Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to offer the Fajr prayer and some believing women covered with their veiling sheets used to attend the Fajr prayer with him and then they would return to their homes unrecognized .

لَقَدْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الْفَجْرَ فَيَشْهَدُ مَعَهُ نِسَاءٌ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ فِي مُرُوطِهِنَّ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعْنَ إِلَى بُيُوتِهِنَّ مَا يَعْرِفُهُنَّ أَحَدٌ

The believing women covered with their veiling sheets used to attend the Fajr prayer with Allah's Apostle, and after finishing the prayer they would return to their home and nobody could recognize them because of darkness.

كُنَّ نِسَاءُ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَشْهَدْنَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةَ الْفَجْرِ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ ثُمَّ يَنْقَلِبْنَ إِلَى بُيُوتِهِنَّ حِينَ يَقْضِينَ الصَّلاَةَ لاَ يَعْرِفُهُنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

When Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the Fajr prayer, the women would leave covered in their sheets and were not recognized owing to the darkness.

إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to offer the Fajr prayer when it was still dark and the believing women used to return (after finishing their prayer) and nobody could recognize them owing to darkness, or they could not recognize one another.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ بِغَلَسٍ فَيَنْصَرِفْنَ نِسَاءُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لاَ يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ أَوْ لاَ يَعْرِفُ بَعْضُهُنَّ بَعْضًا

The believing women used to pray the morning prayer with the Messenger of Allah and then return wrapped in their mantles. No one could recognise them.

أَنَّ نِسَاءَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ كُنَّ يُصَلِّينَ الصُّبْحَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعْنَ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ لاَ يَعْرِفُهُنَّ أَحَدٌ

The believing women observed the morning prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrapped in their mantles. They then went back to their houses and were unrecognisable, because of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ praying in the darkness before dawn.

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ لَقَدْ كَانَ نِسَاءٌ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَشْهَدْنَ الْفَجْرَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ ثُمَّ يَنْقَلِبْنَ إِلَى بُيُوتِهِنَّ وَمَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنْ تَغْلِيسِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالصَّلاَةِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to observe the morning prayer, and the women would go back wrapped in their mantles being unrecognisable because of the darkness before dawn. (Ishaq b. Musa) al-Ansari (one of the transmitters in this chain of narration) narrated" wrapped" (only) in his narration. (No mention was made of mantles.)

إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ وَقَالَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ مُتَلَفِّفَاتٍ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say the Fajr prayer after which the women would depart wrapped up their woolen garments, being unrecognizable because of the darkness before dawn.

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

"Messenger of Allah would pray Subh (at such time that) the women would leave (after the prayer)" - AI-AnsarI (one of the narrators) said - the women would pass by wrapped in their Mirts and they would not be recognizable due to the darkness." And Qutaibah said: "covered." (instead of "wrapped.")

إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ قَالَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ فَيَمُرُّ النِّسَاءُ مُتَلَفِّفَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ وَقَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ وَأَنَسٍ وَقَيْلَةَ بِنْتِ مَخْرَمَةَ

"When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has prayed Subh, the women would depart, wrapped in their wrappers, unrecognizable because of the darkness."

إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

"The women used to pray Subh with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, wrapped in their wrappers, then they would return, and no one would recognize them because of the darkness."

كُنَّ النِّسَاءُ يُصَلِّينَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الصُّبْحَ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ فَيَرْجِعْنَ فَمَا يَعْرِفْهُنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

"Women used to pray fajr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and when he said the taslim they would leave, wrapped in their Mirts, unrecognizable because of the darkness."

كَانَ النِّسَاءُ يُصَلِّينَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْفَجْرَ فَكَانَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ انْصَرَفْنَ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ فَلاَ يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

"The believing women used to perform the Subh prayer with the Prophet, then they would go back to their families and no one would recognize them," meaning of the darkness.

كُنَّ نِسَاءُ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يُصَلِّينَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ صَلاَةَ الصُّبْحِ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعْنَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِنَّ فَلاَ يَعْرِفُهُنَّ أَحَدٌ تَعْنِي مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

[AI] The wives of the Prophet ﷺ used to pray Fajr prayer with the Prophet ﷺ and then they would return home covered with their outer garments before being recognized.

«كُنَّ نِسَاءُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يُصَلِّينَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ الْفَجْرَ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعْنَ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُعْرَفْنَ»

[AI] Women used to pray with the Prophet ﷺ , then they would leave covering themselves with their clothes in such a way that they could not be recognized.

