If any one introduces into this affair of ours anything which does not belong to it, it is rejected. Ibn ʿIsa said: The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone practices any action in a way other than our practice, it is rejected.  

أبو داود:٤٦٠٦ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّازُ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْمَخْرَمِيُّ وَإِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ أَحْدَثَ فِي أَمْرِنَا هَذَا مَا لَيْسَ فِيهِ فَهُوَ رَدٌّ قَالَ ابْنُ عِيسَى قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَنْ صَنَعَ أَمْرًا عَلَى غَيْرِ أَمْرِنَا فَهُوَ رَدٌّ

An innovation in religion that is not in harmony with it is rejected

bukhari:2697 – Yaʿqūb > Ibrāhīm b. Saʿd from his father > al-Qāsim b. Muḥammad > ʿĀʾishah

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If somebody innovates something which is not in harmony with the principles of our religion, that thing is rejected."
