[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, if you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much. And you would not be amused by luxury, nor would you enjoy the company of your spouses, nor would you be satisfied with food, and you would go to the open fields to beg from Allah." Abu Dharr, whenever he mentioned this hadith, would say, "I wish I were a tree that could be supported."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا أَعْلَمُ لَضَحِكْتُمْ قَلِيلًا وَلَبَكَيْتُمْ كَثِيرًا وَمَا اسَتَقْلَلْتُمْ عَلَى الْفُرُشِ وَلَا تَمَتَّعْتُمْ مِنَ الْأَزْوَاجِ وَلَا شَبِعْتُمْ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ وَلَخَرَجْتُمْ إِلَىالصُّعَدَاتِ تَجْأَرُونَ إِلَى اللَّهِ ﷻ» فَكَانَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ إِذَا حَدَّثَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي شَجَرَةً تُعَضَّدُ  

[Machine] We have goats that we milk, a red one that we ride, and a servant who serves us and the advantage of a cloak. I fear being held accountable for it.  

عِنْدَنَا أَعْنُزٍ نَحْتَلِبُهَا وَأَحْمُرٍ نَنْقُلُ عَلَيْهَا وَمُحَرَّرٌ يَخْدِمُنَا وفَضْلُ عَبَاءَةٍ إِنِّي أَخَافُ الْحِسَابَ فِيهَا  

[Machine] I wish I were a supported tree, and I wish I were not created.  

وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي كُنْتُ شَجَرَةً أُعَضَّدُ ووَدَدْتُ أَنِّي لَمْ أُخْلَقْ  

[Machine] Sufficient is the supplication with righteousness, as sufficient as salt for food.  

يَكْفِي مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ مَعَ الْبِرِّ مَا يَكْفِي الطَّعَامَ مِنَ الْمِلْحِ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "I know a verse, if people were to follow it, it would be sufficient for them." {And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect} [Surah At-Talaq 3]. He continued to repeat and emphasize this verse.  

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ آيَةً لَوْ أَخَذَ النَّاسُ بِهَا لَكَفَتْهُمْ» {وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا وَيَرْزُقُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ} [الطلاق 3] فَمَازَالَ يَقُولُهَا وَيُعِيدُهَا  

[Machine] That Abu Dharr passed by Abu Darda while he was constructing a building for himself. Abu Dharr said to him, "You have carried rocks on the shoulders of men." Abu Darda replied, "It is just a house that I am building." Abu Dharr said to him, "I have found the same thing with you, my brother. But if I were to pass by you and find you in the need of your family, it would be dearer to me than what I have seen you doing."  

أَنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ مَرَّ بِأَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ وَهُوَ يَبْنِي بِنَاءً لَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ قَدْ حَمَلْتَ الصَّخْرَ عَلَى عَوَاتِقِ الرِّجَالِ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنَّمَا هُوَ بَيْتٌ أَبْنِيهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو ذَرٍّ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ يَا أَخِي لَعَلَّكَ وَجَدْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ؟ فَقَالَ لَوْ مَرَرْتُ بِكَ وَأَنْتَ فِي عُذْرَةِ أَهْلِكَ كَانَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا رَأَيْتُكَ فِيهِ  

[Machine] Abu Dhar said: "Do you see mankind? Most of them are not good except those who are righteous or repenting."  

قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ هَلْ تَرَى النَّاسَ؟ مَا أَكْثَرُهُمْ مَا فِيهِمْ خَيْرٌ إِلَّا تَقِيٌّ أَوْ تَائِبٌ  

[Machine] I was with Abu Dharr, may Allah have mercy on him, and his servant girl when his charity was given to him. He began to fulfill his needs and I said, "O Abu Dharr, if you had saved it for a need that befalls you or for a guest who comes to you?" Abu Dharr replied, "Indeed, my beloved ﷺ made a covenant with me that whatever gold or silver comes to me, I will pour it out in the path of Allah until it is completely exhausted."  

كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ وَقَدْ خَرَجَ عَطَاؤُهُ وَمَعَهُ جَارِيَةٌ لَهُ فَجَعَلَ يَقْضِي حَوَائِجَهُ قَالَ فَفَضَلَ مَعَهُ قَالَ أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ سَبْعٌ فَأَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ بِهَا فُلُوسًا فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ لَوِ ادَّخَرْتَهُ لِحَاجَةٍ تَنُوبُكَ وَلِضَيْفٍ يَأْتِيكَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ خَلِيلِيَ ﷺ عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ أَيُّمَا ذَهَبٍ أَوْ فِضَّةٍ أُوكِيَ عَلَيْهِ فَهُوَ جَمْرٌ عَلَى صَاحِبِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حَتَّى يُفْرِغَهُ إِفْرَاغًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ﷻ  

[Machine] Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "Return it to him. Have you ever seen anyone more tempted by Allah than us? We only have a shade that we seek refuge in, a few sheep that come to us, and a leader who has been generous to us with her service. Then, I am afraid of the favor."  

أَبُو ذَرٍّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ ارْجِعْ بِهَا إِلَيْهِ أَمَا وَجَدَ أَحَدًا أَغَرَّ بِاللَّهِ مِنَّا؟ مَا لَنَا إِلَّا ظِلٌّ نَتَوَارَى بِهِ وَثُلَّةٌ مِنْ غَنَمٍ تَرُوحُ عَلَيْنَا وَمَوْلَاةٌ لَنَا تَصَدَّقَتْ عَلَيْنَا بِخِدْمَتِهَا ثُمَّ أَنَا أَتَخَوَّفُ الْفَضْلَ  

[Machine] "Abu Dharr may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Indeed, I am the closest of you to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Day of Judgment. This is because I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'The closest of you to me on the Day of Judgment is the one who has the same appearance as I left him in this world. By Allah, none of you will hold on to anything other than me.'"  

