[Machine] In the saying of Allah, the Exalted, "{The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split.}" [Surah Al-Qamar 54:1], it is said that this occurred during the time of the Prophet ﷺ when the moon split into two halves: one half was on one side of the mountain and the other half was on the other side. The Prophet ﷺ then said, "O Allah, bear witness."

فِي قَوْلِهِ ﷻ {اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ} [القمر 1] قَالَ كَانَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ فِلْقَتَيْنِ فِلْقَةٌ مِنْ دُونِ الْجَبَلِ وَفِلْقَةٌ خَلْفَ الْجَبَلِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «اللَّهُمَّ اشْهَدْ»

[Machine] About Abdullah's statement in his words, may Allah be glorified and exalted: "And the moon split" [Surah Al-Qamar, verse 1]. He said, "I saw the moon split, and I saw the mountain between the two parts of the moon."

فِي قَوْلِهِ ﷻ {وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ} [القمر 1] قَالَ «رَأَيْتُ الْقَمَرَ وَقَدِ انْشَقَّ فَأَبْصَرْتُ الْجَبَلَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ فَرْجَيِ الْقَمَرِ»

[Machine] "I saw the moon split into two halves twice in Makkah before the Prophet's ﷺ migration, with one half over Abu Qubays and the other half over the Suwayda." They said, "The moon is bewitched," then came the verse, "The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]." (Quran 54:1) He said, "Just as you saw it split, what I have informed you about the approaching Hour is true."

«رَأَيْتُ الْقَمَرَ مُنْشَقًّا بِشِقَّتَيْنِ مَرَّتَيْنِ بِمَكَّةَ قَبْلَ مَخْرَجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ شِقَّةٌ عَلَى أَبِي قُبَيْسٍ وَشِقَّةٌ عَلَى السُّوَيْدَاءِ» فَقَالُوا سُحِرَ الْقَمَرُ فَنَزَلَتْ {اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ} [القمر 1] يَقُولُ «كَمَا رَأَيْتُمْ مُنْشَقًّا فَإِنَّ الَّذِي أَخْبَرْتُكُمْ عَنِ اقْتِرَابِ السَّاعَةِ حَقٌّ»

[Machine] The people of Mecca asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for a sign, and the moon was split in Mecca twice. Allah (the Exalted) said, "The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split" [Al-Qamar 54:1].

سَأَلَ أَهْلُ مَكَّةَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ آيَةً فَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ بِمَكَّةَ مَرَّتَيْنِ قَالَ اللَّهُ ﷻ {اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ} [القمر 1] قَدِ اتَّفَقَ الشَّيْخَانِ عَلَى حَدِيثِ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ

[Machine] "We descended from the cities onto a wide plain. When Friday came, he arrived and I arrived with him. Hudhaifah delivered the sermon and said, 'Verily, Allah Almighty says: "The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been split." (Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 1) Verily, the Hour is close, and verily, the moon has been split. Verily, the world has announced its separation, and verily, today is the race and tomorrow is the competition.' So I said to my father, 'Should I compete with the people tomorrow?' He said, 'O my son, you are ignorant. It means we must work today and the reward will be tomorrow.' When the next Friday came, we attended and Hudhaifah delivered the sermon again. He said, 'Verily, Allah Almighty says: "The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been split." (Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 1) Verily, the world has announced its separation, and verily, today is the race and tomorrow is the competition. And verily, the ultimate destination is Hellfire, and the winner is he who reaches Paradise.'"

نَزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَدَائِنِ عَلَى فَرْسَخٍ فَلَمَّا جَاءَتِ الْجُمُعَةُ حَضَرَ وَحَضَرْتُ مَعَهُ فَخَطَبَنَا حُذَيْفَةُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ يَقُولُ {اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ} [القمر 1] أَلَا وَإِنَّ السَّاعَةَ قَدِ اقْتَرَبَتْ أَلَا وَإِنَّ الْقَمَرَ قَدِ انْشَقَّ أَلَا وَإِنَّ الدُّنْيَا قَدْ آذَنَتْ بِفِرَاقٍ أَلَا وَإِنَّ الْيَوْمَ الْمِضْمَارُ وَغَدًا السِّبَاقُ فَقُلْتُ لِأَبِي أَيَسْتَبِقُ النَّاسُ غَدًا؟ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنَّكَ لَجَاهِلٌ إِنَّمَا يَعْنِي الْعَمَلَ الْيَوْمَ وَالْجَزَاءُ غَدًا فَلَمَّا جَاءَتِ الْجُمُعَةُ الْأُخْرَى حَضَرْنَا فَخَطَبَنَا حُذَيْفَةُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ يَقُولُ {اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ} [القمر 1] أَلَا وَإِنَّ الدُّنْيَا قَدْ آذَنَتْ بِفِرَاقٍ أَلَا وَإِنَّ الْيَوْمَ الْمِضْمَارُ وَغَدًا السِّبَاقُ أَلَا وَإِنَّ الْغَايَةَ النَّارُ وَالسَّابِقُ مَنْ سَبَقَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ

[Machine] In His words, the Almighty (ﷻ), "{The Hour has come near, and the moon has split}" [Quran, Al-Qamar 54:1], it is said, "The moon split while we were in Mecca during the time of the Prophet ﷺ ."

