I heard the Prophet ﷺ say (while offering prayer on a dead body): O Allah! forgive him, have mercy upon him. Give him peace and absolve him. Receive him with honour and make his grave spacious. Wash him with water, snow and hail, cleanse him from faults as is cleaned a white garment from impurity. Requite him with an abode more excellent than his abode, with a family better than his family, and with a mate better than his mate, and save him from the trial of the grave and torment of Hell. 'Auf b. Malik said: I earnestly desired that I were the dead person to receive the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as this dead body had (received).  

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَصَلَّى عَلَى جَنَازَةٍ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ وَعَافِهِ وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ وَاغْسِلْهُ بِمَاءٍ وَثَلْجٍ وَبَرَدٍ وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ وَأَهْلاً خَيْرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَزَوْجًا خَيْرًا مِنْ زَوْجِهِ وَقِهِ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابَ النَّارِ قَالَ عَوْفٌ فَتَمَنَّيْتُ أَنْ لَوْ كُنْتُ أَنَا الْمَيِّتَ لِدُعَاءِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى ذَلِكَ الْمَيِّتِ  

"I heard the Messenger of Allah offer the funeral prayer and say: Allahumma ighfir lahu warhamhu waʿfu ʿanhu wa ʿafihi, wa akrim nuzulahu wa wassiʿ mudkhalahu waghsilhu bi-ma'in wa thaljin wa-barad, wa naqqihi min al-khataya kama yunaqqa ath-thawb al-abyad min ad-danas. Wa abdilhu daran khairan min darihi wa ahlan khayran min ahlihi, wa zawjan khayran min zawjihi, wa qihi 'adhab al-qabri wa 'adhab an-nar (O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, forgive him and keep him safe and sound, honor the place where he settles and make his entrance wide; wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him of his sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Give him a house better than his house and a family better than his family and a spouse better than his spouse. Protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of Hell-fire)." 'Awf said: "I wished that I was that deceased person because of the supplication that the Messenger of Allah said for that deceased person."

"I heard 'Awf bin Malik say: "I heard the Messenger of Allah offering the funeral prayer for one who had died, and I heard him say in his supplication: Allahummaghfir lahu warhamhu wa 'afihi, wa a'fu 'anhu, wa akrim nuzulahu wa wassi' mudkhalahu waghsilhu bil-ma wath-thalji wal-barad, wa naqqihi min al-khataya kama naqqaita-thawb al-abyad min ad-danas. Wa abdilhu daran khairan min darihi, wa ahlan khayran min ahlihi, wa zawjan khayran min zawjihi. Wa adkhilahul-jannah wa najjihi min an-nar" (O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and sound and forgive him, honor the place where he settles and make his entrance wide; wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him of his sin as you cleanse a white garment of dirt. O Allah, give him a house better than his house and a family better than his family and a wife better than his wife, and admit him to Paradise and save him from Hellfire)." Or he said: "Wa a'idhhu min 'adhab al-qabr (And protect him from the torment of the grave.)"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed for a deceased person and said, "By his prayer, I understood that he was saying, 'O Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him, wash him with water and snow, and purify him from sins as you purify the white garment from dirt.'"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed over a funeral, and I memorized his supplication in which he said, "O Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him good health, pardon him, honor his abode, enlarge his entrance, cleanse him with water, snow, and hail, purify him from sins as a white garment is cleansed from dirt, replace his home with a better one, his family with a better one, and his spouse with a better one. Enter him into paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the fire." Until I wished that I was that deceased person.

"اللَّهُمَّ اغْفرْ له وارْحَمْهُ وعَافهِ واعْفُ عنه وأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ ووسِّعْ مُدْخَلَه واغسِله بالماءِ والثلج والبَردِ، ونقِّه من الخطايا كما نقَّيتَ الثَوبَ الأبيضَ مِنَ الدنَس وأبْدله دارًا خيرًا مِنْ دارِه، وأهلًا خيرًا من أهله وزوجًا خيرًا من زوجه وأدْخله الجنَّةَ وأعِذْه من عذاب القبر، وفي لفظ وقِهِ فتنةَ القبرْ وعذابَ النار" .  

"عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ، وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ، وَأكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ، وَأَوسعْ مُدْخَلَهُ، وَاغْسِلهُ بِالْمَاءِ، وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ وَنَقَّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ، اللَّهُمَّ أَبْدِلْهُ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ، وَزَوْجًا خَيْرًا مِنْ زَوْجِهِ، وَأَدْخِلْهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَنَجِّهِ مِنَ النَّارِ، أَوْ قَالَ: قِهِ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابَ النَّارِ، حَتَّى تَمَنَّيْتُ أَنْ أَكوُنَ أَنَا الْمَيِّتَ؛ لِدُعَاءِ رَسُولِ الله".
