I wore this ring and kept its stone towards the inner side. He then threw it away, and said: By Allah, I will never wear it; so the people threw their rings away. (Using translation from Muslim 2091a)  

أحمد:٦٠٠٧حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ حَدَّثَنَا نَافِعٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ اصْطَنَعَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَكَانَ يَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ كَفِّهِ إِذَا لَبِسَهُ فَصَنَعَ النَّاسُ ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ جَلَسَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَنَزَعَهُ فَقَالَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَلْبَسُ هَذَا الْخَاتَمَ وَأَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ مِنْ دَاخِلٍ فَرَمَى بِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَاللهِ لَا أَلْبَسُهُ أَبَدًا فَنَبَذَالنَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a gold ring made for himself, and he used to wear it with the stone towards the inner part of his hand. Consequently, the people had similar rings made for themselves. Afterwards the Prophet; sat on the pulpit and took it off, saying, "I used to wear this ring and keep its stone towards the palm of my hand." He then threw it away and said, "By Allah, I will never wear it." Therefore all the people threw away their rings as well.  

البخاري:٦٦٥١حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ

The Messenger of Allah [SAW] had a ring made of gold and he used to wear it with the stone (Fass) against his palm, and the people did likewise. Then he sat on the Minbar and said: "I used to wear this ring and put its stone (Fass) on the inside." Then he threw it away and said: "By Allah, I will never wear it again." And the people threw their rings away.  

النسائي:٥٢٩٠أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took a ring made of gold and made its gem from the inside. He said, while he was delivering a sermon one day, "I had made a ring and used to wear it, with its gem on the inside. By Allah, from now on I will never wear it." So he threw it away, and the people also threw away their rings.
