5.1 [Machine] The evidence for the validity of prayer of fear and that it is not abrogated

٥۔١ بَابُ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى ثُبُوتِ صَلَاةِ الْخَوْفِ وَأَنَّهَا لَمْ تُنْسَخُ

[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the trench, and we were occupied from performing prayers. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered Bilal to establish each prayer, and that was before the verse {So if you fear, then prayer on foot or riding} [Al-Baqarah 2:239] was revealed to him.  

البيهقي:٦٠٠٥أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فُورَكٍ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ فَشُغِلْنَا عَنْ صَلَوَاتٍ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِلَالًا فَأَقَامَ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ إِقَامَةً وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ {فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ فَرِجَالًا أَوْ رُكْبَانًا} [البقرة 239]

[Machine] I was with Sa'id ibn al-'As in Tabaristan, and he had some companions of the Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ with him. Sa'id asked them, "Which one of you witnessed the Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ leading the prayer of fear?" Huzaifa replied, "I know about your companions. Have half of them stand to face the enemy, while the other half stands behind you. You will then say the takbeer and they will say the takbeer with you. You will bow and they will bow with you. You will raise your head and they will raise their heads with you. Then you will prostrate and the group behind you will prostrate. When you raise your head from prostration, the group following you will stand up and the others will prostrate. Then you will bow and they will bow with you. You will raise your head and they will raise their heads with you. You will prostrate and the group following you will prostrate. The other group will stand to face the enemy. When you raise your head from prostration, those who are facing the enemy will prostrate. Then you will give them the salutation and command your companions that if they are attacked, then they are allowed to fight and speak."  

البيهقي:٦٠٠٦أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ سُلَيْمِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ السَّلُولِيِّ قَالَ

كُنْتُ مَعَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ بِطَبَرِسْتَانَ وَكَانَ مَعَهُ نَفَرٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ سَعِيدٌ أَيُّكُمْ شَهِدَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ أَنَا مُرْ أَصْحَابَكَ فَلْيَقُومُوا طَائِفَتَيْنِ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ بِإِزَاءِ الْعَدُوِّ وَطَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ خَلْفَكَ فَتُكَبِّرُ وَيُكَبِّرُونَ جَمِيعًا وَتَرْكَعُ وَيَرْكَعُونَ جَمِيعًا وَتُرْفَعُ وَيَرْفَعُونَ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ تَسْجُدُ وَتَسْجُدُ الطَّائِفَةُ الَّتِي تَلِيكَ وَتَقُومُ الطَّائِفَةُ الْأُخْرَى بِإِزَاءِ الْعَدُوِّ فَإِذَا رَفَعْتَ رَأْسَكَ قَامَ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَكَ وَخَرَّ الْأَخَرُونَ سُجَّدًا ثُمَّ تَرْكَعُ وَيَرْكَعُونَ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ تَرْفَعُ وَيَرْفَعُونَ جَمِيعًا وَتَسْجُدُ فَتَسْجُدُ الطَّائِفَةُ الَّتِي تَلِيكَ وَالطَّائِفَةُ الْأُخْرَى قَائِمَةٌ بِإِزَاءِ الْعَدُوِّ فَإِذَا رَفَعْتَ رَأْسَكَ مِنَ السُّجُودِ سَجَدَ الَّذِينَ بِإِزَاءِ الْعَدُوِّ ثُمَّ تُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَتَأْمُرُ أَصْحَابَكَ إِنْ هَاجَهُمْ هَيْجٌ فَقَدْ حَلَّ لَهُمُ الْقِتَالُ وَالْكَلَامِ

[Machine] My father informed me that they raided with Abdur Rahman ibn Samurah in Kabul, then he prayed the prayer of fear with us.

أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي أَنَّهُمْ غَزَوْا مَعَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ كَابُلَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ

[Machine] Abu Musa al-Ash'ari led us in the prayer of fear in Isfahan. It is narrated by Hattan al-Raqashi from Abu Musa that he performed the prayer of fear. It is also mentioned that Ja'far ibn Muhammad narrated from his father that Ali performed the prayer of fear at Maghrib during the night of Hareer. We have also heard from Sahl ibn Abi Hathma that he taught them the prayer of fear. Ibn Umar, when asked about the prayer of fear and its description, said that no one among them attributed its specification to the Prophet ﷺ or that it was abandoned. Rather, each one of them narrated it and believed that it was permissible according to the description they narrated. And with Allah is the facilitation.  

البيهقي:٦٠٠٨وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْفَقِيهُ أنبأ أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ حَيَّانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْحَمَّالُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُقَاتِلٍ ثنا حَكَّامٌ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيِّ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ قَالَ

صَلَّى بِنَا أَبُو مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيُّ ؓ بأَصْبَهَانَ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ وَرَوَى حَطَّانُ الرَّقَاشِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى أَنَّهُ صَلَّى صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ وَيُذْكَرُ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا ؓ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ لَيْلَةَ الْهَرِيرِ وَرُوِّينَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ أَنَّهُ عَلَّمَهُمْ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا سُئِلَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ الْخَوْفِ وَصَفَهَا وَالَّذِينَ رَوَوْهَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لَمْ يَحْمِلْهَا أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ عَلَى تَخْصِيصِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِهَا أَوْ عَلَى أَنَّهَا تُرِكَتْ بَلْ رَوَاهَا كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ وَهُوَ يَعْتَقِدُ جَوَازَهَا عَلَى الصِّفَةِ الَّتِي رَوَاهَا وَبِاللهِ التَّوْفِيقُ
