that while he was sitting with Messenger of Allah ﷺ he said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! We get female captives as our share of booty, and we are interested in their prices, what is your opinion about coitus interrupt us?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do you really do that? It is better for you not to do it. No soul that which Allah has destined to exist, but will surely come into existence. (Using translation from Bukhārī 2229)   

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ بَيْنَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا نُصِيبُ سَبْيًا فَنُحِبُّ الْأَثْمَانَ فَكَيْفَ تَرَى فِي الْعَزْلِ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَوَ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَفْعَلُونَ ذَلِكُمْ؟ لَا عَلَيْكُمْ أَلَّا تَفْعَلُوا ذَلِكُمْ فَإِنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ نَسَمَةٌ كَتَبَ اللهُ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ إِلَّا هِيَ خَارِجَةٌ»

0 Abu Sa'id, did you hear Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioning al-'azl? He said: Yes, and added: We went out with Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the expedition to the Bi'l-Mustaliq and took captive some excellent Arab women; and we desired them, for we were suffering from the absence of our wives, (but at the same time) we also desired ransom for them. So we decided to have sexual intercourse with them but by observing 'azl (Withdrawing the male sexual organ before emission of semen to avoid-conception). But we said: We are doing an act whereas Messenger of Allah is amongst us; why not ask him? So we asked Allah's Mes- senger ﷺ, and he said: It does not matter if you do not do it, for every soul that is to be born up to the Day of Resurrection will be born. (Using translation from Muslim 1438a)  

دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَأَبُو صِرْمَةَ عَلَى أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ فَسَأَلَهُ أَبُو صِرْمَةَ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ هَلْ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَذْكُرُ الْعَزْلَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ غَزْوَةَ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ فَسَبَيْنَا كَرَائِمَ الْعَرَبِ فَطَالَتْ عَلَيْنَا الْعُزْبَةُ وَرَغِبْنَا فِي النِّسَاءِ فَأَرَدْنَا أَنْ نَسْتَمْتِعَ وَنَعْزِلَ فَقُلْنَا نَفْعَلُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِنَا لَا نَسْأَلُهُ فَسَأَلْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «لَا عَلَيْكُمْ أَلَّا تَفْعَلُوا مَا كَتَبَ اللهُ خَلَقَ نَسَمَةً هِيَ كَائِنَةٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ إِلَّا سَتَكُونُ»  

[Machine] I and Abu Sirmah entered upon Abu Sa'id al-Khudri and asked him about divorce. Abu Sa'id said, "We stealthily entered upon the women of Bani al-Mustaliq and we intended to divorce them. So some of us said to others, 'Would you divorce them while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is among us and you do not ask him?' So we said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we stealthily entered upon the noble women of the Arabs, the women of Bani al-Mustaliq, and we intended to divorce them. We desire redemption.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'No problem if you do not do it, for there is no soul that Allah has decreed will exist until the Day of Resurrection but it will come into existence.'" Abdullah bin Shu'aib bin al-Laith reported to us from my father who reported from my grandfather that Ibn Ayyub reported to me from Uqail who reported from Ibn Shihab who reported from Abu Muhriz who reported from Abu Sa'id in a similar way.  

دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَأَبُو صِرْمَةَ عَلَى أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ فَسَأَلْنَاهُ عَنِ الْعَزْلِ فَقَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ أَسَرْنَا نِسَاءَ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ فَأَرَدْنَا أَنْ نَعْزِلَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُنَا لِبَعْضٍ تَعْزِلُونَ وَفِيكُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا تَسْأَلُونَهُ؟ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَسَرْنَا كَرَائِمَ الْعَرَبِ أَسَرْنَا نِسَاءَ بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ وَأَرَدْنَا أَنْ نَعْزِلَ وَرَغِبْنَا فِي الْفِدَاءِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا عَلَيْكُمْ أَلَّا تَفْعَلُوا فَإِنَّهُ مَا مِنْ نَسَمَةٍ كَتَبَ اللهُ عَلَيْهَا أَنْ تَكُونَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ إِلَّا وَهِيَ كَائِنَةٌ» 5028 أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ اللَّيْثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ جَدِّي قَالَ ابْنُ أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُحَيْرِيزٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ نَحْوَهُ  

[Machine] Have you heard anything from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about isolation? He said, "Yes." We asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about isolation, and he said, "What is it?" We said, "It is when a man has a breastfeeding woman, and he dislikes her becoming pregnant, so he separates from her. Or when he has a slave girl who has no other wealth except him, and he contracts a disease from her, so he dislikes that she becomes pregnant, so he separates from her." So he said, "Do not do that, as it is a matter of fate."  

سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْعَزْلِ شَيْئًا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ سَأَلْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْعَزْلِ فَقَالَ «وَمَا هُوَ؟» فَقُلْنَا الرَّجُلُ تَكُونُ لَهُ الْمَرْأَةُ الْمُرْضِعُ فَيَكْرَهُ أَنْ تَحْمِلَ فَيَعْزِلُ عَنْهَا أَوْ تَكُونُ الْجَارِيَةُ لَهُ لَيْسَ لَهُ مَالٌ غَيْرَهَا فَيُصِيبُ مِنْهَا فَيَكْرَهُ أَنْ تَحْمِلَ فَيَعْزِلَ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ «لَا عَلَيْكُمْ أَلَّا تَفْعَلُوا ذَلِكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ الْقَدَرُ»  

[Machine] We said, 'O Messenger of Allah! If a man has a wife and she breastfeeds him and he dislikes her and a slave girl and he dislikes her and both of them do not want to become pregnant, what should they do?' He said, 'There is no harm if they do not do that, for that is only fate.'  

قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ الرَّجُلُ تَكُونُ عِنْدَهُ الْمَرْأَةُ تُرْضِعُ فَيُصِيبُ مِنْهَا فَيَكْرَهُ أَنْ تَحْمِلَ وَتَكُونُ عِنْدَهُ الْجَارِيَةُ فَيُصِيبُ مِنْهَا وَيَكْرَهُ أَنْ تَحْمِلَ فَيَعْزِلَ عَنْهَا قَالَ «لَا عَلَيْكُمْ أَلَّا تَفْعَلُوا فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ الْقَدَرُ»
