ahmad-zuhd:1085ʿAbdullāh > Muḥammad b. Bakkār Abū ʿAbdullāh a freed slave of Banī Hāshim > Faraj b. Faḍālah > Asad b. And Dāʿah > Shaddād b. Aws

[Machine] As if it were a wheat grain on a pan, and he used to say, "O Allah, the fire has prevented me from sleeping." Then he would stand up for prayer.  

الزهد لأحمد:١٠٨٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا فَرَجُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ عَنْ أَسَدِ بْنِ وَدَاعَةَ عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ قَالَ كَانَ إِذَا دَخَلَ فِرَاشَهُ فَكَانَ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ

كَأَنَّهُ حَبَّةُ الْقَمْحِ عَلَى الْمِقْلَى وَكَانَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ النَّارَ مَنَعَتْنِي النَّوْمَ قَالَ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ
