[Machine] That Ka'ab bin Al-Ashraf used to insult the Prophet ﷺ. So the Prophet ﷺ ordered Saad bin Muadh to send five people to him. They came to him while he was in a gathering with his people in Al-Awali. When he saw them, he got angry and asked, "What brings you here?" They said, "We have come to you with a need." He said, "Let each one of you come close to me and tell me about his need." Some of them approached him and said, "We have come to sell you some shields." He said, "By Allah, if you were to do so, then you would have done something meaningful since this man has made life difficult for you as soon as he arrived among you or as he said, 'among you'. So, make an appointment with him after a period of calm during the night." He added, "They went to him and he rose to meet them." His wife said to him, "What have they come to you for at this hour? It must be something that you desire." He replied, "They have informed me about their need." When they approached him, Abu 'Abs embraced him and Muhammad bin Maslamah came with a sword and struck him in the waist, killing him. In the morning, the Jews went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Our leader has been killed unjustly." The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the things that Ka'ab used to say in his poetry, and how he used to harm him. Then the Prophet ﷺ summoned them and asked them to write a treaty between them and him. He said, "And that treaty remained with Ali."
