It was narrated from Ibrahim and Sa'eed bin Jubair that they did not see anything wrong with renting uncultivated land. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3934)  

الكبرى للنسائي:٤٦٥٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ

عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ «أَنَّهُمَا كَانَا لَا يَرَيَانِ بَأْسًا بِاسْتِئْجَارِ الْأَرْضِ الْبَيْضَاءِ»
