[Machine] There was a matter that saddened me and I did not ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it, nor did I hear anyone ask him about it. So, I waited for the opportunity and entered one day while he was performing ablution. I found him free and in a good state of mind, so I said, "O Messenger of Allah, may I ask you a question?" He said, "Yes, ask about what concerns you." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is faith?" He said, "Forbearance and patience." I said, "And which of the believers has the best faith?" He said, "The one with the best character." I said, "Which of the Muslims has the best Islam?" He said, "The one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe." I said, "Which jihad is the best?" He lowered his head and remained silent for a while, until I feared that I had burdened him, and I wished that I had not asked him. The previous day I heard him say, "Verily, the greatest among the Muslims in sin is the one who asks about something that is not prohibited for him, and it becomes prohibited for him due to his questioning." So, I sought refuge with Allah from the anger of Allah and the anger of His Messenger. He then raised his head and said, "What did you say?" I said, "Which jihad is the best?" He said, "A word of justice spoken in front of an oppressive ruler."

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ addressed them and said, "May Allah bless a person who hears my speech and understands it. There are those who carry knowledge, but have no understanding of it, and there are those who carry knowledge and pass it on to those who have more understanding than them."

[Machine] We received the book of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, to Umair ibn Murran and those who converted from Hamdan. Peace be upon you. I praise to Allah, there is no god but Him. After that, we have received news of your Islam from the land of the Romans, so rejoice, for Allah has guided you with His guidance. When you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and you establish prayer and give Zakat, then you have the protection of Allah and the protection of His Messenger over your lives, wealth, and the land of Alyun that you have embraced, its plains, mountains, springs, and pastures. They will not be oppressed or harmed. Indeed, charity is not permissible for Muhammad or his family. Indeed, Malik ibn Murarah al-Rahawi has preserved the unseen and fulfilled the trust, and conveyed the message. I command you, O Umair ibn Murran, to be good, for he is being watched by his people. May your Lord love you."

[Machine] His grandfather was 'Umayr ibn Habib ibn Khumashah. He pledged allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ in a dream and advised his son, saying, "Beware of keeping company with foolish people, as their company is a disease. Whoever avoids being deluded by foolish people will be content with his patience, and whoever loves them will regret it. Whoever does not accept a small harm from a fool will accept a great harm. Whoever endures what he dislikes will attain what he loves. And when one of you wants to command good or prohibit evil, let him be patient in the face of harm and have faith in the reward from Allah, for whoever has faith in the reward from Allah will not be affected by harm."

[Machine] From Abu Dawood al-Mazini, and Abu Dawood was one of the people of Badr. He said, "We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and entered the Masjid of the Caliphate, where he prayed four units of prayer. Then he left the mosque, and those who were in the mosque heard him say, 'The people of the mosque have left.' When his mount approached, he said, 'The people of the mosque have left.' Then, when he reached the open desert, he said, 'The people of the desert have left.' And they all believed him."

