adab:1254 –

Anas said, "On the day he was born, I took 'Abdullah ibn Abi Talha to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. I found him wearing a woollen robe while he was marking one of his camels with tar. The Prophet said, 'Do you have any dates with you?' 'Yes,' I replied. I gave him some dates. He chewed the dates and opened the child's mouth and put some chewed dates into the child's mouth. The child licked his lips. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'The Ansar love dates,' and gave him the name 'Abdullah."

الأدب المفرد:١٢٥٤ – حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مِنْهَالٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

ذَهَبْتُ بِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَوْمَ وُلِدَ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي عَبَاءَةٍ يَهْنَأُ بَعِيرًا لَهُ فَقَالَ مَعَكَ تَمَرَاتٌ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَنَاوَلْتُهُ تَمَرَاتٍ فَلاَكَهُنَّ ثُمَّ فَغَرَ فَا الصَّبِيِّ وَأَوْجَرَهُنَّ إِيَّاهُ فَتَلَمَّظَ الصَّبِيُّ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حُبَّ الأَنْصَارِ التَّمْرَ وَسَمَّاهُ عَبْدَ اللهِ

I took 'Abdullah b. Abi Talha Ansari to Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the time of his birth. Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at that time wearing a woollen cloak and besmearing the camels with tar. He said: Have you got with you the dates? I said: Yes. He took hold of the dates and put them in his mouth and softened them, then opened the mouth of the infant and put that in it and the child began to lick it. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The Ansar have a liking for the dates, and he (the Holy Prophet) gave him the name of 'Abdullah.

Have you some dates? I said : Yes. I then gave him some dates which he put in his mouth, chewed them, opened his mouth and them in it. The baby began to lick them. The prophet (May peace be upon him) said: ANSAR’s favourite (fruit) is dates. And he gave him the name of ‘Abd al-Rahman.
