Some people asked the Prophet ﷺ regarding the soothsayers. He said, "They are nothing." They said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Some of their talks come true." The Prophet ﷺ said, "That word which happens to be true is what a Jinn snatches away by stealth (from the Heaven) and pours it in the ears of his friend (the foreteller) with a sound like the cackling of a hen. The soothsayers then mix with that word, one hundred lies."  

البخاري:٧٥٦١ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيٌّ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ح وَحَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَنْبَسَةُ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُرْوَةَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَتْ

عَائِشَةُ ؓ سَأَلَ أُنَاسٌ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الْكُهَّانِ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُمْ لَيْسُوا بِشَىْءٍ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُمْ يُحَدِّثُونَ بِالشَّىْءِ يَكُونُ حَقًّا قَالَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ تِلْكَ الْكَلِمَةُ مِنَ الْحَقِّ يَخْطَفُهَا الْجِنِّيُّ فَيُقَرْقِرُهَا فِي أُذُنِ وَلِيِّهِ كَقَرْقَرَةِ الدَّجَاجَةِ فَيَخْلِطُونَ فِيهِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مِائَةِ كَذْبَةٍ

Some people asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the fore-tellers. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "They are nothing (i.e., liars)." The people said, 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ ! Sometimes they tell something which comes out to be true." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That word which comes to be true is what a jinx snatches away by stealing and then pours it in the ear of his fore-teller with a sound similar to the cackle of a hen, and then they add to it one-hundred lies."

It is nothing (i. e. it is a mere superstition). They said: Messenger of Allah, they at times narrate to us things which we find true. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: That is a word pertaining to truth which a jinn snatches away and then cackles into the ear of his friend as the hen does. And then they mix in it more than one hundred lies.  

مسلم:٢٢٢٨b – حَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلٌ وَهْوَ ابْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ عُرْوَةَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُرْوَةَ يَقُولُ قَالَتْ