فِي قَوْلِهِ ﷻ {اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ} [القمر 1] الْقَمَرُ قَالَ «انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ وَنَحْنُ بِمَكَّةَ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ»

[Machine] "The moon split and we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Mina until a piece of it went behind the mountain. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Bear witness!'"

انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ وَكُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِمِنًى حَتَّى ذَهَبَتْ فِلْقَةٌ خَلْفَ الْجَبَلِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «اشْهَدُوا»

[Machine] Five signs have passed and five of them remain, including the splitting of the moon, which we have witnessed. The smoke has passed, the great grasp has passed, the barren day has passed, and the catastrophe has passed.

مَضَى خَمْسُ آيَاتٍ وَبَقِيَ خَمْسٌ مِنْهَا انْشِقَاقُ الْقَمَرِ وَقَدْ رَأَيْنَاهُ وَمَضَى الدُّخَانُ وَمَضَتِ الْبَطْشَةُ الْكُبْرَى وَمَضَى الْيَوْمُ الْعَقِيمُ وَمَضَى اللِّزَامُ

[Machine] The moon was split during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . They said that it was a magic act made by the moon. Then the verse was revealed, "The Hour has come near, and the moon has split".

كُسِفَ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالُوا سُحِرَ الْقَمَرُ فَنَزَلَتْ {اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ} الْقَمَرُ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {مُسْتَمِرٌّ}

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw the people turning away, he said, "O Allah, send down rain upon them, for seven years they ate dead animals, skins, and bones." Abu Sufyan came to him with some people from the people of Mecca and said, "O Muhammad, you claim that you have been sent as a mercy, and yet your people have perished. Invoke Allah for them." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made supplication and then it rained heavily upon them seven times. The people complained about the abundance of rain, so he said, "O Allah, around us and not upon us," and the cloud moved away from above their heads. He said, "Thus the people were watered around them." He said, "The sign of the smoke has passed, and it is the hunger that afflicted them," and this is the saying of Allah ﷻ, "Indeed, We have relieved the torment of a little time (i.e. we delayed the punishment for them) - indeed, you are returning to Us." (Surah Ad-Dukhan 15) And the sign of being overwhelmed and the great victory on the day of Badr, and the splitting of the moon, they are mentioned in Sahih sources from various angles, except from Mansur. And Bukhari referred to the narration of Asbat and its addition, which came in the hadith about the Prophet's ﷺ supplication and its acceptance.

لَمَّا رَأَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ النَّاسِ إِدْبَارًا قَالَ اللهُمَّ بِسَبْعٍ كَسَبْعِ يُوسُفَ فَأَخْذَتْهُمْ سَنَةٌ حَتَّى أَكَلُوا الْمَيْتَةَ وَالْجُلُودَ وَالْعِظَامَ فَجَاءَهُ أَبُو سُفْيَانَ وَنَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ فَقَالُوا يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّكَ تَزْعُمُ أَنَّكَ بُعِثْتَ رَحْمَةً وَإِنَّ قَوْمَكَ قَدْ هَلَكُوا فَادْعُ اللهَ لَهُمْ فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَسُقُوا الْغَيْثَ فَأَطْبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعًا فَشَكَى النَّاسُ كَثْرَةَ الْمَطَرِ فَقَالَ اللهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا فَانْحَدَرَتِ السَّحَابَةُ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ قَالَ فَأُسْقِيَ النَّاسُ حَوْلَهُمْ قَالَ لَقَدْ مَضَتْ آيَةُ الدُّخَانِ وَهُوَ الْجُوعُ الَّذِي أَصَابَهُمْ وَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ ﷻ {إِنَّا كَاشِفُو الْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُمْ عَائِدُونَ} [الدخان 15] وَآيَةُ اللُّزُومِ وَالْبَطْشَةِ الْكُبْرَى يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ وَانْشِقَاقِ الْقَمَرِ

"إِذَا اقتربَتْ السَّاعةُ تَقَاربَ الزمانُ فتكونُ السَّنةُ كالشهْرِ والشهرُ كالجمعةِ، والجمعةُ إلى الجمعةِ كاحْتراقِ السِّعفِة في النَّارِ".
