10.157 The staying of the Imam at his Musalla (praying place) after (finishing the prayer with) Taslim

١٠۔١٥٧ باب مُكْثِ الإِمَامِ فِي مُصَلاَّهُ بَعْدَ السَّلاَمِ

bukhari:848Lanā Ādam > Shuʿbah > Ayyūb > Nāfiʿ

Ibn Umar used to offer prayers (Nawafil) at the place where he had offered the compulsory prayer. Al-Qasim (bin Muhammad bin Abi Bakr) did the same.

The narration coming from Abu Hurairah (from the Prophet ﷺ) forbidding the Imam from offering prayers (optional prayer) at the same place where he was offered the compulsory prayer is incorrect.

البخاري:٨٤٨وَقَالَ لَنَا آدَمُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ

قَالَ كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يُصَلِّي فِي مَكَانِهِ الَّذِي صَلَّى فِيهِ الْفَرِيضَةَ وَفَعَلَهُ الْقَاسِمُ

وَيُذْكَرُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَفَعَهُ لاَ يَتَطَوَّعُ الإِمَامُ فِي مَكَانِهِ وَلَمْ يَصِحَّ

The Prophet stayed in his place briefly after taslim so women could first leave

The Prophet ﷺ, when he did taslim (ended the prayer), he would remain in his place ˹and not turn around˺ for a short while.

Ibn Shihāb said: We think, and Allah knows best, that this was so that the women who wished to leave could depart.

Ibn Abu Maryam said: Nāfiʿ ibn Yazīd informed us; he said: Jaʿfar ibn Rabīʿah informed me that Ibn Shihāb wrote to him, saying: Hind bt. al-Ḥārith al-Firāsiyyah told me, from Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and she was among her female companions, that she said: He would do the taslim ˹and not turn around˺, then the women would leave and enter their houses before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left.

Ibn Wahb related, from Yūnus, from Ibn Shihāb: Hind al-Firāsiyyah informed me. And ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar said: Yūnus informed us, from al-Zuhrī: Hind al-Firāsiyyah told me.

al-Zubaydī said: al-Zuhrī informed me that Hind bt. al-Ḥārith al-Qurashiyyah informed him; she was married to Maʿbad b. al-Miqdād, an ally of Banū Zuhrah, and she used to visit the wives of the Prophet ﷺ.

Shuʿayb related, from al-Zuhrī: Hind al-Qurashiyyah told me. And Ibn Abī ʿAtīq related, from al-Zuhrī, from Hind al-Firāsiyyah.

Al-Layth said: Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd told me, reporting it from Ibn Shihāb, from a woman of Quraysh, who narrated it from the Prophet ﷺ.

البخاري:٨٤٩حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ هِنْدٍ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ، يَمْكُثُ فِي مَكَانِهِ يَسِيرًا.

قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ: فَنُرَى، وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ، لِكَيْ يَنْفُذَ مَنْ يَنْصَرِفُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ.

وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ: أَخْبَرَنَا نَافِعُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، أَنَّ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ كَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي هِنْدُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ الْفِرَاسِيَّةُ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، وَكَانَتْ مِنْ صَوَاحِبَاتِهَا، قَالَتْ: كَانَ يُسَلِّمُ، فَيَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ، فَيَدْخُلْنَ بُيُوتَهُنَّ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَنْصَرِفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ.

وَقَالَ ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ: أَخْبَرَتْنِي هِنْدُ الْفِرَاسِيَّةُ. وَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ: أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ: حَدَّثَتْنِي هِنْدُ الْفِرَاسِيَّةُ.

وَقَالَ الزُّبَيْدِيُّ: أَخْبَرَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ، أَنَّ هِنْدَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ الْقُرَشِيَّةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ، وَكَانَتْ تَحْتَ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ الْمِقْدَادِ، وَهُوَ حَلِيفُ بَنِي زُهْرَةَ، وَكَانَتْ تَدْخُلُ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ.

وَقَالَ شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ: حَدَّثَتْنِي هِنْدُ الْقُرَشِيَّةُ. وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عَتِيقٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ هِنْدٍ الْفِرَاسِيَّةِ.

وَقَالَ اللَّيْثُ: حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَهُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ، حَدَّثَتْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ.