كُنَّ النِّسَاءُ يُصَلِّينَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثُمَّ يَخْرُجْنَ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ لَا يُعْرَفْنَ

"The women used to pray Subh with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, wrapped in their wrappers, then they would return, and no one would recognize them because of the darkness." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 546)

أَنَّ نِسَاءً مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ كُنَّ يُصَلِّينَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الصُّبْحَ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعْنَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِنَّ وَمَا يَعْرِفُهُنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٌ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

[AI] "Indeed, there were women from among the believers who used to witness with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the Fajr (morning) prayer, and then they would return to their homes wrapped in their cloaks, with their faces covered, so as not to be recognized."

أَنَّ نِسَاءً مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ كُنَّ يَشْهَدْنَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الصُّبْحَ ثُمَّ يَنْقَلِبْنَ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ إِلَى بُيُوتِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray Fajr (morning prayer) and then the believing women would leave wrapped in their outer garments, concealing themselves with what is known as a "ghalas" or, some of them do not recognize others.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ نِسَاءُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ أَوْ قَالَ لَا يَعْرِفُ بَعْضُهُنَّ بَعْضًا

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said from Amra bint Abd ar-Rahman that A'isha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray subh and the women would leave wrapped in their garments and they could not yet be recognised in the darkness."

إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Sumayy, the mawla of Abu Bakr, from Abu Bakr ibn Abd ar-Rahman that A'isha and Umm Salama, the wives of the Prophet ﷺ said, "The Messengerof Allah ﷺ used to get up in the morning junub from intercourse, not a dream, and would then fast."

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ وَأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَىِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُمَا قَالَتَا إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيُصْبِحُ جُنُبًا مِنْ جِمَاعٍ غَيْرِ احْتِلاَمٍ ثُمَّ يَصُومُ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say the Fajr prayer after which the women would depart wrapped up their woolen garments, being unrecognizable because of the darkness before dawn. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 423)

«إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ»

[AI] She said, "There were indeed women among the believers who used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, covered in their outer garments, during the Fajr (dawn) prayer. Then they would return to their homes without being recognized due to their simplicity."

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ «قَدْ كُنَّ نِسَاءٌ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يُصَلِّينَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعْنَ إِلَى بُيُوتِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray the Fajr prayer, and then the believing women would exit covered in their veils, and it could not be recognized who they were due to the darkness."

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ ثُمَّ تَخْرُجُ نِسَاءُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ لَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ»

[AI] Narrated by al-Qa'nabiyyu, from Malik, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from 'Amrah, from 'A'ishah who said: "If the Prophet ﷺ used to pray the morning prayer, the women would leave covered in their cloaks, not recognized from the darkness."

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَمْرَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ «إِنْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِيُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ»

[AI] Be women who witness the Prophet's ﷺ Fajr prayer, then they depart while covering themselves with their outer garments so that they may be recognized from the people of Al-Ghalas.

كُنَّ نِسَاءٌ يَشْهَدْنَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ فَيَنْصَرِفْنَ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ فِي مُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

[AI] Be women who believe, who pray along with the Messenger of Allah, wearing their designated attire, then return to their families, as no one knows them [as he does].

كُنَّ نِسَاءٌ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يُصَلِّينَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعْنَ إِلَى أَهْلِيهِنَّ وَمَا يَعْرِفُهُنَّ أَحَدٌ

[AI] If the messenger of Allah ﷺ were to pray the morning prayer, the women would then disperse, covered in their outer garments, so as not to be recognized due to the darkness.

إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِيُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفْنَ النِّسَاءُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ مَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray Fajr prayer and then depart while the believing women would cover themselves with their veils so that they would not be recognized from the jilbab.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَيَنْصَرِفُ وَنِسَاءُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ لَا يُعْرَفْنَ مِنَ الْغَلَسِ

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ لَقَدْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ فَيَشْهَدُهَا مَعَهُ النِّسَاءُ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعْنَ إِلَى بُيُوتِهِنَّ وَمَا يَعْرِفُهُنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ

"عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ وَتَنْصَرِفُ النِّسَاءُ المْؤُمِنَاتُ مُتَلَفِّعَاتٍ بِمُرُوطِهِنَّ لَا يُعْرَفْنَ، وَلَا يَعْرِفُ بَعْضُهُنَّ بَعْضًا مِنَ الغَلَسِ".

"كن نساء يشهدن مع رسول الله ﷺ صلاة الصبح فينصرفن متلفعات بمروطهن ما يعرفن من الغلس".
