I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Keeping watch for a day and a night is better (in point of reward) than fasting for a whole month and standing in prayer every night. If a person dies (while, performing this duty), his (meritorious) activity will continue and he will go on receiving his reward for it perpetually and will be saved from the torture of the grave.

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ خَيْرٌ مِنْ صِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ وَإِنْ مَاتَ جَرَى عَلَيْهِ عَمَلُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَعْمَلُهُ وَأُجْرِيَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقُهُ وَأَمِنَ الْفَتَّانَ

The Prophet ﷺ said: Everyone who dies will have fully complete his action, except one who is on the frontier (in Allah's path), for his deeds will be made to go on increasing till the Day of Resurrection, and he will be safe from the trial in the grave.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ كُلُّ الْمَيِّتِ يُخْتَمُ عَلَى عَمَلِهِ إِلاَّ الْمُرَابِطَ فَإِنَّهُ يَنْمُو لَهُ عَمَلُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَيُؤَمَّنُ مِنْ فَتَّانِ الْقَبْرِ

That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The deeds of everyone who dies are sealed. Except for the one who dies guarding the frontier from the enemy, in the cause of Allah. For indeed his actions are increased for him until the Day of Judgement, and he is secure from the tribulation of the grave." And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "The Mujahid is one who strives against his own soul."

أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ كُلُّ مَيِّتٍ يُخْتَمُ عَلَى عَمَلِهِ إِلاَّ الَّذِي مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُ يُنْمَى لَهُ عَمَلُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَيَأْمَنُ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْقَبْرِ وَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الْمُجَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ

"I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Whoever guards Ribat (the frontier) in the cause of Allah for one day and one night, he will have (a reward) like that of fasting and praying Qiyam for a month. If he dies he will continue to receive reward for what he did, and he will be kept safe from Al-Fattan, and he will be given provision.'"

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ رَابَطَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ يَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً كَانَتْ لَهُ كَصِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ فَإِنْ مَاتَ جَرَى عَلَيْهِ عَمَلُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَعْمَلُ وَأَمِنَ الْفَتَّانَ وَأُجْرِيَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقُهُ

“Whoever dies being prepared in the cause of Allah, will be given continuously the reward for the good deeds that he used to do, and he will be rewarded with provision, and he will be kept safe from Fattan,* and Allah will raise him on the Day of Resurrection free of fright.”

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَجْرَى عَلَيْهِ أَجْرَ عَمَلِهِ الصَّالِحِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَعْمَلُ وَأَجْرَى عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ وَأَمِنَ مِنَ الْفَتَّانِ وَبَعَثَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ آمِنًا مِنَ الْفَزَعِ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Every deceased person is sealed upon his actions, except for the one who is stationed in the path of Allah, for his actions continue to be recorded for him until he is resurrected."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «كُلُّ مَيِّتٍ يُخْتَمُ عَلَى عَمَلِهِ إِلَّا الْمُرَابِطَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُ يُجْرَى لَهُ عَمَلُهُ حَتَّى يُبْعَثَ»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Every deceased person's deeds are sealed, except for those who are on guard in the way of Allah, for their reward for their deeds continues until they are resurrected." Qutaybah narrated that he said about this hadith, "And they are protected from the punishment in the grave."

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever dies while stationed in the way of Allah, will have his reward granted to him."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ أُجْرِيَ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرُهُ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Every dead person's deeds are sealed except for the one who is in the path of Allah, for his actions will continue to be rewarded until Allah resurrects him."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ كُلُّ مَيِّتٍ يُخْتَمُ عَلَى عَمَلِهِ إِلَّا الْمُرَابِطَ قَالَ يَحْيَى فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَإِنَّهُ يُجْرِي عَلَيْهِ أَجْرُ عَمَلِهِ حَتَّى يَبْعَثَهُ اللهُ

[AI] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The reward of spending a day and night in the cause of Allah is like the reward of fasting and praying for a month. If a person dies in this state, they will continue to receive the reward of being steadfast until they are resurrected and protected from temptation."

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ كَصِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ إِنْ مَاتَ جَرَى عَلَيْهِ أَجْرُ الْمُرَابِطِ حَتَّى يُبْعَثَ وَيُؤْمَنَ الْفَتَّانَ

"Whoever guards Ribat (the frontier) for one day and one night, will be given a reward like that for fasting and praying Qiyam for a month, and whoever dies at Ribat (guarding the frontier) will be rewarded, and he will be given provision, and he will be kept safe from Al-Fattan." [1] [1] According to As-Sindi, the preferred pronunciation is Al-Fattan, plural of Fatan refering to Al-Munkar and An-Nakir, while Al-Fattan would refer to Ash-Shaitan or the like, among the punishment of the grave, or, the angels of chastisement. أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ رَابَطَ يَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُ صِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ وَمَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا جَرَى لَهُ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ الْأَجْرِ وَأَجْرَى عَلَيْهِ الرِّزْقَ وَأُومِنَ مِنَ الْفَتَّانَ»

