muslim:715e – ʿUbaydullāh b. Muʿādh from my father > Shuʿbah > Muḥārib > Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh > Tazawwajt Āmraʾah

I married a woman, whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: Have you married? I said: Yes. He said: Is it a virgin or a previously married one (widow or divorced)? I said: With a previously married one, whereupon he said: Where had you been (away) from the amusements of virgins? Shu'ba said: I made a mention of it to 'Amr b. Dinar and he said: I too heard from Jabir making mention of that (that Allah's Apostle) said: Why didn't you marry a girl, so that you might sport with her and she might sport with you?  

مسلم:٧١٥e – حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَارِبٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ تَزَوَّجْتُ امْرَأَةً فَقَالَ

لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَلْ تَزَوَّجْتَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَبِكْرًا أَمْ ثَيِّبًا قُلْتُ ثَيِّبًا قَالَ فَأَيْنَ أَنْتَ مِنَ الْعَذَارَى وَلِعَابِهَا قَالَ شُعْبَةُ فَذَكَرْتُهُ لِعَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ فَقَالَ قَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ جَابِرٍ وَإِنَّمَا قَالَ فَهَلاَّ جَارِيَةً تُلاَعِبُهَا وَتُلاَعِبُكَ

When I got married, Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "What type of lady have you married?" I replied, "I have married a matron' He said, "Why, don't you have a liking for the virgins and for fondling them?" Jabir also said: Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Why didn't you marry a young girl so that you might play with her and she with you?'  

البخاري:٥٠٨٠ – حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَارِبٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ؓ يَقُولُ تَزَوَّجْتُ فَقَالَ

لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا تَزَوَّجْتَ فَقُلْتُ تَزَوَّجْتُ ثَيِّبًا فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ وَلِلْعَذَارَى وَلِعَابِهَا فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ فَقَالَ عَمْرٌو سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَلاَّ جَارِيَةً تُلاَعِبُهَا وَتُلاَعِبُكَ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to me, "Have you gotten married?" I said, "I have married Thayyibah." He said, "What about the virgins and their playfulness?" Shu'bah related this to 'Amr ibn Dinar, who said, "I heard Jabir say that the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Shouldn't you marry a girl whom you can engage in playful banter with?' Both Aswad ibn 'Aamir, meaning 'eccentric in meaning,' narrated this to us."  

أحمد:١٥١٩٣ – حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ قَالَ تَزَوَّجْتُ فَقَالَ

لِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا تَزَوَّجْتَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ تَزَوَّجْتُ ثَيِّبًا فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ وَلِلْعَذَارَى وَلِعَابِهَا قَالَ شُعْبَةُ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا يَقُولُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَفَهَلَّا جَارِيَةً تُلَاعِبُهَا وَتُلَاعِبُكَ حَدَّثَنَاهُمَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ يَعْنِي شَاذَانَ الْمَعْنَى
