umar saying, "When we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him, he used to teach us to listen and obey as much as we were capable."
سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ كُنَّا إِذَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ يُلَقِّنُنَا هُوَ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ
[AI] I heard Ibn Umar saying, "Whenever we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for listening and obeying, he would teach us to the best of our ability."
سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ كُنَّا إِذَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ يُلَقِّنُنَا هُوَ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ

بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فَقَالَ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
“I heard Anas bin Malik say: ‘We gave our pledge to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the basis that we would listen and obey. He ﷺ said: “As much as you can.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2868)
سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدِي هَذِهِ يَعْنِي الْيُمْنَى عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُ

[AI] I heard Jarir saying, "I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to advise every Muslim. He said, 'A price for the deed of Ziad (a person), for verily I am an advisor for you.'"
سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرًا يَقُولُ بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى النُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ مِسْعَرٌ عَنْ زِيَادٍ فَإِنِّي لَكُمْ لَنَاصِحٌ
I pledged to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to perform Salah, pay the Zakah, be sincere toward every Muslim and forsake the idolaters. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4175)
بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى إِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ وَالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ وَالنُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ
Malik related to me from Abdullah ibn Dinar that Abdullah ibn Umar said, "When we took an oath of allegiance with him to hear and obey, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us, 'In what you are able.' "
قَالَ كُنَّا إِذَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ يَقُولُ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
Malik related to me from Abdullah ibn Dinar that Abdullah ibn Umar wrote to Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, making an oath of allegiance. He wrote, "In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate. To the slave of Allah, Abd al-Malik, the amir al-muminin, Peace be upon you. I praise Allah to you. There is no god but Him. I acknowledge your right to my hearing and my obedience according to the sunna of Allah and the sunna of His Prophet, in what I am able."
أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ كَتَبَ إِلَى عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ يُبَايِعُهُ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ أَمَّا بَعْدُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ سَلاَمٌ عَلَيْكَ فَإِنِّي أَحْمَدُ إِلَيْكَ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ وَأُقِرُّ لَكَ بِالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ عَلَى سُنَّةِ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّةِ رَسُولِهِ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُ
