Duʿāʾ of the Prophet ﷺ for the parents at the death of their child who then bore nine pious children

bukhari:1301Bishr b. al-Ḥakam > Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah > Isḥāq b. ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Ṭalḥah > Anas b. Mālik

One of the sons of Abu Talha became sick and died and Abu Talha at that time was not at home. When his wife saw that he was dead, she prepared him (washed and shrouded him) and placed him somewhere in the house. When Abu Talha came, he asked, "How is the boy?" She said, "The child is quiet and I hope he is in peace." Abu Talha thought that she had spoken the truth. Abu Talha passed the night and in the morning took a bath and when he intended to go out, she told him that his son had died, Abu Talha offered the (morning) prayer with the Prophet ﷺ and informed the Prophet ﷺ of what happened to them. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah bless you concerning your night. (That is, may Allah bless you with good offspring)." Sufyan said, "One of the Ansar said, 'They (i.e. Abu Talha and his wife) had nine sons and all of them became reciters of the Qur'an (by heart).' "

Showing patience at the loss of a child

bukhari:5470Maṭar b. al-Faḍl > Yazīd b. Hārūn > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAwn > Anas b. Sīrīn > Anas b. Mālik

Abu Talha had a child who was sick. Once, while Abu Talha was out, the child died. When Abu Talha returned home, he asked, "How does my son fare?" Um Salaim (his wife) replied, "He is quieter than he has ever been." Then she brought supper for him and he took his supper and slept with her. When he had finished, she said (to him), "Bury the child (as he's dead)." Next morning Abu Talha came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him about that. The Prophet ﷺ said (to him), "Did you sleep with your wife last night?" Abu Talha said, "Yes". The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah! Bestow your blessing on them as regards that night of theirs."

Um Sulaim gave birth to a boy. Abu Talha told me to take care of the child till it was taken to the Prophet. Then Abu Talha took the child to the Prophet ﷺ and Um Sulaim sent some dates along with the child. The Prophet ﷺ took the child (on his lap) and asked if there was something with him. The people replied, "Yes, a few dates." The Prophet took a date, chewed it, took some of it out of his mouth, put it into the child's mouth and did Tahnik for him with that, and named him 'Abdullah.

Allah puts mercy in the hearts of who He wills; Only the merciful will be shown Mercy

bukhari:5655Ḥajjāj b. Minhāl > Shuʿbah > ʿĀṣim > Abū ʿUthmān > Usāmah b. Zayd

a daughter of the Prophet ﷺ sent a message to him while he, along with Saʿd and Ubay, were with the Prophet ﷺ saying: My daughter is dying; please come." The Prophet ﷺ sent her his greetings and said, "It is for Allah what He takes, and what He gives; everything before Him has an appointed time, so you should hope for the reward and remain patient." She again sent a message, beseeching him by Allah, ˹to come˺. So the Prophet ﷺ got up. and so did we.

The child was placed on the lap of the Prophet ﷺ while his breath was irregular. Tears flowed from the eyes of the Prophet ﷺ. Saʿd said to him, "What is this, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" He said. "This Is Mercy which Allah has embedded in the hearts of whomever He wills of His servants. Allah does not bestow His Mercy on anyone other than the ones who are merciful."

Story of the People of the Ditch and how steadfastness in belief triumphs over a tyrant king and his persecution

muslim:3005Haddāb b. Khālid > Ḥammād b. Salamah > Thābit > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Abū Laylá > Ṣuhayb

There lived a king before you and he had a (court) magician. As he (the magician) grew old, he said to the king: I have grown old, send some young boy to me so that I should teach him magic. He (the king) sent to him a young man so that he should train him (in magic). And on his way (to the magician) he (the young man) found a monk sitting there. He (the young man) listened to his (the monk's) talk and was impressed by it. It became his habit that on his way to the magician he met the monk and set there and he came to the magician (late). He (the magician) beat him because of delay. He made a complaint of that to the monk and he said to him: When you feel afraid of the magician, say: Members of my family had detained me. And when you feel afraid of your family you should say: The magician had detained me.

It so happened that there came a huge beast (of prey) and it blocked the way of the people, and he (the young boy) said: I will come to know today whether the magician is superior or the monk is superior. He picked up a stone and said: O Allah, if the affair of the monk is dearer to Thee than the affair of the magician, cause death to this animal so that the people should be able to move about freely. He threw that stone towards it and killed it and the people began to move about (on the path freely). He (the young man) then came to that monk and Informed him and the monk said: Sonny, today you are superior to me. Your affair has come to a stage where I find that you would be soon put to a trial, and in case you are put to a trial don't give my clue.

That young man began to treat the blind and those suffering from leprosy and he in fact began to cure people from (all kinds) of illness. When a companion of the king who had gone blind heard about him, he came to him with numerous gifts and said: If you cure me all these things collected together here would be yours. He said: I myself do not cure anyone. It is Allah Who cures and if you affirm faith in Allah, I shall also supplicate Allah to cure you. He affirmed his faith in Allah and Allah cured him.

He came to the king and sat by his side as he used to sit before. The king said to him: Who restored your eyesight? He said: My Lord. Thereupon he said: It means that your Lord is One besides me. He said: My Lord and your Lord is Allah, so he (the king) took hold of him and tormented him till he gave a clue of that boy. The young man was thus summoned and the king said to him: O boy, it has been conveyed to me that you have become so much proficient in your magic that you cure the blind and those suffering from leprosy and you do such and such things. Thereupon he said: I do not cure anyone; it is Allah Who cures, and he (the king) took hold of him and began to torment him. So he gave a clue of the monk. The monk was thus summoned and it was said to him: You should turn back from your religion. He, however, refused to do so. He (ordered) for a saw to be brought (and when it was done) he (the king) placed it in the middle of his head and tore it into parts till a part fell down. Then the courtier of the king was brought and it was said to him: Turn back from your religion. Arid he refused to do so, and the saw was placed in the midst of his head and it was torn till a part fell down.

Then that young boy was brought and it was said to him: Turn back from your religion. He refused to do so and he was handed over to a group of his courtiers. And he 'said to them: Take him to such and such mountain; make him climb up that mountain and when you reach its top (ask him to renounce his faith) but if he refuses to do so, then throw him (down the mountain). So they took him and made him climb up the mountain and he said: O Allah, save me from them (in any way) Thou likest and the mountain began to quake and they all fell down and that person came walking to the king. The king said to him: What has happened to your companions? He said: Allah has saved me from them.

He again handed him to some of his courtiers and said: Take him and carry him in a small boat and when you reach the middle of the ocean (ask him to renounce) his religion, but if he does not renounce his religion throw him (into the water). So they took him and he said: O Allah, save me from them and what they want to do. It was quite soon that the boat turned over and they were drowned and he came walking to the king, and the king said to him: What has happened to your companions? He said: Allah has saved me from them.

He said to the king: You cannot kill me until you do what I ask you to do. And he said: What is that? He said: You should gather people in a plain and hang me by the trunk (of a tree). Then take hold of an arrow from the quiver and say: In the name of Allah, the Lord of the young boy; then shoot an arrow and if you do that then you would be able to kill me. So he (the king) called the people in an open plain and tied him (the boy) to the trunk of a tree, then he took hold of an arrow from his quiver and then placed the arrow in the bow and then said: In the name of Allah, the Lord of the young boy; he then shot an arrow and it bit his temple. He (the boy) placed his hands upon the temple where the arrow had bit him and he died and the people said: We affirm our faith in the Lord of this young man, we affirm our faith in the Lord of this young man, we affirm our faith in the Lord of this young man. The courtiers came to the king and it was said to him: Do you see that Allah has actually done what you aimed at averting?

They (the people) have affirmed their faith in the Lord. He (the king) commanded ditches to be dug at important points in the path. When these ditches were dug, and the fire was lit in them it was said (to the people): He who would not turn back from his (boy's) religion would be thrown in the fire or it would be said to them to jump in that. (The people courted death but did not renounce religion) till a woman came with her child and she felt hesitant in jumping into the fire and the child said to her: O mother, endure (this ordeal) for it is the Truth.

A child having fits of epilepsy and the Prophet ﷺ healing him

ahmad:17549Wakīʿ > al-Aʿmash > al-Minhāl b. ʿAmr > Yaʿlá b. Murrah from his father

that a woman came to the Prophet ﷺ with her child saying that he is having fits ˹of epilepsy˺. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Get out O enemy of Allah! I am the Messenger of Allah!" ˹The narrator˺ said that ˹the Prophet moved away.˺ She gifted him two rams, something from aqiṭ (made from curds or cheese), and something from butter.˹The narrator˺ said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Take the aqiṭ and the butter and one of the rams." and he returned the other to her.

ahmad:2133Yazīd > Ḥammād b. Salamah > Farqad al-Sabakhī > Saʿīd b. Jubayr > Ibn ʿAbbās

that a woman came with her child to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, he has fits ˹of epilepsy˺ and they come to him while we're eating and he ruins our meals. ˹The narrator˺ said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiped over his chest and made duʿāʾ for him and he vomited and something similar to a black jirw/jarw (a predator or a young dog) came out of his mouth and he was cured.

Construction of the Ark of Nūḥ and the story of the mother of the young child at the time of the Great Flood

hakim:4010ʿAlī b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Mānī > Aḥmad b. Ḥāzim > Abū Gharazah > Mūsá b. Yaʿqūb al-Zamʿī > Fāʾid a freed slave of ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAlī > Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Abū Rabīʿah

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If Allah were to show Mercy to anyone from among the nation of Nūḥ, he would show Mercy to Umm al-Ṣabī (mother of the young boy)." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Nūḥ remained with his nation for a thousand years save fifty inviting them ˹to the Message˺ until the end of his time. He planted trees and they became plentiful/large and they ˹grew˺ in all different ways. Then he cut them and began to make his ship. ˹The people˺ used to pass by and say that he is making a ship on land, how would it sail?' The he would said, 'You will soon find out.'

When he was finished with it and 'fār al-tannūr' (commonly interpreted as the bursting of springs from the ground) and the flooding started in the pathways. Umm al-Ṣabī feared for ˹her child˺ and she loved him intensely. She left toward the mountain until she reached a third of it. When the water reached it, she left from there until she settled on the two-thirds of the mountain. Then when the water reached it, she left from there until settled on ˹top˺ of the mountain. When the water reached up to her neck, she lifted him in her arms until the water washed him away. So if Allah were to show Mercy to anyone among them, he would show Mercy to Umm al-Ṣabī."

This Ḥadīth has a ṣaḥīḥ isnād and they (Bukhārī and Muslim) did not collect it.