That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The deeds of everyone who dies are sealed. Except for the one who dies guarding the frontier from the enemy, in the cause of Allah. For indeed his actions are increased for him until the Day of Judgement, and he is secure from the tribulation of the grave." And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "The Mujahid is one who strives against his own soul." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1621)

أَنَّ عَمْرَوَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «كُلُّ مَيِّتٍ يُخْتَمُ عَلَى عَمَلِهِ إِلَّا الَّذِي مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُ يَنْمُو لَهُ عَمَلُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَيَأْمَنُ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ» قَالَ وَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «الْمُ جَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ لِلَّهِ ﷻ»

[AI] The translation of the Arabic phrase is: "He heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'Whoever dies while defending in the cause of Allah, believes in the punishment of the grave, and his rewards will continue until the Day of Resurrection.'"

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أُومِنَ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ وَنَمَا لَهُ أَجْرُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ»

قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الْفَارِسِيُّ يَعْنِي سَلْمَانَ ؓ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ كَصِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ وَمَنْ يَعْنِي مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا جَرَى عَلَيْهِ أَجْرُ الْمُرَابِطِ حَتَّى يُبْعَثَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَأَمِنَ مِنَ الْفَتَّانِ وَيُقْطَعُ لَهُ رِزْقُهُ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ كُلُّ مَيِّتٍ يُخْتَمُ عَلَى عَمَلِهِ إِلَّا الْمُرَابِطَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُ يُنْمَى لَهُ عَمَلُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَيُؤَمَّنُ مِنْ فَتَّانِ الْقَبْرِ

[AI] That Salman passed by him while he was stationed in the land of Fars and said, "Shall I inform you of something that will be of assistance to you in guarding your post?" He replied, "Yes." He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Guarding a post for one day in the cause of Allah is better than fasting and praying for a month.'"

أَنَّ سَلْمَانَ مَرَّ بِهِ وَهُوَ مُرَابِطٌ بِأَرْضِ فَارِسَ فَقَالَ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِأَمْرٍ يَكُونُ لَكَ عَوْنًا عَلَى رِباطِكَ؟ قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ صِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ»

[AI] "Shall I not guide you to something that will be of great benefit to you?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A day spent in the way of Allah is better than fasting and praying all night for a month. And whoever dies while actively engaged in the cause of Allah, his deeds will continue to be rewarded, and he will be protected from the trials of the grave."

لَهُ أَلَا أُرَغِّبَنَّكَ فِيمَا أَنْتَ فِيهِ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ صِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ وَمَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ جَرَى لَهُ عَمَلُهُ أَوْ أَعْمَالُهُ وَوُقِيَ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The devotion of one day and one night is better than fasting for a whole month and praying during that month. And whoever dies while defending the cause of Allah will receive the same reward, and his sustenance will continue, and he will be protected from the punishment of the grave."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ صِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ وَمَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ جَرَى عَلَيْهِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ فِي الثَّوَابِ وَأُجْرِيَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقُهُ وَأُومِنَ الْفَتَّانَ»

[AI] He saw Salman Al-Farisi while he was guarding the coast of Homs. He asked, "What brings you here?" Salman replied, "I am guarding." Salman said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'A day guarding for the sake of Allah is equivalent to fasting and praying for a month. And whoever dies while guarding, his deeds will continue and he will be protected from the trials, and he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment as a martyr.'"

أَنَّهُ رَأَى سَلْمَانَ الْفَارِسِيَّ وَهُوَ مُرَابِطٌ بِسَاحِلِ حِمْصٍ فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ عَلَى هَذَا؟ قَالَ مُرَابِطٌ قَالَ سَلْمَانُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ كَصِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ وَمَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا جَرَى عَلَيْهِ عَمَلُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَعْمَلُ وَأُومِنَ الْفَتَّانَ وَيُبْعَثُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شَهِيدًا»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever dies while guarding in the way of Allah, Allah will protect him from the trials of the grave."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ أَمَّنَهُ اللهُ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْقَبْرِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every deceased person, when he dies, his actions are sealed except for the one who is on the frontier in the cause of Allah, for his actions will continue until he is resurrected."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «كُلُّ مَيِّتٍ إِذَا مَاتَ خُتِمَ عَلَى عَمَلِهِ إلَّا الْمُرَابِطَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَإِنَّهُ يَجْرِي عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى يُبْعَثَ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every action of a person is cut off after his death except for the one who is stationed in the way of Allah, for his deeds will continue to grow and his sustenance will continue to be provided for him until the Day of Judgment."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «كُلُّ عَمَلٍ مُنْقَطِعٌ عَنْ صَاحِبِهِ إِذَا مَاتَ إِلَّا الْمُرَابِطُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَإِنَّهُ يُنْمَى لَهُ عَمَلُهُ وَيُجْرَى عَلَيْهِ رِزْقُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ»

