1. Asceticism of the Messenger ﷺ (3/4)

ahmad-zuhd:101ʿAbdullāh from my father > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Mahdī > Zuhayr > al-ʿAlāʾ from his father > Abū Hurayrah

Do you know who is poor? They (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) said: A poor man amongst us is one who has neither dirham with him nor wealth. He (the Holy Prophet) said: The poor of my Umma would be he who would come on the Day of Resurrection with prayers and fasts and Zakat but (he would find himself bankrupt on that day as he would have exhausted his funds of virtues) since he hurled abuses upon others, brought calumny against others and unlawfully consumed the wealth of others and shed the blood of others and beat others, and his virtues would be credited to the account of one (who suffered at his hand). And if his good deeds fall short to clear the account, then his sins would be entered in (his account) and he would be thrown in the Hell-Fire. (Using translation from Muslim 2581)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "The sun has never risen but that two angels are placed on its sides, calling out in a voice that is heard by the people of the earth, except for the two heavy ones. They say, 'O people, come to your Lord, for what is little but sufficient is better than what is abundant but distracts. And never has a sun set but that two angels are sent in its place, calling out in a voice that is heard by the people of the earth, except for the two heavy ones.' O Allah, grant sustenance to the spender and destroyer."

But if it were dropped from the top of the chain it would travel for forty years, day and night, before it would reach its foundation or bottom.” (Hasan) (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2588)

"He will be given water of Sadid to drink, he will swallow it..." that the Prophet ﷺ said: " It will be brought toward his mouth and he will dislike it, so whenever it is brought closer to him it will melt his face and the skin of his head will fall into it. Then whenever he drinks from it, his bowels will be severed until it comes out from his anus. Allah, the Blessed and Exalted says: "And they will be given water of Hamim to drink such that it cuts up their bowels..." and He says: "And if they call for drink they will be given water of Muhl which melts the faces, the worst of drinks..." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2583)

I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "A (small) place equal to an area occupied by a whip in Paradise is better than the (whole) world and whatever is in it; and an undertaking (journey) in the forenoon or in the afternoon for Allah's Cause, is better than the whole world and whatever is in it." Don't you eat and drink according to your heart's desire, whereas I saw that your Prophet ﷺ (at times) could not find even an inferior quality of the dates with which he could fill his belly? Qutaiba, however, did not make a mention of It. (Using translation from Muslim 2977a)

[Machine] The people of knowledge protected their knowledge and placed it with their own people, in order to benefit the people of their time. However, the people of this world came and belittled them. I heard your Prophet ﷺ say, "Whoever made his worries one single concern, Allah will suffice him in all his worries. And whoever became preoccupied with worries unrelated to the affairs of this world, Allah will not care in which valleys he perishes."

A man said to Sufyan, "What a strict hadith this is!" Sufyan asked, "And what makes it so strict?" The man replied, "Allah (SWT) says: 'There is no good in most of their secret talks except (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allah's Cause), or Maa’roof (Islamic Monotheism and all the good and righteous deeds which Allah has ordained), or antisadistic behaviors between the people.'
