[Machine] A man had six slaves and he had no money except for them. So he freed them upon his death. This matter was brought to the Prophet ﷺ , who disliked it. Then he divided them, I think he said into three parts, and he drew lots among them. He freed two and kept four as slaves.

He said: "I was thinking of not offering the funeral prapyer for him." Then he called the slaves and divided them into three groups. He cast lost among them, then freed two and left four as slaves.

[Machine] A man from the Ansar passed away and left behind six slaves who had no wealth other than themselves. When he died, he freed all of them. This was brought to the attention of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . He divided them into three parts, then shook a pot containing lots between the parts. He freed one-third and raffled the remaining two-thirds. Muhammad ibn Sireen said, "If it had not been conveyed to me that this was the action of the Prophet ﷺ , I would have thought it was my own opinion."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَعْتَقَ سِتَّةً مَمْلُوكِينَ لَهُ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ مَالٌ غَيْرُهُمْ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَغَضِبَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَقَالَ «قَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ لَا أُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ دَعَا مَمْلُوكِيهِ فَجَزَّأَهُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَجْزَاءٍ ثُمَّ أَقْرَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَأَعْتَقَ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَرَقَّ أَرْبَعَةً»

a man freed six slaves of his when he was dying, and he did not have any wealth apart from them. News of that reached the Prophet and he was angry about that. He said: "I was thinking of not offering the funeral prapyer for him." Then he called the slaves and divided them into three groups. He cast lost among them, then freed two and left four as slaves. 'Imran b. Husain reported that a person who had no other property emancipated six slaves of his at the time of his death. Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for them and divided them into three sections, cast lots amongst them, and set two free and kept four in slavery; and he (the Holy Prophet) spoke severely of him.
