I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Two resembling sheep are to be sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl. AbuDawud said: I heard Ahmad (ibn Hanbal) say: The Arabic word mukafi'atani means equal (in age) or resembling each other.

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ عَنِ الْغُلاَمِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافِئَتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Two sheep which resemble each other are to be sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl. Abu Dawud said: This is a sound tradition, and the tradition narrated by Sufyan is misunderstanding.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْغُلاَمِ شَاتَانِ مِثْلاَنِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ

"for a boy two sheep, Mukafaatan (of equal age), and for a girl, one sheep."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ فِي الْغُلاَمِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافَأَتَانِ وَفِي الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ

"For a boy two sheep, Mukafaatan (of equal age), and for a girl, one sheep,

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ عَنِ الْغُلاَمِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافَأَتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ

“I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ‘On behalf of a boy, two sheep of equal age and on behalf of a girl one sheep.’”

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ عَنِ الْغُلاَمِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافِئَتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to sacrifice two sheep for a boy’s ‘Aqiqah and one sheep for a girl.”

أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَعُقَّ عَنِ الْغُلاَمِ شَاتَيْنِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةً

“I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ‘On behalf of a boy, two sheep of equal age and on behalf of a girl one sheep.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3162)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ فِي الْعَقِيقَةِ «عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافِئَتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ»

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to sacrifice two sheep for a boy’s ‘Aqiqah and one sheep for a girl.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3163)

عَقَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَيْنِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةً

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about 'Aqiqah (sacrificial offering for a new-born). He replied, "I do not like disobedience. Whoever has a newborn, it is preferable for them to offer a sacrifice on their behalf. For a baby boy, two sheep should be given as a reward, and for a baby girl, one sheep should be given."

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْعَقِيقَةِ؟ فَقَالَ لَا أُحِبُّ الْعُقُوقَ وَمَنْ وُلِدَ لَهُ مَوْلُودٌ فَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَنْسُكَ عَنْهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافَأَتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about Aqeeqah, so he said, "I do not like to be disobedient, as if he disliked the name. And he said, 'Whoever has a child and wants to sacrifice for his child, let him do so.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْعَقِيقَةِ فَقَالَ لَاأُحِبُّ الْعُقُوقَ كَأَنَّهُ كَرِهَ الِاسْمَ وَقَالَ مَنْ وُلِدَ لَهُ فَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَنْسُكَ عَنْ وَلَدِهِ فَلْيَفْعَلْ

[AI] I asked the Prophet ﷺ about the 'Aqiqah (sacrifice for a newborn), and he said, "I do not like disobedience, but whoever has a child born to him, and wishes to offer a sacrifice for him or from him, then they should do so."

سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الْعَقِيقَةِ فَقَالَ لَا أُحِبُّ الْعُقُوقَ وَلَكِنْ مَنْ وُلِدَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ فَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَنْسُكَ عَلَيْهِ أَوْ عَنْهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ

[AI] He said, "I witnessed the Prophet ﷺ at Arafat, and he was asked about 'Aqeeqah (sacrifice for the newborn). He replied, 'I do not like disobedience (to parents), but whoever has a child born to him and wants to sacrifice for him, let him do so."

أَنَّهُ قَالَ شَهِدْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِعَرَفَةَ فَسُئِلَعَنِ الْعَقِيقَةِ؟ فَقَالَ لَا أُحِبُّ الْعُقُوقَ وَلَكِنْ مَنْ وُلِدَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ فَأَحَبَّ أَنَّ يَنْسُكَ عَنْهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ

"For a boy two sheep, Mukafaatan (of equal age), and for a girl, one sheep, (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4216)

[AI] From the Prophet ﷺ about 'Aqiqah, he said: for a baby boy, two sheep should be given as rewards, and for a baby girl, one sheep should be given.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الْعَقِيقَةِ فَقَالَ عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافَأَتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ

[AI] "From the Prophet ﷺ , from the young boy and from the young girl."

Yahya related to me from Zayd ibn Aslam from a man of the Banu Damra that his father said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about the Aqiqa. He said, 'I do not like disobedience (uquq),' as if he disliked the name. He said, 'If anyone has a child born to him, and wants to sacrifice for his child, then let him do it.' "

أَنَّهُ قَالَ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْعَقِيقَةِ فَقَالَ لاَ أُحِبُّ الْعُقُوقَ وَكَأَنَّهُ إِنَّمَا كَرِهَ الاِسْمَ وَقَالَ مَنْ وُلِدَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ فَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَنْسُكَ عَنْ وَلَدِهِ فَلْيَفْعَلْ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about Aqeeqah, so he said, "I do not like disobedience. Whoever from amongst you has a child born to him, let him offer a sacrifice on his behalf. For a boy, two sheep are to be sacrificed, and for a girl, one sheep is to be sacrificed."

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْعَقِيقَةِ فَقَالَ «لَا أُحِبُّ الْعُقُوقَ مَنْ وُلِدَ لَهُ مِنْكُمْ مَوْلُودٌ فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ يُنْسِكَ عَنْهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ»

[AI] "She heard the Prophet ﷺ say about a newborn boy, 'Two sheep as a sacrifice, and about a newborn girl, one sheep, it does not harm you whether it is male or female.'"

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي الْعَقِيقَةِ قَالَ «عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ لَا يَضُرُّكُمْ ذُكْرَانًا كُنَّ أَوْ إِنَاثًا»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said regarding the 'aqiqah, "For a boy, two sheep, and for a girl, one sheep."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي الْعَقِيقَةِ «عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ»

[AI] She asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about aqiqah, and he said, "For a boy, two sheep as a reward, and for a girl, one sheep."

أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْعَقِيقَةِ فَقَالَ «عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافَأَتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ»

[AI] "That the Prophet ﷺ said, 'For a boy, two sheep are to be sacrificed, and for a girl, one sheep.'"

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «فِي الْعَقِيقَةِ لِلْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , saying, "For a young boy, there are two rewards, and for a young girl, there is one reward."

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "For a male child, there are two sheep as a sacrifice, and for a female child, one sheep."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «فِي الْعَقِيقَة عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافَأَتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ»

[AI] She heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "For a boy, it is a satan, and for a girl, it is a shah."

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ»

"for a boy two sheep, Mukafaatan (of equal age), and for a girl, one sheep." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4215)

"لا يحِبُّ الله العُقُوقَ، وَمَنْ ولُدَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ فَأَحَبَّ أنْ يَنْسِكَ عَنْهُ فَليَنْسِكْ. عَنِ الغُلامِ شَاتَانِ متَكافِئَتانِ، وَعَنِ الجَارِيِة شَاةٌ".
