[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O people of the Ansar, did I not come to you when you were misguided, and Allah guided you through me? Did I not come to you while you were divided, and Allah united you through me? Did I not come to you when you had enemies, and Allah brought your hearts together through me?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Then why don't you say, 'You came to us scared, and we believed in you, deserted, and we sheltered you, and rejected, and we supported you?' They said, 'Rather, it is by Allah's favor upon us and His Messenger's.'"

أحمد:١٢٠٢١حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out to Badr, he consulted the people. Abu Bakr indicated towards him, then they consulted him and Umar pointed towards him. He remained silent. A man from the Ansar said, "He only wants you." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, we will not be like the Children of Israel who said to Musa, 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight. We are sitting here.' But, by Allah, if you were to strike their livers until you reach the depths of their hearts, we would still be with you."

Finally, the Prophet ﷺ sought the advice of others. Some of the Ansar said, "Beware! The Prophet of Allah ﷺ wants to consult us." A spokesperson for the Ansar said, "O Prophet of Allah, we do not say to you what the Children of Israel said to Moses, 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight. We are here waiting.' But, by the One who sent you with the truth, even if you were to strike their livers, we would march with you to Barkil Ghimad." [Machine] And she said to her family, "Do not inform anyone from among you of the death of Abu Talhah's son." So he returned to his family, and some people from the people of the mosque who were his companions accompanied him. He asked, "What did the boy do?" She said, "He did the best thing. So I brought them their dinner, and they ate. Then the people left, and the woman went to where women go. When it was the end of the night, she said, "O Abu Talhah, did you not see how the Fulan family borrowed a female camel and enjoyed her, but when she was demanded back, they disliked that?" He said, "They were not fair." She said, "Indeed, your son was borrowed from Allah the Almighty and Allah took him back, so He returned him." Abu Talhah praised Allah. When morning came, he went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and when he saw him, he said, "May Allah bless your night." She became pregnant with Abdullah and gave birth to him at night. And she disliked to give him a bath until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him a bath. He said, "Do you have anything with you?" I said, "Some dates of al-'Ajwah." So he took some of them and chewed them, and then he saliva and gave it to the child, and he rubbed it on his body. Then he said, "The love of the Ansar is in dates." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, name him." He said, "His name is Abdullah."

Abdullah ibn Hudhafah said, "O Messenger of Allah, who is my father?" He said, "Your father is Hudhafah." His mother said, "Did you want anything from him?" He said, "I wanted to rest." It was said about him (Abdullah ibn Hudhafah), Humaid said, and I think this is narrated from Anas, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry. Umar said, "We are content with Allah as our Lord, Islam as our religion, and Muhammad ﷺ as our Prophet. We seek refuge with Allah from the anger of Allah and the anger of His Messenger."

[Machine] Abdullah ibn Salam came to the Messenger of Allah and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I ask you about three characteristics that only a prophet knows." He said, "Ask." He said, "What is the first sign of the Hour? What is the first food that the people of Paradise will eat? And from where does a child resemble his father and mother?" The Messenger of Allah said, "Jibril informed me about them before." He said, "The first sign of the Hour is a fire that will emerge from the east and gather the people towards the west. The first food that the people of Paradise will eat is the extra lobe of the liver of a fish. And as for the resemblance of a child to his father and mother, when the man's water (semen) overwhelms the water of the woman, the child will resemble the father. And when the water of the woman overwhelms the water of the man, the child will resemble the mother." He said, "I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that you are the Messenger of Allah." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, the Jews are a deceitful people, and if they come to know about my Islam, they will slander me in your presence. So, send for them and ask them about me, saying, 'What kind of person is Abdullah ibn Salam among you?' Then send for me and ask me, 'What kind of person is Abdullah ibn Salam?' They will say, 'He is the best among us, the son of the best among us, our most knowledgeable and the son of our most knowledgeable, our most understanding and the son of our most understanding.' Ask them, 'If he becomes Muslim, will you become Muslim?' They will say, 'May Allah protect him from that.' Then, you send for them again and ask, 'What kind of person is Abdullah ibn Salam among you?' They will say, 'He is the worst among us, the son of the worst among us, our most ignorant and the son of our most ignorant.' Then, I will come to you and testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Ibn Salam said, "This is what I was afraid of from them."