[Machine] Safwan wished that life would become worse after the defeat of Badr. Umayr said, "By Allah, there is nothing good in life anymore. If it weren't for the debts and my family and dependents, I would not find any reason to stay alive. I would have gone to Muhammad and killed him. If it weren't for my fear of him, I would have killed him. Safwan was pleased with Umayr's words, so he said to him, "Go ahead and stay with me for a few nights." Umayr arrived at the city and stopped at the door of the mosque. He took out his sword, which was Sharpened and poisoned, and Umar ibn al-Khattab saw him as he was talking to a group of Ansar who were discussing the Battle of Badr and thanking Allah for his blessings. When Umar saw Umayr with his sword, he became alarmed and said to him, "You have this dog with you, the enemy of Allah, who has stirred up discord among us and betrayed our people." Umar then entered and informed the Prophet of what had happened. The Prophet said, "Bring him to me." Umar and Umayr entered along with their companions, and the Prophet ordered his companions to be cautious and aware of Umayr when he entered. Umar began to insult Umayr, and the Prophet asked Umar to leave him alone. As Umar approached the Prophet, he greeted him in the manner of the people of ignorance, but the Prophet corrected his greeting and said that Allah has honored us with a better greeting, which is As-salamu alaikum, the greeting of the people of Paradise. [Machine] Umair ibn Wahb al-Jumahi sat with Safwan ibn Umayyah after the people of Badr from the Quraysh were afflicted with calamities in the Hijr Isma'il (a place near the Kaaba). He was one of those who harmed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions and insulted them while they were in Makkah. Umair's son, Wahb ibn Umair, was taken captive by the companions of Badr. Umair mentioned the hardships of the people of Quraysh and Safwan said, "By Allah, there is still life after them." Umair said, "You speak the truth. By Allah, if it weren't for the debts I owe and my children who are vulnerable after me, I would ride to Muhammad to kill him. For in them is my son held captive. So seize this opportunity, Safwan." Safwan said to him, "I will settle your debt and your children will be with my children. They will want for nothing that I am unable to provide." Umair said, "Keep my matter and yours a secret." Safwan agreed. Umair ordered his sword to be sharpened and poisoned, then he set off for Madinah. While Umar ibn al-Khattab was in Madinah, sitting with a group of Muslims, talking about the day of Badr and how Allah had honored them and how they had prevailed over their enemies, he saw Umair ibn Wahb standing at the door of the mosque, his sword wrapped with a cloth. Umar said, "This is that dog, the enemy of Allah, Umair ibn Wahb. He has come for nothing but evil." Umar then went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, this is the enemy of Allah, Umair ibn Wahb. He has come with his sword wrapped." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Let him in." Umair approached, his sword wrapped, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Send him in, O Umar. Call him

[Machine] May Allah curse life after the martyrs of Badr. By Allah, there is no better life after them. If it weren't for the debt upon me, I wouldn't care about providing for my family. I would leave and go to Muhammad and kill him. If my eyes had their fill of him, I have a reason with him, and I will use it against him. I will say, "I have come for my captive son." Safwan rejoiced at his words and said, "By your religion and family, you are an example of my own family in terms of financial support. I cannot give them anything." Safwan carried him and prepared him, and ordered Umair's sword to be sharpened and poisoned. Umair said to Safwan, "Keep me hidden for a few days." Umair approached until he reached Medina and camped at the gate of the Masjid. He tied his camel and took his sword, then headed towards the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . [Machine] From Abu Imran Al-Jawni, I do not know of it except from Anas ibn Malik who said: Wahb ibn Umayr witnessed the Battle of Uhud as a disbeliever and he was wounded. He was among the dead when a man from the Ansar passed by and recognized him. The man placed his sword on Wahb's stomach until it came out from his back, then he left him. When the night fell and the cold weather struck him, he went to Makkah, and he was cured. He met Safwan ibn Umayyah in a cave and Wahb said, "If it weren't for my debts and my family, I would have loved to be the one to kill Muhammad." Safwan asked him, "How would you do it?" Wahb replied, "I am a generous man and I would approach him with kindness, then strike him with my sword while riding a horse, and no one would be able to catch me." Safwan said, "Your family is with my family, and you have debts to me." So, Wahb sharpened his sword and named it, then went out to Madinah with the sole intention of killing the Prophet. When he arrived in Madinah, Umar ibn Al-Khattab saw him and felt uneasy about him. Umar said to the companions of the Prophet, "I saw Wahb approaching our city and he is a treacherous man. Prepare to defend your Prophet." The Muslims surrounded the Prophet and Wahb came and stood in front of him. He said, "Good morning, Muhammad." The Prophet replied, "Allah has replaced it with something better." Wahb said, "I have come to redeem my captives." The Prophet asked, "What about the sword?" Wahb said, "We carried it on the day of Badr but we were not successful nor triumphant." The Prophet asked, "What did you say to Safwan in the cave?" Wahb replied, "I informed him of what people on earth say but they call you a liar. But I see that you inform the heavens of your news. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and you are the Messenger of Allah." Wahb then said, "Oh Messenger of Allah, give me your turban." The Prophet gave him his turban and Wahb left for Makkah. Umar said, "He has arrived and he is more detestable to me than a pig," but when he returned, Umar said, "He is more beloved to me than some of my children."

