Some people from ʿUraina tribe came to Medina and its climate did not suit them, so Messenger of Allah ﷺ allowed them to go to the herd of camels (given as Zakat) and they drank their milk and urine (as medicine) but they killed the shepherd and drove away all the camels. So Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent (men) in their pursuit to catch them, and they were brought, and he had their hands and feet cut, and their eyes were branded with heated pieces of iron and they were left in the Harra (a stony place at Medina) biting the stones. (See Hadith No. 234, Vol. 1)

أَنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ اجْتَوَوُا الْمَدِينَةَ فَرَخَّصَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَأْتُوا إِبِلَ الصَّدَقَةِ فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَقَتَلُوا الرَّاعِيَ وَاسْتَاقُوا الذَّوْدَ فَأَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ بِالْحَرَّةِ يَعَضُّونَ الْحِجَارَةَ

Some people from the tribes of ʿUkl and ʿUraina came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and embraced Islam and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! We are owners of livestock and have never been farmers," and they found the climate of Medina unsuitable for them. So Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that they be given some camels and a shepherd, and ordered them to go out with those camels and drink their milk and urine. So they set out, but when they reached a place called Al-Harra, they reverted to disbelief after their conversion to Islam, killed the shepherd and drove away the camels. When this news reached the Prophet ﷺ he sent in their pursuit (and they were caught and brought). The Prophet ﷺ ordered that their eyes be branded with heated iron bars and their hands be cut off, and they were left at Al-Harra till they died in that state.

أَنَّ نَاسًا أَوْ رِجَالاً مِنْ عُكْلٍ وَعُرَيْنَةَ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَتَكَلَّمُوا بِالإِسْلاَمِ وَقَالُوا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّا كُنَّا أَهْلَ ضَرْعٍ وَلَمْ نَكُنْ أَهْلَ رِيفٍ وَاسْتَوْخَمُوا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِذَوْدٍ وَبِرَاعٍ وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا فِيهِ فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَانْطَلَقُوا حَتَّى كَانُوا نَاحِيَةَ الْحَرَّةِ كَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلاَمِهِمْ وَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاسْتَاقُوا الذَّوْدَ فَبَلَغَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَبَعَثَ الطَّلَبَ فِي آثَارِهِمْ وَأَمَرَ بِهِمْ فَسَمَرُوا أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَقَطَعُوا أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَتُرِكُوا فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا عَلَى حَالِهِمْ

If you so like, you may go to the camels of Sadaqa and drink their milk and urine. They did so and were all right. They then fell upon the shepherds and killed them and turned apostates from Islam and drove off the camels of the Prophet ﷺ. This news reached Allah's Apostle ﷺ and he sent (people) on their track and they were (brought) and handed over to him. He (the Holy Prophet) got their hands cut off, and their feet, and put out their eyes, and threw them on the stony ground until they died.

أَنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ فَاجْتَوَوْهَا فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ أَنْ تَخْرُجُوا إِلَى إِبِلِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَتَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَفَعَلُوا فَصَحُّوا ثُمَّ مَالُوا عَلَى الرِّعَاءِ فَقَتَلُوهُمْ وَارْتَدُّوا عَنِ الإِسْلاَمِ وَسَاقُوا ذَوْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَبَعَثَ فِي أَثْرِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي الْحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا

'O Messenger of Allah, we are nomads who follows the herds, not farmers and growers, and the climate of Al-Madinah does not suit us.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺtold them to go out to a flock of female camels and drink their milk and urine. When they recovered - and they were in the vicinity of Al-Harrah - they apostatized after having become Muslim, killed the camel-herder of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and drove the camels away. News of that reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he sent people after them. They were brought back, their eyes were smoldered with heated nails, their hands and feet cut off, then they were left in Al-Harrah in that state until they died."

أَنَّ أُنَاسًا أَوْ رِجَالاً مِنْ عُكْلٍ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَتَكَلَّمُوا بِالإِسْلاَمِ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا أَهْلُ ضَرْعٍ وَلَمْ نَكُنْ أَهْلَ رِيفٍ وَاسْتَوْخَمُوا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِذَوْدٍ وَرَاعٍ وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا فِيهَا فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَلَمَّا صَحُّوا وَكَانُوا بِنَاحِيَةِ الْحَرَّةِ كَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلاَمِهِمْ وَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَاسْتَاقُوا الذَّوْدَ فَبَلَغَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَبَعَثَ الطَّلَبَ فِي آثَارِهْمِ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَسَمَرُوا أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَقَطَّعُوا أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ ثُمَّ تُرِكُوا فِي الْحَرَّةِ عَلَى حَالِهِمْ حَتَّى مَاتُوا

"Some people from 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to them: 'Why don't you go out to our camels and stay with them and drink their milk and urine?' So they did that, and when they recovered, they went to the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and killed him, reverted to being disbelievers, and drove off the camels of the Prophet [SAW]. He sent (men) after them, and they were brought to him. He had their hands and feet cut off, and their eyes gouged out."

قَدِمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَوْ خَرَجْتُمْ إِلَى ذَوْدِنَا فَكُنْتُمْ فِيهَا فَشَرِبْتُمْ مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَفَعَلُوا فَلَمَّا صَحُّوا قَامُوا إِلَى رَاعِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَتَلُوهُ وَرَجَعُوا كُفَّارًا وَاسْتَاقُوا ذَوْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَرْسَلَ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ

"Some people from 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW], but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to them: 'Why don't you go out to our camels and drink their milk?'" - (one of the narrators) Qatadah said: 'And their urine.' - "So they went out to the camels of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], but when they recovered they killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], who was a believer, and drove off the camels of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], and left as those at war. He sent (men) after them and they were caught. Then he had their hands and feet cut off, and branded their eyes."

قَدِمَ نَاسٌ مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاجْتَوَوُا الْمَدِينَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَوْ خَرَجْتُمْ إِلَى ذَوْدِنَا فَشَرِبْتُمْ مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا قَالَ وَقَالَ قَتَادَةُ وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَخَرَجُوا إِلَى ذَوْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا صَحُّوا كَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلاَمِهِمْ وَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُؤْمِنًا وَاسْتَاقُوا ذَوْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَانْطَلَقُوا مُحَارِبِينَ فَأَرْسَلَ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَأُخِذُوا فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَّرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ

"Some people from 'Uraynah became Muslim, but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. Some people or some men from 'Ukl, or 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we are herdsmen, not tillers," the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. some people from (the tribe of) ʿUrainah came to us (to Al-Madinah) during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but they did not want to stay in Al-Madinah because the climate did not suit them. He said: “Go out to the camels which belong to us, and drink their milk and urine.” So they did that (and recovered), then they apostatized from Islam and killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and stole his camels. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent people after them, and they were brought back. Then he cut off their hands and feet, branded their eyes and left them in Harrah until they died.

أَنَّ أُنَاسًا مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ قَدِمُوا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاجْتَوَوُا الْمَدِينَةَ فَقَالَ لَوْ خَرَجْتُمْ إِلَى ذَوْدٍ لَنَا فَشَرِبْتُمْ مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَفَعَلُوا فَارْتَدُّوا عَنِ الإِسْلاَمِ وَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاسْتَاقُوا ذَوْدَهُ فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَجِيءَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ بِالْحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا

[Machine] A group of people from the tribe of 'Ukl and 'Uraynah came and spoke about Islam, so they went to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and informed him that they belonged to a bedouin tribe and not to a farming community. They complained about the fever in the city, so the Prophet ﷺ ordered them to drink camel milk and to follow a herd. He also commanded them to leave the city and to drink the milk and urine of their camels. They left and settled in the outskirts of the city, but they later apostatized and killed a shepherd of the Prophet ﷺ. They also stole the camels, and when the Prophet ﷺ was informed about their actions, he sent a group to pursue them. They were captured and had their eyes, hands, and feet mutilated. They were left in the outskirts of the city, gnawing at its rocks until they died. Qatadah mentioned that it was reported that this verse was revealed regarding them: "Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger..." (Quran 5:33)

أَنَّ نَفَرًا مِنْ عُكْلٍ وَعُرَيْنَةَ تَكَلَّمُوا بِالْإِسْلَامِ فَأَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ أَنَّهُمْ أَهْلُ ضَرْعٍ وَلَمْ يَكُونُوا أَهْلَ رِيفٍ وَشَكَوْا حُمَّى الْمَدِينَةِ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِذَوْدٍ وَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ بِرَاعٍ وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِفَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَانْطَلَقُوا فَكَانُوا فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْحَرَّةِ فَكَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلَامِهِمْ وَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَسَاقُوا الذَّوْدَ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَبَعَثَ الطَّلَبَ فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَسَمَرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَتُرِكُوا بِنَاحِيَةِ الْحَرَّةِ يَقْضَمُونَ حِجَارَتَهَا حَتَّى مَاتُوا قَالَ قَتَادَةُ فَبَلَغَنَا أَنَّ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ نَزَلَتْ فِيهِمْ {إِنَّمَا جَزَاءُ الَّذِينَ يُحَارِبُونَ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ} [المائدة 33]

