خَيْرَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي حَدْرَدٍ أُمُّ الدَّرْدَاءِ وَيُقَالُ لَهَا هُجَيْمَةُ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Indeed, the best thing that will be placed on the Scale on the Day of Judgment is good character."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ أَفْضَلَ مَا يُوضَعُ فِي الْمِيزَانِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ الْخُلُقُ الْحَسَنُ»

[AI] That Khansa bint Khidam was married off by her father while she was reluctant, so she went to the Prophet ﷺ and he nullified her marriage.

أَنَّ خَنْسَاءَ بِنْتَ خِدَامٍ زَوَّجَهَا أَبُوهَا وَهِيَ كَارِهَةٌ فَأَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «فَرَدَّ نِكَاحَهَا»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ met her when she was coming from the bathroom, and he said, "Where have you come from, O Umm Al-Darda?" She replied, "I have come from the bathroom, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Any woman who removes her clothes outside of her house has violated the privacy between her and Allah."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ لَقِيَهَا وَهِيَ مُقْبِلَةٌ مِنَ الْحَمَّامِ فَقَالَ «مِنْ أَيْنَ أَقْبَلْتِ يَا أُمَّ الدَّرْدَاءِ» فَقَالَتْ مِنَ الْحَمَّامِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ وَضَعَتْ ثِيَابَهَا فِي غَيْرِ بَيْتِهَا هَتَكَتْ مَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ اللهِ مِنْ سِتْرٍ»

[AI] I heard Umm ad-Darda' say: "I came out of the bathroom when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me and asked, 'Where are you, Umm ad-Darda?" I said, 'From the bathroom.' He said, 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, no woman puts on her clothes in a place other than the house of one of her mothers except that she has torn down every barrier between her and the Most Merciful, the Blessed and Exalted."

سَمِعْتُ أُمَّ الدَّرْدَاءِ تَقُولُ خَرَجْتُ مِنَ الْحَمَّامِ فَلَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مِنْ أَيْنَ يَا أُمَّ الدَّرْدَاءِ؟» فَقُلْتُ مِنَ الْحَمَّامِ فَقَالَ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا مِنِ امْرَأَةٍ تَضَعُ ثِيَابَهَا فِي غَيْرِ بَيْتِ إِحْدَى أُمَّهَاتِهَا إِلَّا كَانَتْ هَاتِكَةً كُلَّ سِتْرٍ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ الرَّحْمَنِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى»

[AI] Did you hear anything from the Prophet ﷺ? She said: Yes, I entered upon him while he was sitting in the gathering and I heard him say, "The first thing to be weighed in the balance is good character."

أَسَمِعْتِ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ شَيْئًا؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ دَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ «أَوَّلُ مَا يُوضَعُ فِي الْمِيزَانِ الْخُلُقُ الْحَسَنِ»

[AI] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , "Whoever stays with a group of Muslims for three days, he will be credited with the reward of having remained with them for a year."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ رَابَطَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ سَوَاحِلِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَجْزَأَتْ عَنْهُ رِبَاطَ سَنَةٍ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah created the disease and the cure, so seek treatment but do not seek treatment through Haram (forbidden means)."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ خَلَقَ الدَّاءَ وَالدَّوَاءَ فَتَدَاوَوْا وَلَا تَتَدَاووا بِحَرَامٍ»

[AI] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, does anger harm?" He said, "Yes, just as hitting a tree harms."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَلْ يَضُرُّ الْغَيْظُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ كَمَا يَضُرُّ الشَّجَرَ الْخَبَطُ»

[AI] "Invoke Allah for us with good, for indeed the Prophet ﷺ used to say, 'Verily, the supplication of the oppressed is answered for his brother in the unseen, by an angel who supports him upon his supplication, whenever he supplicates for him with good, he says: "Ameen, and for you the same."' He said, 'Then I went out to the market and I met Abu Darda and he told me about the Prophet ﷺ similarly.'"

ادْعُ اللهَ لَنَا بِخَيْرٍ فَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ دَعْوَةَ الْمَظْلُومِ مُسْتَجَابَةٌ لِأَخِيهِ بِظَهْرِ الْغَيْبِ عِنْدَ رَأْسَهِ مَلَكٌ يُؤَمِّنُ عَلَى دُعَائِهِ كُلَّمَا دَعَا لَهُ بِخَيْرٍ قَالَ آمِينَ وَلَكَ بِمِثْلٍ» قَالَ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ إِلَى السُّوقِ فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ فَحَدَّثَنِي عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِمِثْلِهِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ met her one day and said, "Where have you come from, O Umm Ad-Darda?" She replied, "From the public bath." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to her, "Any woman who removes her clothes outside of her house, except in the public bath, has torn what is between her and Allah's covering."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَقِيَهَا يَوْمًا فَقَالَ «مِنْ أَيْنَ جِئْتِ يَا أُمَّ الدَّرْدَاءِ؟» قَالَتْ مِنَ الْحَمَّامِ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا مِنِ امْرَأَةٍ تَنْزِعُ ثِيَابَهَا فِي غَيْرِ بَيْتِهَا إِلَّا هَتَكَتْ مَا بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ اللهِ مِنْ سِتْرٍ»

[AI] She brought jewelry to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "I have given this in charity." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A woman cannot dispose of her wealth without the permission of her husband. Did you seek the permission of Ka'ab?" I said, "Yes." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for Ka'ab and asked, "Did you give permission to your wife to give this in charity?" He said, "Yes." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ accepted from her a black worn-out cloak that she used to sweep the mosque with in order to protect it from harm.