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ came and the delegation of Abd al-Qays wanted to leave. They said, "You have memorized everything you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so ask him about wine for us." So they went to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we are in a land that is barren and the only thing that can benefit us here is drinking." He said, "What is your drink?" They said, "Wine." He asked, "In what do you drink it?" They said, "In the small container." He said, "Do not drink in the small container." They said, "By Allah, our people will not be pleased with us if we do not drink in the small container." So they returned and asked him again, and he gave them the same answer. Then they came back and he said, "Do not drink in the small container, for one of you will strike a blow from which he will never recover until the Day of Resurrection." They laughed and he asked, "What are you laughing at?" They said, "O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, we have indeed drunk from the small container and some of us hit others, causing them to be crippled until the Day of Resurrection."

Umar replied, "Indeed, Allah Almighty can admit people into Paradise with a handful or even with a blade of grass." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Umar spoke the truth."

[Machine] He had a sister, and whenever he went to the Prophet ﷺ, she would incite him and insult the Prophet ﷺ. She was a polytheist, so one day he armed himself with a sword and went to her. He placed the sword on her and killed her. Then her sons came and cried out, saying, "We know who killed our mother. Will you kill our mother's killer? And these people have parents who are polytheists." When Umayr feared that they would kill him instead of her killer, he went to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Did you kill your sister?" He said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Why?" He said, "Because she used to harm me for your sake." The Prophet ﷺ sent for her sons and asked them. They named someone other than her killer, so the Prophet ﷺ informed them about him and he confessed to the killing. They said, "We hear and obey."

[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ on the day of Khaybar while I was a slave. So I said, "Give me something." And he gave me a sword and said, "Take hold of it." So I took hold of it and it fell on the ground. Then he gave me from the spoils of war.

[Machine] Narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sent with prophethood, and I do not know of anyone from the Arabs who had more hatred or dislike for him than me. Until I came to the Romans and accepted their religion. When I learned about the good manners they called to and the people who gathered around it, I traveled until I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Suhaib, Bilal, and Salman were with him. He said, 'O Adi bin Hatim, accept Islam and you will be safe.' I said, 'My brother, my brother,' and then I dismounted and approached him, and I pressed my knees to his knees. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is Islam?' He said, 'To believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and to believe in predestination, its good and its evil, its sweetness and its bitterness.' O Adi bin Hatim, the Hour will not come until the treasures of Khosrow and Caesar are opened. O Adi bin Hatim, the Hour will not come until the false ones from the tribe of Qahtan come, and that will be when Kufa is no more. Until then, you will circumambulate this Ka'bah without any fear. O Adi bin Hatim, the Hour will not come until the money bags revolve, and you will revolve with them, but you will not find anyone who will accept them, so you will strike them against the ground and say, 'I wish you had not existed, I wish you were just dust.'"

[Machine] I heard my father say, "Adi ibn Hatim Al-Ta'i was known as Abu Tarif and he passed away in Al-Kufa during the time of Al-Mukhtar in the year sixty-eight."
[Machine] I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the preying animal (dog-like creature)? He said, "If it attacks with its fangs, then eat it. If it attacks with its claws, then kill it, as it is a rabid animal, so do not eat it." I said, "I send my dog to hunt and it eats." He said, "If you send your dog and mention the name of Allah, then eat it." I said, "What if it eats before I do?" He said, "Do not eat it, as it has reserved (the prey) for itself and not for you." I said, "I send my dog and find another dog with it." He said, "Do not eat it, as you have named it for your dog and not for the other one." And the wording is from the hadith of Sulaiman ibn Harb.