أَنَّ رَهْطًا مِنْ عُكْلٍ وعُرَيْنَةَ أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا كُنَّا أَهْلَ ضَرْعٍ وَلَمْ نَكُنْ أَهْلَ رِيفٍ فَاسْتَوْخَمُوا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِذَوْدٍ وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا فِيهَا فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا ففعَلُوا فَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَاسْتَاقُوا الذَّوْدَ وَكَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلَامِهِمْ فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي الْحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا

A group of eighty people from 'Ukl came to the Prophet [SAW], but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them and they fell sick. They complained about that to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and he said: "Why don't you go out with our herdsmen and drink the milk and urine of the camels?" They said: "Yes (we will do that)." They went out and drank some of the (camels') milk and urine, and they recovered. Then they killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], so he sent (men after them) and they caught them and brought them back. He had their hands and feet cut off and branded their eyes, and left them in the sun to die. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4024)

أَنَّ نَفَرًا مِنْ عُكْلٍ ثَمَانِيَةً قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَبَايَعُوهُ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ فَاسْتَوْخَمُوا الْأَرْضَ فَسَقِمَتْ أَجْسَامُهُمْ فَشَكَوْا ذَلِكَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَخْرُجُونَ مَعَ رَاعِينَا فِي إِبِلِهِ فَتُصِيبُونَ مِنْ أَبْوَالِهَا وَأَلْبَانِهَا؟ فَخَرَجُوا فَشَرِبُوا مِنْ أَبْوَالِهَا وَأَلْبَانِهَا فَصَحُّوا فَقَتَلُوا الرَّاعِيَ وَاطَّرَدُوا النَّعَمَ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَرْسَلَ فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَأُدْرِكُوا فَجِيءَ بِهِمْ فَأَمَرَ بِهِمْ فَقُطِّعَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَرْجُلُهُمْ وَسُمِرَتْأَعْيُنُهُمْ ثُمَّ نُبِذُوا فِي الشَّمْسِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا

"Some people from 'Uraynah became Muslim, but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. [Machine] "Some people came to the city, so they besieged the city. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded them to have the camels and their herders, and he commanded them to drink their urine and milk. He said, 'So they killed the herder and expelled the camels.' The Prophet ﷺ sent after them to search for them, and they were brought to him. He cut off their hands and feet, gouged out their eyes, and threw them under the sun until they died."

أَنَّ نَاسًا أَتَوْا الْمَدِينَةَ فَاجْتَوَوْا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِإِبِلٍ وَرَاعِيهَا وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَبْوَالِهَا وَأَلْبَانِهَا قَالَ فَقَتَلُوا الرَّاعِيَ وَأَطْرَدُوا الْإِبِلَ فَبَعَثَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَجِيءَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَطَرَحَهُمْ فِي الشَّمْسِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا

"Some people from 'Uraynah became Muslim, but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to them: 'Why don't you go out to some camels of ours and drink their milk?'" - (one of the narrators) Humaid said: "And Qatadah said, narrating from Anas: 'And their urine.'" - "So they did that, and when they recovered they reverted to disbelief after their Islam, killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], who was a believer, drove off the camels of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], and fled as those at war. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] sent someone to bring them and they were caught. He had their hands and feet cut off and their eyes branded, then he left them in Al-Harrah until they died." أَسْلَمَ نَاسٌ مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ فَاجْتَوَوْا الْمَدِينَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَوْ خَرَجْتُمْ إِلَى ذَوْدٍ لَنَا فَشَرِبْتُمْ مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا قَالَ حُمَيْدٌ وَقَالَ قَتَادَةُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَفَعَلُوا فَلَمَّا صَحُّوا كَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلَامِهِمْ وَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مُؤْمِنًا أَوْ مُسْلِمًا وَسَاقُوا ذَوْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهَرَبُوا مُحَارِبِينَ فَأَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَأُخِذُوا فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي الْحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا

Some people or some men from 'Ukl, or 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we are herdsmen, not tillers," the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. So the Messenger of Allah [SAW] ordered that they be allocated some camels and a herdsman, and he told them to go out with them and drink their milk and urine. When they recovered and they were in the vicinity of Al-Harrah, they reverted to disbelief after their Islam, killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and drove off the camels. He sent (men) after them and they were brought, and he had their eyes gouged out, and their hands and feet cut off. Then he left them in Al-Harrah in that state until they died." Some people from 'Ukl came to the Prophet [SAW] but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. The Prophet [SAW] told them to go to the camels that had been given in Sadaqah and drink some of their milk and urine. They did that, then they killed their herdsman and drove off the camels. The Prophet [SAW] sent (men) after them, and they were brought to him. He had their hands and feet cut off, and their eyes gouged out, and he did not have (their wounds) cauterized, and he left them to die. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed: "The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4025)

A group of eighty people from 'Ukl came to the Prophet [SAW], but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them and they fell sick. They complained about that to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and he said: "Why don't you go out with our herdsmen and drink the milk and urine of the camels?" They said: "Yes (we will do that)." They went out and drank some of the (camels') milk and urine, and they recovered. Then they killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], so he sent (men after them) and they caught them and brought them back. Some people from the tribes of ʿUkl and ʿUraina came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and embraced Islam and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! We are owners of livestock and have never been farmers," and they found the climate of Medina unsuitable for them. So Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that they be given some camels and a shepherd, and ordered them to go out with those camels and drink their milk and urine. So they set out, but when they reached a place called Al-Harra, they reverted to disbelief after their conversion to Islam, killed the shepherd and drove away the camels. When this news reached the Prophet ﷺ he sent in their pursuit (and they were caught and brought). The Prophet ﷺ ordered that their eyes be branded with heated iron bars and their hands be cut off, and they were left at Al-Harra till they died in that state. (Using translation from Bukhārī 5727)

[Machine] An Urainah delegation came to the Prophet ﷺ, so they entered Medina. The Prophet ﷺ sent them for treatment, saying, "Drink from its milk and urine." They drank until they recovered and fattened. However, they killed the shepherd of the Prophet ﷺ, stole the camels, and renegaded. The Prophet ﷺ sent people after them, caught them, and amputated their hands and legs. He gouged out their eyes and left them in the desert.

أَنَّ وَفْدَ عُرَيْنَةَ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاجْتَوَوَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَبَعَثَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي لِقَاحِهِ فَقَالَ «اشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا» فَشَرِبُوا حَتَّى صَحُّوا وَسَمِنُوا فَقَتَلُوا رَاعِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاسْتَاقُوا الذَّوْدَ وَارْتَدُّوا «فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَجِيءَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي الرَّمْضَاءِ»

أَنَّ نَفَرًا مِنْ عُكْلٍ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَسْلَمُوا وَاجْتَوَوَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَمَرَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يَأْتُوا إِبِلَ الصَّدَقَةِ فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَبْوَالِهَا وَأَلْبَانِهَا فَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَهَا وَاسْتَاقُوهَا فَبَعَثَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ قَافِلَةً فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَلَمْ يَحْسِمْهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ حَتَّى مَاتُوا فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {إِنَّمَا جَزَاءُ الَّذِينَ يُحَارِبُونَ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ} [المائدة 33] الْآيَةَ

'O Messenger of Allah, we are nomads who follows the herds, not farmers and growers, and the climate of Al-Madinah does not suit us.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺtold them to go out to a flock of female camels and drink their milk and urine. When they recovered - and they were in the vicinity of Al-Harrah - they apostatized after having become Muslim, killed the camel-herder of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and drove the camels away. News of that reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he sent people after them. They were brought back, their eyes were smoldered with heated nails, their hands and feet cut off, then they were left in Al-Harrah in that state until they died." أَنَّ نَاسًا أَوْ رِجَالًا مِنْ عُكْلٍ وَعُرَيْنَةَ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَتَكَلَّمُوا بِالْإِسْلَامِ فَقَالُوا «يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا أَهْلُ ضَرْعٍ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَنَا رِيفٌ وَاسْتَوْخَمُوا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِذَوْدٍ وَرَاعٍ وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا فِيهَا فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ لَبَنِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَلَمَّا صَحُّوا وَكَانُوا بِنَاحِيَةِ الْحَرَّةِ كَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلَامِهِمْ وَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَاسْتَاقُوا الذَّوْدَ فَبَلَغَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَبَعَثَ فِي الطَّلَبِ فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَسَمَّرُوا أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَقَطَعُوا أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ ثُمَّ تَرَكَهُمْ فِي الْحَرَّةِ عَلَى حَالِهِمْ حَتَّى مَاتُوا»

"Some people from 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to them: 'Why don't you go out to our camels and stay with them and drink their milk and urine?' So they did that, and when they recovered, they went to the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and killed him, reverted to being disbelievers, and drove off the camels of the Prophet [SAW]. He sent (men) after them, and they were brought to him. He had their hands and feet cut off, and their eyes gouged out." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4029)

قَدِمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَاسٌ مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَوْ خَرَجْتُمْ إِلَى ذَوْدِنَا فَكُنْتُمْ فِيهَا فَشَرِبْتُمْ مِنَ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا» فَفَعَلُوا فَلَمَّا صَحُّوا قَامُوا إِلَى رَاعِي رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَتَلُوهُ وَرَجَعُوا كُفَّارًا وَاسْتَاقُوا ذَوْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَرْسَلَ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ

"Some people from 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW], but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to them: 'Why don't you go out to our camels and drink their milk?'" - (one of the narrators) Qatadah said: 'And their urine.' - "So they went out to the camels of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], but when they recovered they killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], who was a believer, and drove off the camels of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], and left as those at war. He sent (men) after them and they were caught. Then he had their hands and feet cut off, and branded their eyes." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4030)

If you so like, you may go to the camels of Sadaqa and drink their milk and urine. They did so and were all right. They then fell upon the shepherds and killed them and turned apostates from Islam and drove off the camels of the Prophet ﷺ. This news reached Allah's Apostle ﷺ and he sent (people) on their track and they were (brought) and handed over to him. He (the Holy Prophet) got their hands cut off, and their feet, and put out their eyes, and threw them on the stony ground until they died. (Using translation from Muslim 1671a)

أَنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَاجْتَوَوْهَا وَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ أَنْ تَخْرُجُوا إِلَى إِبِلِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَتَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَفْعَلُوا فَصَحُّوا ثُمَّ مَالُوا عَلَى الرِّعَاءِ فَقَتَلُوهُمْ وَارْتَدُّوا عَنِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَاسْتَاقُوا ذَوْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَبَعَثَ فِي أَثَرِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي الْحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ هُشَيْمٍ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ قَالَ لَا أَحْفَظُ اشْرَبُوا أَبْوَالَهَا

[Machine] A group of people from the tribes of Ukl and Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we are people from a harsh land and we were not people of cultivation, so we migrated to the city. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered for a milking camel and a herd of goats to be given to them, and ordered them to go out in the land and drink from their urine and milk their camels. So they set out until they reached Nahiyat al-Harrah, where they killed the shepherd of the Prophet ﷺ , stole the camels, and disbelieved after their conversion to Islam. The Prophet ﷺ sent a team to pursue them, and when they captured them, he ordered their hands and feet to be cut off, their eyes to be cauterized, and left them in Nahiyat al-Harrah until they died. Qatadah said, "It was mentioned to us that this verse was revealed concerning them, meaning, 'Indeed, the recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth to cause corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.' (Quran 5:33)" Qatadah also mentioned that it reached them that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to urge in his sermons after that for giving charity and forbidding adultery.

أَنَّ رَهْطًا مِنْ عُكْلٍ وَعُرَيْنَةَ أَتَوْا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا أُنَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ ضَرْعٍ وَلَمْ نَكُنْ أَهْلَ رِيفٍ فَاسْتَوْخَمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِذَوْدٍ وَزَادٍ وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا فِيهَا فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَبْوَالِهَا وَأَلْبَانِهَا فَانْطَلَقُوا حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْحَرَّةِ قَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَاسْتَاقُوا الذَّوْدَ وَكَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلَامِهِمْ فَبَعَثَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَأَمَرَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي نَاحِيَةِ الْحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا وَهُمْ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ فَذُكِرَ لَنَا أَنَّ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ نَزَلَتْ فِيهِمْ يَعْنِي {إِنَّمَا جَزَاءُ الَّذِينَ يُحَارِبُونَ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيَسْعَوْنَ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَسَادًا} [المائدة 33] الْآيَةَ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ وَبَلَغَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَحُثُّ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُثْلَةِ

" قَدِمَ نَاسٌ مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ المَدِينةَ فاجْتووْهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ أنْ تَخْرُجُوا إِلَى إِبِلِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَتَشْربُونَ (*) مِنْ أَبْوالِهَا وألبَانِهَا فَفَعَلُوا، واسْتَصْبَحُوا، فَمَالُوا عَلَى الرِّعَاءِ فَقَتلُوهُمْ واسْتَاقُوا ذَوْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَكفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلاَمِهِمْ فَبَعَثَ فِى آثَارِهِم فَأُتِىَ بِهِمْ فَقَطعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أعْيُنَهُمْ، وَتَركهُمْ بِالحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا".
