'A'isha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ said, "People asked the Prophet ﷺ about soothsayers. He told them, 'They are nothing.' They said, But, Messenger of Allah, they speak about things which are true!' The Prophet ﷺ responded, 'That is a word which Shaytan steals and then he mumbles it into the ear of his protege with a sound like the clucking of a chicken. Then they mix a hundred lies with it.'"

[AI] Some people asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about soothsayers, so he said: "They are nothing." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, they sometimes tell us something, and it turns out to be true." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "That is a word of truth; he snatches it from the jinni and places it in the ear of his ally, then they mix with it a hundred lies."

Ali said: Abd al-Razzaq said, "It is mursal: 'the word is from the truth.' Then it reached me that he later connected its chain."

Sometimes they tell something which comes out to be true." It is nothing (i. e. it is a mere superstition). They said: Messenger of Allah, they at times narrate to us things which we find true. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: That is a word pertaining to truth which a jinn snatches away and then cackles into the ear of his friend as the hen does. And then they mix in it more than one hundred lies. (Using translation from Muslim 2228b)
