6. Book of Sacrifices (1/2)
"The Messenger of Allah sacrificed two horned, Amlah rams, saying: 'Allah Akbar and pronouncing the Name of Allah. I saw him slaughtering them with his own hand, and placing his foot on their sides." I said: You heard it from Him? He said: Yes. (Sahih ) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4415)
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed two rams on the Day of ‘Eid. When he turned them to face towards the prayer direction he said: ‘Verily, I have turned my face towards Him Who has created the heavens and the earth, as a monotheist, and I am not of the polytheists. Verily, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of all that exists. He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims. [6:79,162-163] O Allah, from You to You, on behalf of Muhammad and his nation.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3121)
6.2 [Machine] What can be inferred from the narration of the Prophet ﷺ that the Udhiyah (sacrificial animal) is not obligatory.
"Ibn Al-Musayyab told me that Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet told him that the Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever wants to offer a sacrifice, let him not remove anything from his nails or cut his hair for the first ten days Dhul-Jijjah."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4362)
“When the ten days (of Dhul-Hijjah) begin, and one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him not remove anything from his hair or skin.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3149)
6.3 [Machine] What is not permissible in sacrifice
A Marfu' narration (from the Prophet ﷺ), saying: "A crippled animal whose limp is obvious is not to be slaughtered as sacrifice, nor an animal with a bad eye whose blindness is obvious, nor a sick animal whose sickness is obvious, nor an emaciated animal that has no marrow (in its bones)." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1497)
“I heard ‘Ubaid bin Fairuz say: ‘I said to Bara’ bin ‘Azib: “Tell us of the sacrificial animals that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked or forbade.” He said: “Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said like this with his hand. And my hand is shorter than his hand:* ‘There are four that will not be accepted as sacrifices: The one-eyed animal that is obviously blind in one eye; the sick animal that is obviously sick; the lame animal with an obvious limp; and the animal that is so emaciated that it is as if there is no marrow in its bones.’” He said:** “And I dislike that the animal should have some fault in its ears.” He said: “What you dislike, forget about it and do not make it forbidden to anyone.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3144)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to check the eyes and ears [when selecting an animal for sacrifice] (Using translation from Aḥmad 732)
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to trim the eye and ear, and not to shave, trim, or pierce." So, "trimming" refers to cutting the edge of the ear, "shaving" refers to cutting from the side of the ear, "pierced" refers to a perforated (eared?) one, and "split" refers to a split one.
6.4 [Machine] What is permissible from sacrifices?
Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed sacrificial animals (amongst us for sacrificing them on 'Id al-Adha). So we sacrificed them. There fell to my lot a lamb of less than one year I said: Messenger of Allah, there has fallen to my lot a lamb (Jadha'a), whereupon he said: Sacrifice that. (Using translation from Muslim 1965b)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me a sheep, which I divided among his companions. After dividing it, there was a part left for me, I mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said, "Sacrifice it." Abu Muhammad Al-'Atud Al-Jadai said, "It is a male offspring of the goat."
6.5 [Machine] Al-Badana is about seven and Al-Baqara is about seven.
[Machine] "We sacrificed seventy camels on the day of Hudaybiyah, one after another, on behalf of seven people. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Participate in the offering.'"
[Machine] "We sacrificed the cow with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on behalf of seven individuals." It was said to Abu Muhammad, "Do you assert this?" He said, "Yes."
6.6 [Machine] In the meat of the sacrificial animals.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited eating the meat of sacrificial animals after three days.
[Machine] From Nubayshah, from the Prophet ﷺ who said: "Indeed, we used to prohibit you from eating the meat of sacrificial animals (udhiyah) beyond three days so that it would last you. But Allah has brought abundance, so eat, save, and earn (through selling)."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ had prohibited consuming the meat of sacrificial animals after three days. When the following year came and people were sacrificing their animals, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, if these sacrificial animals were to be distributed among people, would they still be allowed to save some of the meat for later?" He replied, "What would prevent them from doing so on that day?" I then asked, "O Prophet of Allah, were they not prohibited in the first year from eating the meat after three days?" He said, "I had only prohibited them for the people who were present at that time from the dwellers of the outskirts, so that they could distribute the meat amongst themselves. But now, let them eat and save it."
[Machine] "He heard Thawban, the servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him while we were in Mina, 'Fix some meat for us.' So I prepared it for him and he kept eating from it until we reached Madinah."
[Machine] I heard Jabir saying, "We used to supply ourselves from Mecca to Medina during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ." Abu Muhammad said, "By that he means the meat of the sacrificial animals."
6.7 [Machine] In the Sacrifice before the Imam
[Machine] "Then the Prophet ﷺ called him after he prayed, and he mentioned to him what he had done. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Your sheep is in exchange for meat.' He said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have a slaughtered goat that is more beloved to me than two sheep.' He (the Prophet) said, 'Carve it and distribute it as charity, but it will not suffice anyone after you.' Abu Muhammad said, 'It was recited to Muhammad from Sufyan that whoever slaughters after the prayer and the Imam gives the sermon, his sacrifice is accepted.'"
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ should leave and he ordered him to return.

"There is no fara' and no' Atirah." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4222)
[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, we used to sacrifice during the month of Rajab. What do you think?" He said, "There is no problem with that." Waki said, "I will never leave it."
6.9 [Machine] The Sunnah in Aqiqah.
“I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ‘On behalf of a boy, two sheep of equal age and on behalf of a girl one sheep.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3162)
"For a boy there shoud be an 'Aqiqah, so shed blood for him, and remove the harm from him." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4214)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Two sheep which resemble each other are to be sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl. Abu Dawud said: This is a sound tradition, and the tradition narrated by Sufyan is misunderstanding. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2836)
[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "Every newborn is pledged with its sacrificial animal. It is slaughtered on its seventh day, and it is shaved and named." Qatadah used to describe the blood and say: "When the sacrificial animal is slaughtered, a wool is taken and the edges of the animal are wiped with it. Then, it is placed on the forehead of the baby until the blood flows resembling a thin string. After that, the baby's head is washed, and then it is shaved." Affan said: Aban informed us with this hadith and said: Abdullah said, "And I do not consider it obligatory."
6.10 [Machine] In the beauty of the sacrifice.
There are two characteristics that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Allah has decreed that everything should be done in a good way, so when you kill use a good method. The version of the narrators other than Muslim says: "So kill in a good manner." And when you slaughter, you should use a good method, for one of you should sharpen his knife, and give the animal as little pain as possible. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2815)

6.15 [Machine] In animals, when she calls out
My grandfather, Rafiʿ bin Khadij said, "We were in the valley of Dhul-Hulaifa of Tuhama in the company of the Prophet ﷺ and had some camels and sheep (of the booty). The people hurried (in slaughtering the animals) and put their meat in the pots and started cooking. Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and ordered them to upset the pots, and distributed the booty considering one camel as equal to ten sheep. One of the camels fled and the people had only a few horses, so they got worried. (The camel was chased and) a man slopped the camel by throwing an arrow at it. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Some of these animals are untamed like wild animals, so if anyone of them went out of your control, then you should treat it as you have done now.' " My grandfather said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! We fear that we may meet our enemy tomorrow and we have no knives, could we slaughter the animals with reeds?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes, or you can use what would make blood flow (slaughter) and you can eat what is slaughtered and the Name of Allah is mentioned at the time of slaughtering. But don't use teeth or fingernails (in slaughtering). I will tell you why, as for teeth, they are bones, and fingernails are used by Ethiopians for slaughtering.
