"أنْ تُطعِمَهَا إِذَا طَعمْتَ، وَتَكْسُوَهَا إِذَا اكْتَسَيْتَ، وَلَا تَضْربَ الْوَجْهَ، وَلَا تُقبِّح، وَلَا تَهْجُر إِلَّا فِى البَيْتِ" .

He replied: That you should give her food when you eat, clothe her when you clothe yourself, do not strike her on the face, do not revile her or separate yourself from her except in the house. Abu Dawud said: The meaning of "do not revile her" is, as you say: "May Allah revile you".

[Machine] He asked the Prophet ﷺ , "What are the rights of my wife upon me?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Feed her when you eat, clothe her when you dress, and do not hit her in the face or abandon her except within the house."

I said: Messenger of Allah, how should we approach our wives and how should we leave them? He replied: Approach your tilth when or how you will, give her (your wife) food when you take food, clothe when you clothe yourself, do not revile her face, and do not beat her. Abu Dawud said: The version of Shu'bah has: That you give her food when you have food yourself, and that you clothe her when you clothe yourself. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2143)
