"The Messenger of Allah said to me: 'Read the Qur'an in a month.' I said: 'I am able to do more than that. ' And I kept asking him until he said: 'In five days.' And he said: 'Fast three days a month.' I said: 'I am able to do more than that.' And 'Observe thhe most beloved of fasting to Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, the fast one day and not the next." (Suahih).  

لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اقْرَإِ الْقُرْآنَ فِي شَهْرٍ قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَطْلُبُ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى قَالَ فِي خَمْسَةِ أَيَّامٍ وَقَالَ صُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَطْلُبُ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى قَالَ صُمْ أَحَبَّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللَّهِ ﷻ صَوْمَ دَاوُدَ كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا  

[Machine] About the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that he said: "Fast for three days of the month." He (someone) said, "Can I handle more than that?" He (the Prophet) said, "Then fast one day and break the fast one day." He (someone) said, "Should I read the Quran every month?" He (the Prophet) said, "Can I handle more than that?" He (someone) said, "Then read the Quran every three days."  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ صُمْ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ قَالَ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ فَمَا زَالَ حَتَّى قَالَ صُمْ يَوْمًا وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ لَهُ اقْرَأ الْقُرْآنَ فِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ قَالَ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ فَمَا زَالَ حَتَّى قَالَ اقْرَأ الْقُرْآنَ فِي كُلِّ ثَلَاثٍ  

"The Messenger of Allah said to me: 'Read the Qur'an in a month.' I said: 'I am able to do more than that. ' And I kept asking him until he said: 'In five days.' قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اقْرَأِ الْقُرْآنَ فِي شَهْرٍ» قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَطْلُبُ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى قَالَ «فِي خَمْسَةِ أَيَّامٍ» وَقَالَ «صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ» قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَطْلُبُ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى قَالَ لِي «صُمْ أَحَبَّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللهِ صَوْمَ دَاوُدَ كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا»  

The Prophet ﷺ said (to ʿAbdullah), "Fast three days a month." ʿAbdullah said, (to the Prophet) "I am able to fast more than that." They kept on arguing on this matter till the Prophet ﷺ said, "Fast on alternate days, and recite the whole Qur'an once a month." ʿAbdullah said, "I can recite more (in a month)," and the argument went on till the Prophet ﷺ said, "Recite the Qur'an once each three days." (i.e. you must not recite the whole Qur'an in less than three days). (Using translation from Bukhārī 1978)