I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I let loose my hound after a game and mention Allah's Name on sending it." The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you let loose your hound after a game and you mention Allah's Name on sending it and the hound catches and kills the game and eats of it, then you should not eat of it, for it has killed it for itself." I said, "Sometimes when I send my hound after a game, I find another hound along with it and I do not know which of them has caught the game." He said, "You must not eat of it because you have not mentioned, the Name of Allah except on sending your own hound, and you did not mention it on the other hound." Then I asked him about the game hunted with a Mi'rad (i.e. a sharp edged piece of wood or a piece of wood provided with a sharp piece of iron used for hunting). He said, "If the game is killed with its sharp edge, you can eat of it, but if it is killed by its broad side (shaft), you cannot eat of it, for then it is like an animal beaten to death with a piece of wood." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5486)

[Machine] I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunting with the mi'rad. He said, "Whatever you strike with its blade, then eat it, and whatever you strike with its handle, then it is a piercing blow." I asked him about hunting with a dog. He said, "Whatever it catches for you, then eat it, for the taking of a dog is considered its share (zakat), and if you find your dog with another dog and you assume that it has taken it with it and killed it, then do not eat it, for you have only mentioned the name of Allah upon your dog and you have not mentioned it upon the other dog."

So, eat from what they catch for you. If they kill but do not eat, then eat it. And if they eat from it, then do not eat it." I asked, "What if my dogs mingle with other dogs? I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what if it mingles with other dogs?" He said, "It should not eat except what Allah's name has been mentioned over." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what about the game that we throw?" He said, "Anything that you catch and mention the name of Allah over." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what about hunting with arrows?" He said, "Do not eat from the blunt arrows except that you have mentioned (the name of Allah) over."

Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: When you set of your trained dogs having recited the name of Allah, then eat what these (hounds) have caught for you, even if it (the game) is killed, provided (the hunting dog) has not eaten (any part of the game). If it has eaten (the game), then you don't eat it as I fear that it might have caught for its own self. And do not eat it if other dogs have joined your trained dogs. (Using translation from Muslim 1929b)
[Machine] He asked the Prophet ﷺ about hunting. He said, "When you send your dog, say Bismillah (in the name of Allah). If you catch it [the prey] and it has been killed but not eaten, then eat from it. For verily, it has restrained for you. And if you catch it [the prey] and it has been killed and eaten from, then do not eat from it, for verily it has restrained for itself. And if your dog has mingled with another dog and killed [the prey] but not eaten from it, then do not eat from it. For verily, you have only named [the name of Allah] upon your dog and not upon the other [dog]. And if you throw your arrow and mention the name of Allah, and then you find it has fallen into water and died, do not eat it. For verily, you do not know whether the water killed it or your arrow. And if you find it after a night or two and do not see any other trace in it except your arrow, then if you wish, you may eat it.
[Machine] To the messenger of Allah, when you send your dog, remember the name of Allah. If it catches prey for you and you find it alive, then slaughter it. But if you find it dead, already killed by something else, then you may eat it. And if you find other dogs with it, do not eat, for you do not know which one killed it. And if you throw your arrows and remember the name of Allah upon them, and it catches prey for you and you find it alive, then you may eat it. But if it catches prey and disappears from your sight for a day, and you find only the trace of your arrow, then you may eat it if you wish. But if you find it drowning in water, then do not eat it.
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, my land is hunting land." He said, "If you send your trained dog and you name it, whatever it catches is for you to eat. But if it kills, then it is for the dog to eat and you should not eat from it, for it has caught it for itself. But if you send your dog and you do not name it, and it mingles with other dogs that are not named, then do not eat from it, for you do not know which one of them killed it." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, should I throw my arrow and the game goes away from me tonight?" He said, "If you find your arrow on it and do not find another arrow on it, then eat it."
[Machine] When I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunting dogs, he did not know what to say until the verse was revealed: "And whatever you have trained of hunting animals to catch for you – train them upon what Allah has taught you."
لَمَّا سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَيْدِ الْكِلَابِ لَمْ يَدْرِ مَا يَقُولُ لِي حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ {وَمَا عَلَّمْتُمْ مِنَ الْجَوَارِحِ مُكَلِّبِينَ تُعَلِّمُونَهُنَّ مِمَّا عَلَّمَكُمُ اللهُ}
[Machine] We asked the Prophet ﷺ, and I said, "Shall I send my dog and take another dog with me so that I don't know which one took the game?" He said, "Do not do that, for you mentioned the name of your dog and did not mention the name of the other one."