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنْ رَابَطَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ يَوْمًا أَوْ لَيْلَةً كَانَتْ لَهُ كَصِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ فَإِنْ مَاتَ جَرَى عَلَيْهِ عَمَلُهُ الَّذِي يَعْمَلُ وَأَمِنَ الْفَتَّانَ وَأُجْرِيَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقُهُ»

"رباطُ يوْمٍ في سبيل اللَّه خَيْرٌ منْ صيام شَهْرٍ وقيامه، ومنْ مات مُرابطًا في سبيلِ اللَّه، كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُ مُجاهدٍ إِلى يوْمِ الْقيامة".

"رباط يوْمٍ ولَيْلَةٍ خَيْرٌ منْ صيامِ شَهْرٍ وقيامه، وَإِنْ مات مُرابطًا جرى علَيْه عملُهُ الَّذى كَانَ يعْملُهُ، وأُجرى علَيْه رزْقُهُ وأَمنَ منَ الفتن".

"رباط يوْمٍ في سبيلِ اللَّه خيْرٌ منْ قيامِ شهْرٍ وصيامه، ومن مات مُرابطًا في سبيلِ اللَّه، جرى لَهُ أَجْرُ المجاهد إِلى يوم القيامة".

"رباطُ يوْمٍ فِى سبيل اللَّهِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ صِيام شَهْرٍ وقِيامِهِ، ومنْ مات فِيهِ وُقِى فِتْنةَ الْقَبْر، ونُمِّى لَهُ عملُهُ إِلى يوْم القِيامةِ".

"رباطُ يوْمٍ ولَيْلَة فِى سبيلِ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ صِيامِ شَهْرٍ وقِيامِهِ، فإِن مات جرى علَيْهِ أَجْرُ الرابطِ ومُؤْمَّن مِنَ الفَتَّان، ويُقْطَعُ لَهُ رزْقٌ مِن الجنَّةِ".

"رباطُ يوْمٍ فِى سبيل اللَّهِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ صِيامَ شَهْرٍ وقِيامِهِ، ومنْ مات مُرابطًا فِى سِبيلِ اللَّهِ أُجيرِ مِنْ فِتنةِ القَبْر، ويجْرِى لَهُ صالِحُ ما كان يعْملُ إِلى يوْمِ القِيامةِ".

"رِباطُ يوْمٍ فِى سبيلِ اللَّهِ كَصِيامِ شَهْرٍ وقِيامِهِ، ومْنِ ماتَ مُرَابِطًا جَرَى عَلَيْهِ عَمَلُهُ الَّذِى كَانَ يَعْمَلُ، وَأُومِنَ الفَتَّانَ، وَيُبْعَثُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ شَهِيدًا".

"كُلُّ مَيِّتٍ يُخْتَمُ عَلَى عَمَله إلا الَّذِي مَاتَ مُرَابطًا فِي سَبيلِ الله؛ فَإِنَّهُ يَنْمُو لَهُ عَمَلُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ، وَيُؤَمَّنُ مِنْ فَتَّانِ الْقَبْرِ".

"كل عَمَلٍ منْقَطِع عَنْ صَاحِبهِ إِذا مَاتَ إِلا المُرابِطَ فِي سَبِيلِ الله فَإِنَّهُ يُنمى لَهُ عَمَلة وَيجْرَى عَلَيهِ رِزقُهُ إلَى يَوْم القِيَامَةِ".

"كُلُّ ميتٍ إِذَا مَاتَ خُتِمَ عَلَى عَمَلِه، إلا المُرَابِطَ فِي سَبِيلِ الله، فَإِنَّهُ يُجْرَى عَلَيهِ حَتَّى يبعَثَ".

"مَنْ رَابَطَ يَوْمًا وَلَيلَةً في سَبِيلِ اللهِ كَانَ لَهُ كَأَجْرِ صِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ، [وَمَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا جَرَى لَهُ مثلُ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الأَجْرِ] وَأُجْرِي عَلَيهِ الرِّزْق وَأَمِنَ الفَتَّان".

"منْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا في سَبِيلِ اللهِ آمَنَهُ اللهُ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْقَبْرِ".

"مَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا في سَبِيلِ اللهِ أُومِنَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَنُمِّي لَهُ أَجْرُهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ".

"مَنْ مَاتَ مُرابِطًا في سَبِيل الله، أَجْرَى الله عَلَيه أَجْرَ عَمَلهِ الصَّالِحِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَعْمَلُهُ، وَأَجْرَى عَلَيهِ رِزْقَهُ وأَمِنَ مِنَ الفَتَّانِ، وَبَعثَهُ الله يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ آَمِنًا مِنَ الْفَزَعَ".