أَبُو ذَرٍّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ إِنِّي لَأَقْرَبُكُمْ مَجْلِسًا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَذَلِكَ أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ أَقْرَبَكُمْ مِنِّي مَجْلِسًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا كَهَيْئَةِ مَا تَرَكْتُهُ فِيهَا وَأَنَّهُ وَاللَّهِ مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا وَقَدْ تَشَبَّثَ مِنْهَا بِشَيْءٍ غَيْرِي»  

[Machine] Abu Dhar, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Whoever wears famous clothing or rides a famous animal, I will turn away from him, even if he is generous to me as long as he is upon that."  

قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ مَنْ لَبِسَ مَشْهُورًا مِنَ الثِّيَابِ أوْ رَكِبَ مَشْهُورًا مِنَ الدَّوَابِّ أَعْرَضَ ﷻ عَنْهُ وَإِنْ كَانَ كَرِيمًا عَلَيْهِ مَادَامَ عَلَيْهِ  

[Machine] The one with two dirhams is more accountable than the one with one dirham.  

ذُو الدِّرْهَمَيْنِ أَشَدُّ حِسَابًا مِنْ ذِي الدِّرْهَمِ  

[Machine] "That Muawiyah, may Allah have mercy on him, wrote to Uthman, 'If you have any need in Sham, then send Abu Dhar to me.' Abu Darda said, 'If Abu Dhar were to strike my back and cut off my hands, I would not find fault with him. For I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The greenery did not darken, nor did the dust diminish, for the one who has a speech more truthful than Abu Dhar's. And whoever likes to see the least of people detached from the world, let him look at Abu Dhar." So he went to Uthman and Uthman said to him, 'O Abu Dhar, stay with us. The provisions will come to you in the morning and evening.' Abu Dhar said, 'No, I have no need for that.' He said, 'But as for Rabdhah, it was a dwelling for me. Give me permission to go to it.' So he gave him permission."  

أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ كَتَبَ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ ؓ إِنْ كَانَ لَكَ فِي الشَّامِ حَاجَةٌ فاَرْجِعْ إِلَيْكَ أَبَا ذَرٍّ فَقَالَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ لَوْ أَنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ ضَرَبَ ظَهْرِي وَقَطَعَ يَدَيَّ مَا وَجَدْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا أَظَلَّتِ الْخَضْرَاءُ وَلَا أَقَلَّتِ الْغَبْرَاءُ لِذِي لَهْجَةٍ أَصْدَقَ مِنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ وَمَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى أَدْنَى النَّاسِ زُهْدًا فِي الدُّنْيَا فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى أَبِي ذَرٍّ» فَقَدِمَ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُثْمَانُ ؓ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ أَقِمْ عِنْدَنَا تَغْدُو عَلَيْكُمُ اللِّقَاحُ وَتَرُوحُ فَقَالَ لَا [122] حَاجَةَ لِي فِيهَا وَقَالَ إِنَّ الرَّبَذَةَ كَانَتْ لِي مَنْزِلًا فَائْذَنْ لِي أَنْ آتِيَهَا فَأَذِنَ لَهُ  

[Machine] Indeed, Allah says: "O son of Adam, if you come to Me with sins almost as great as the earth and meet Me without associating anything with Me, I will bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it."  

إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ يَقُولُ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ إِنْ لَقِيتَنِي بِمِلْءِ الْأَرْضِ ذُنُوبًا لَا تُشْرِكْ بِي شَيْئًا لَقِيتُكَ بِمِثْلِهَا هُدًى  

[Machine] To be a prince? And what would suffice for me every day is a sip of water or milk, and on Fridays a loaf of wheat bread.  

بِأَنْ أَكُونَ أَمِيرًا؟ وَإِنَّ مَا يَكْفِينِي فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ شَرْبَةُ مَاءٍ أَوْ لَبَنٍ وَفِي الْجُمْعَةِ قَفِيزٌ مِنْ قَمْحٍ  

[Machine] No one knew anyone more resembling Jesus, the son of Mary, than Abu Dharr.  

لَمْ يُعْلَمْ أَحَدٌ أَشَدَّ تَشَبُّهًا بِعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ مِنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ  

[Machine] To her, O mother of Zarr, indeed before us there is a difficult and challenging obstacle, and indeed avoiding it is easier than bearing its weight.  

لَهَا يَا أُمَّ ذَرٍّ إِنَّ بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا عَقَبَةً كَئُودًا وَإِنَّ الْمُخِفَّ فِيهَا أَهْوَنُ مِنَ الْمُثْقِلِ  

[Machine] I heard a sheikh say, "O people, indeed I am an adviser to you. Indeed, I am sympathetic towards you. Pray in the darkness of the night for the loneliness of the graves. Fast in this worldly life for the heat of the Day of Resurrection. Give charity out of fear of a difficult day. O people, indeed I am an adviser to you. Indeed, I am sympathetic towards you."  

سَمِعْتُ شَيْخًا يَقُولُ إِنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ كَانَ يَقُولُ يَأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَاصِحٌ إِنِّي عَلَيْكُمْ شَفِيقٌ صَلُّوا فِي ظُلْمَةِ اللَّيْلِ لِوَحْشَةِ الْقُبُورِ وَصُومُوا الدُّنْيَا لِحَرِّ يَوْمِ النُّشُورِ وَتَصَدَّقُوا مَخَافَةَ يَوْمٍ عَسِيرٍ يَأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَاصِحٌ إِنِّي عَلَيْكُمْ شَفِيقٌ
