Some people from the tribe of ʿUkl came to the Prophet ﷺ and embraced Islam. The climate of Medina did not suit them, so the Prophet ﷺ ordered them to go to the (herd of milch) camels of charity and to drink, their milk and urine (as a medicine). They did so, and after they had recovered from their ailment (became healthy) they turned renegades (reverted from Islam) and killed the shepherd of the camels and took the camels away. The Prophet ﷺ sent (some people) in their pursuit and so they were (caught and) brought, and the Prophets ordered that their hands and legs should be cut off and that their eyes should be branded with heated pieces of iron, and that their cut hands and legs should not be cauterized, till they die.  

قَدِمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَفَرٌ مِنْ عُكْلٍ فَأَسْلَمُوا فَاجْتَوَوُا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَأْتُوا إِبِلَ الصَّدَقَةِ فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَبْوَالِهَا وَأَلْبَانِهَا فَفَعَلُوا فَصَحُّوا فَارْتَدُّوا وَقَتَلُوا رُعَاتَهَا وَاسْتَاقُوا فَبَعَثَ فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَحْسِمْهُمْ حَتَّى مَاتُوا  

If you so like, you may go to the camels of Sadaqa and drink their milk and urine. They did so and were all right. They then fell upon the shepherds and killed them and turned apostates from Islam and drove off the camels of the Prophet ﷺ. This news reached Allah's Apostle ﷺ and he sent (people) on their track and they were (brought) and handed over to him. He (the Holy Prophet) got their hands cut off, and their feet, and put out their eyes, and threw them on the stony ground until they died.  

أَنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ فَاجْتَوَوْهَا فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ أَنْ تَخْرُجُوا إِلَى إِبِلِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَتَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَفَعَلُوا فَصَحُّوا ثُمَّ مَالُوا عَلَى الرِّعَاءِ فَقَتَلُوهُمْ وَارْتَدُّوا عَنِ الإِسْلاَمِ وَسَاقُوا ذَوْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَبَعَثَ فِي أَثْرِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي الْحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا  

A group of eighty people from 'Ukl came to the Prophet [SAW], but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them and they fell sick. They complained about that to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and he said: "Why don't you go out with our herdsmen and drink the milk and urine of the camels?" They said: "Yes (we will do that)." They went out and drank some of the (camels') milk and urine, and they recovered. Then they killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], so he sent (men after them) and they caught them and brought them back. He had their hands and feet cut off and branded their eyes, and left them in the sun to die.  

أَنَّ نَفَرًا مِنْ عُكْلٍ ثَمَانِيَةً قَدِمُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَاسْتَوْخَمُوا الْمَدِينَةَ وَسَقِمَتْ أَجْسَامُهُمْ فَشَكَوْا ذَلِكَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَلاَ تَخْرُجُونَ مَعَ رَاعِينَا فِي إِبِلِهِ فَتُصِيبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا قَالُوا بَلَى فَخَرَجُوا فَشَرِبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَصَحُّوا فَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَبَعَثَ فَأَخَذُوهُمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَّرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَنَبَذَهُمْ فِي الشَّمْسِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا  

Some people from 'Ukl came to the Prophet [SAW] but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed: "The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger."

"A group of men from 'Ukl, or 'Uraynah, came to the Prophet [SAW], and when the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them, he told them to go to some camels and drink their milk and urine. Then they killed the herdsman and stole the camels. He sent (men) after them, and had their hands and feet cut off, and their eyes gouged out."  

أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَفَرٌ مِنْ عُكْلٍ أَوْ عُرَيْنَةَ فَأَمَرَ لَهُمْ وَاجْتَوَوُا الْمَدِينَةَ بِذَوْدٍ أَوْ لِقَاحٍ يَشْرَبُونَ أَلْبَانَهَا وَأَبْوَالَهَا فَقَتَلُوا الرَّاعِيَ وَاسْتَاقُوا الإِبِلَ فَبَعَثَ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ  

Some people from 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW], but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. When they recovered, they apostatized from Islam and killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], who was a believer, and drove the camels off. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] sent (men) after them, and they were caught. He had their hands and feet cut off, their eyes gouged out, and had them crucified.

"Some people from 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to them: 'Why don't you go out to our camels and stay with them and drink their milk and urine?' So they did that, and when they recovered, they went to the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and killed him, reverted to being disbelievers, and drove off the camels of the Prophet [SAW]. He sent (men) after them, and they were brought to him. He had their hands and feet cut off, and their eyes gouged out."  

قَدِمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَوْ خَرَجْتُمْ إِلَى ذَوْدِنَا فَكُنْتُمْ فِيهَا فَشَرِبْتُمْ مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَفَعَلُوا فَلَمَّا صَحُّوا قَامُوا إِلَى رَاعِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَتَلُوهُ وَرَجَعُوا كُفَّارًا وَاسْتَاقُوا ذَوْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَرْسَلَ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ  

"Some people from 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW], but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to them: 'Why don't you go out to our camels and drink their milk?'" - (one of the narrators) Qatadah said: 'And their urine.' - "So they went out to the camels of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], but when they recovered they killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], who was a believer, and drove off the camels of the Messenger of Allah [SAW], and left as those at war. He sent (men) after them and they were caught. Then he had their hands and feet cut off, and branded their eyes."

