ahmad-zuhd:800ʿAbdullāh from my father > Abū Muʿāwiyah > al-Aʿmash > Ibrāhīm al-Taymī from his father > Abū Dhar ؒ > Qīl Alā Tattakhidh Ḍayʿah Kamā Āttakhadh Fulān And Fulān > Mā Aṣnaʿ

[Machine] He was asked, “Why don’t you acquire an estate as so-and-so and so-and-so have?” He replied, “What use is it to me to be an emir? All that suffices me each day is a drink of water or milk, and on Friday a qafiz of wheat.”

الزهد لأحمد:٨٠٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ قَالَ

قِيلَ أَلَا تَتَّخِذُ ضَيْعَةً كَمَا اتَّخَذَ فُلَانٌ وَفُلَانٌ؟ قَالَ مَا أَصْنَعُ بِأَنْ أَكُونَ أَمِيرًا؟ وَإِنَّ مَا يَكْفِينِي فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ شَرْبَةُ مَاءٍ أَوْ لَبَنٍ وَفِي الْجُمْعَةِ قَفِيزٌ مِنْ قَمْحٍ
