The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the salutation at the end of three rakahs in the afternoon prayer, then went into the apartment (according to the version of maslamah). A man called al-Khirbaq who had long arms got up and said ; has the prayer been shortened, Messenger of Allah ? He came out angrily trailing his cloak and said : Is he telling the truth ? they said; Yes. He then prayed that rakah, then gave the salutation, then made two prostrations, then gave the salutation. [Machine] The Prophet ﷺ performed three units of prayer in the afternoon, then he stood up and a man named Al-Khirbaq entered and approached him. The man had some cloth in his hands, and he said, "O Messenger of Allah!" So the Prophet went to him, and he mentioned his concerns to him. Then he came back and said, "Is this true?" They replied, "Yes." So he performed the unit of prayer that he had missed, then he made the salaam, and then he prostrated twice, and then he made the salaam again.

So the Prophet ﷺ became angry and dragged his garment until he reached the people. He then said, "Did he say the truth?" They replied, "Yes." So he prayed that unit (rak'ah) and then made the prostration of forgetfulness (sujood as-sahw), followed by the final salutation.

They replied, "Yes." The Prophet then stood and performed that rak'ah, then he greeted with the salaam, then he prostrated two prostrations, then he greeted with the salaam. Ibn Ulayyah said, "Then he entered his house, and the rest of the hadeeth is according to its meaning."  

البيهقي:٣٩١٢أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو النَّضْرِ الْفَقِيهُ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ (ح) وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ أنبأ أَبُو قِلَابَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَلَّبِ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ

سَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي ثَلَاثِ رَكَعَاتٍ مِنَ الْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْخِرْبَاقُ وَكَانَ طَوِيلَ الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ فَخَرَجَ مُغْضَبًا يَجُرُّ رِدَاءَهُ فَقَالَ أَصَدَقَ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى تِلْكَ الرَّكْعَةَ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْهِمَا ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ وَقَالَ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ مَنْزِلَهُ وَالْبَاقِي بِمَعْنَاهُ

"عَنْ عِمرانَ بنِ حُصَينٍ قَالَ: سلَّم رسولُ الله ﷺ مِنْ ثَلَاثِ رَكعَاتٍ مِنَ العَصْرِ فَدَخَلَ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ الحِزْبَاق، وَكَانَ طَوِيلَ اليَدَيْنِ، فَقَالَ: أَقصرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ يَا رَسُولَ الله؟ فَخَرجَ مُغْضبًا يَجُرُّ رداءه حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ: أصَدَقَ هَذَا؟ فَقَالُوا: نَعَمْ، فَقَامَ يُصَلِّى تِلْكَ الركعَة، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتيْن".