"Some people from 'Uraynah became Muslim, but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. some people from (the tribe of) ʿUrainah came to us (to Al-Madinah) during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but they did not want to stay in Al-Madinah because the climate did not suit them. He said: “Go out to the camels which belong to us, and drink their milk and urine.” So they did that (and recovered), then they apostatized from Islam and killed the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and stole his camels. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent people after them, and they were brought back. Then he cut off their hands and feet, branded their eyes and left them in Harrah until they died.

'O Messenger of Allah, we are nomads who follows the herds, not farmers and growers, and the climate of Al-Madinah does not suit us.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺtold them to go out to a flock of female camels and drink their milk and urine. When they recovered - and they were in the vicinity of Al-Harrah - they apostatized after having become Muslim, killed the camel-herder of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and drove the camels away. News of that reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he sent people after them. They were brought back, their eyes were smoldered with heated nails, their hands and feet cut off, then they were left in Al-Harrah in that state until they died." أَسْلَمَ نَاسٌ مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ فَاجْتَوَوْا الْمَدِينَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَوْ خَرَجْتُمْ إِلَى ذَوْدٍ لَنَا فَشَرِبْتُمْ مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا قَالَ حُمَيْدٌ وَقَالَ قَتَادَةُ عَنْ أَنَسٍ وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَفَعَلُوا فَلَمَّا صَحُّوا كَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلَامِهِمْ وَقَتَلُوا رَاعِيَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مُؤْمِنًا أَوْ مُسْلِمًا وَسَاقُوا ذَوْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهَرَبُوا مُحَارِبِينَ فَأَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَأُخِذُوا فَقَطَّعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي الْحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا  

[Machine] A group of Bedouins from Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and they settled in the city. He commanded them to drink from its milk and urine, so they drank until they recovered. Then, they killed the shepherds and stole the camels, so the Prophet of Allah ﷺ sent a group to pursue them. They were brought back, and their hands and feet were cut off, and their eyes were cauterized.  

قَدِمَ أَعْرَابٌ مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاجْتَوَوَا الْمَدِينَةَ «فَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا فَشَرِبُوا حَتَّى صَحُّوا فَقَتَلُوا رُعَاتَهَا وَاسْتَاقُوا الْإِبِلَ فَبَعَثَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ»  

[Machine] An Urainah delegation came to the Prophet ﷺ, so they entered Medina. The Prophet ﷺ sent them for treatment, saying, "Drink from its milk and urine." They drank until they recovered and fattened. However, they killed the shepherd of the Prophet ﷺ, stole the camels, and renegaded. The Prophet ﷺ sent people after them, caught them, and amputated their hands and legs. He gouged out their eyes and left them in the desert.  

أَنَّ وَفْدَ عُرَيْنَةَ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاجْتَوَوَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَبَعَثَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي لِقَاحِهِ فَقَالَ «اشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا» فَشَرِبُوا حَتَّى صَحُّوا وَسَمِنُوا فَقَتَلُوا رَاعِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَاسْتَاقُوا الذَّوْدَ وَارْتَدُّوا «فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَجِيءَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي الرَّمْضَاءِ»  

Some people from 'Ukl came to the Prophet [SAW] but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. The Prophet [SAW] told them to go to the camels that had been given in Sadaqah and drink some of their milk and urine. They did that, then they killed their herdsman and drove off the camels. The Prophet [SAW] sent (men) after them, and they were brought to him. He had their hands and feet cut off, and their eyes gouged out, and he did not have (their wounds) cauterized, and he left them to die. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed: "The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4025)   

قَدِمَ ثَمَانِيَةُ نَفَرٍ مِنْ عُكْلٍ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاجْتَوَوَا الْمَدِينَةَ «فَأَمَرَ بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَأْتُوا إِبِلَ الصَّدَقَةِ فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا» فَفَعَلُوا فَقَتَلُوا الرَّاعِيَ وَاسْتَاقُوا الْإِبِلَ «فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي طَلَبِهِمْ قَافَةً فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَّرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ وَلَمْ يَحْسِمْهُمْ»  

"Some people from 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to them: 'Why don't you go out to our camels and stay with them and drink their milk and urine?' So they did that, and when they recovered, they went to the herdsman of the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and killed him, reverted to being disbelievers, and drove off the camels of the Prophet [SAW]. He sent (men) after them, and they were brought to him. He had their hands and feet cut off, and their eyes gouged out." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4029)

"Some people from 'Uraynah came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW], but the climate of Al-Madinah did not suit them. " قَدِمَ نَاسٌ مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ المَدِينةَ فاجْتووْهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنْ شِئْتُمْ أنْ تَخْرُجُوا إِلَى إِبِلِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَتَشْربُونَ (*) مِنْ أَبْوالِهَا وألبَانِهَا فَفَعَلُوا، واسْتَصْبَحُوا، فَمَالُوا عَلَى الرِّعَاءِ فَقَتلُوهُمْ واسْتَاقُوا ذَوْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَكفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلاَمِهِمْ فَبَعَثَ فِى آثَارِهِم فَأُتِىَ بِهِمْ فَقَطعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأرْجُلَهُمْ وَسَمَلَ أعْيُنَهُمْ، وَتَركهُمْ بِالحَرَّةِ حَتَّى مَاتُوا".