أَنَّهَا أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِحُلِيٍّ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي تَصَدَّقْتُ بِهَذَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّهُ لَا يَجُوزُ لِلْمَرْأَةِ فِي مَالِهَا أَمْرٌ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ زَوْجِهَا فَهَلِ اسْتَأْذَنْتِ كَعْبًا؟» فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى كَعْبٍ فَقَالَ «هَلْ أَذِنْتَ لِخَيْرَةَ أَنْ تَصَّدَّقَ بِحُلِيِّهَا؟» فَقَالَ نَعَمْ فَقَبِلَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْهَا الْخَرْقَاءُ السَّوْدَاءُ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تُمِيطُ الْأَذَى عَنْ مَسْجِدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

[AI] Durratu bintu Abi Lahab was fostered by Harith bin Abi Dunya and she bore him Ukba, Al-Walid, and Abu Muslim. Then she came to the Prophet ﷺ in Medina, and the people talked a lot about her parents. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and she said, "O Messenger of Allah, have the disbelievers had children like me?" The Prophet ﷺ said to her, "What is the matter?" She said, "The people of Medina have informed me about my parents." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "After you pray Dhuhr, pray wherever you wish." So the Prophet ﷺ prayed Dhuhr, then turned to her and faced the people, saying, "O people, do you have lineages while I have no lineage?" Upon hearing this, Umar became angry and said, "May Allah be angry with anyone who angers you!" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "This is my cousin's daughter, and no one should speak to her except with goodness."

كَانَتْ دُرَّةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي لَهَبٍ عِنْدَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ فَوَلَدَتْ لَهُ عُقْبَةَ وَالْوَلِيدَ وَأَبَا مُسْلِمٍ ثُمَّ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَأَكْثَرَ النَّاسُ فِي أَبَوَيْهَا فَجَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا وَلَدَ الْكُفَّارُ غَيْرِي؟ فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَمَا ذَاكَ؟ قَالَتْ قَدْ آذَانِي أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ فِي أَبَوَيَّ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِذَا صَلَّيْتِ الظُّهْرَ فَصَلِّي حَيْثُ أَرَى» فَصَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهَا فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَلَكُمْ نَسَبٌ وَلَيْسَ لِي نَسَبٌ» فَوَثَبَ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ غَضِبَ اللهُ عَلَى مَنْ أَغْضَبَكَ فَقَالَ «هَذِهِ بِنْتُ عَمِّي فَلَا يَقُلْ لَهَا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا خَيْرًا»

[AI] About the wife of Durrah bint Abi Lahab, she reported: "I was with Aisha when a man came to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet was on the pulpit and the man called out to him, saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, who among the people is the best?' So, the man came closer and the Prophet said, 'The best among the people is the one who is the most God-fearing, commands good, forbids evil, and maintains family ties.'"

عَنْ زَوْجِ دُرَّةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي لَهَبٍ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ فَجِيءَ بِرَجُلٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ كَانَ نَادَاهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَيُّ النَّاسِ خَيْرٌ؟ قَالَتْ فَأَتَى الرَّجُلُ فَأَخَذَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَيْسَ لِي ذَنْبٌ أَمَرَنِي فُلَانٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «خَيْرُ النَّاسِ أَتْقَاهُمْ وَآمَرُهُمْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَأَنْهَاهُمْ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَأَوْصَلُهُمْ لِلرَّحِمِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by us and asked for water, so I got up and went to a well and gave him water. A man wearing two green garments asked him, and he said, "Worship Allah alone and do not associate anything with Him, establish prayer, and give Zakat." He said, "Then the best of my Ummah are my generation, then those who follow them." Shu'bah was uncertain about the chain of narrators of this hadith.

مَرَّ بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَاسْتَسْقَى فَقُمْتُ إِلَى كُوزٍ فَسَقَيْتُهُ فَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَانِ أَخْضَرَانِ فَقَالَ «تَعْبُدُ اللهَ لَا تُشْرِكَ بِهِ شَيْئًا وَتُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ وَتُؤْتِي الزَّكَاةَ» قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «خَيْرُ أُمَّتِي قَرْنِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ» وَهَمَ شُعْبَةُ فِي إِسْنَادِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ came to us when I got married to the daughter of Abu Lahab and said, "Is there any entertainment?"

دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حِينَ تَزَوَّجْتُ بِنْتَ أَبِي لَهَبٍ فَقَالَ «هَلْ مِنْ لَهُوٍ»
