29. Virtue of Abū Hurayrah (2/2)

٢٩۔ فِي فَضْلِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى ص ٢

ahmad-zuhd:881ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > Ismāʿīl b. Abū Khālid > ʿImrān b. Abū al-Jaʿd Wamisʿar > Maʿn b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman

[Machine] Abdullah said, "Indeed, people have excelled in their words, but whoever aligns his words with his actions, that is the one who has achieved his share. And whoever goes against his words with his actions, then he is only reproaching himself."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٨١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ وَمِسْعَرٍ عَنْ مَعْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ أَحْسَنُوا الْقَوْلَ كُلُّهُمُ فَمَنْ وَافَقَ قَوْلُهُ فِعْلَهُ فَذَاكَ الَّذِي أَصَابَ حَظَّهُ وَمَنْ خَالَفَ قَوْلُهُ فِعْلَهُ فَإِنَّمَا يُوَبِّخُ نَفْسَهُ  

ahmad-zuhd:882ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > al-Masʿūdī > Abū Yaḥyá > al-Qāsim

[Machine] Ibn Mas'ood used to say in his supplication while fearful, seeking refuge, pitiful, seeking forgiveness, desiring and fearing.  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٨٢حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ

أَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي دُعَائِهِ خَائِفًا مُسْتَجِيرًا بَائِسًا مُسْتَغْفِرًا رَاغِبًا رَاهِبًا  

ahmad-zuhd:883ʿAbdullāh from my father > ʿAbdullāh b. Numayr > Mālik b. Mighwal

[Machine] Abdullah said, "The world is the home of those who have no home, and it is the wealth of those who have no wealth. And it is where those who have no intelligence gather."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٨٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ مِغْوَلٍ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ الدُّنْيَا دَارُ مَنْ لَا دَارَ لَهُ وَمَالُ مَنْ لَا مَالَ لَهُ وَلَهَا يَجْمَعُ مَنْ لَا عَقْلَ لَهُ  

ahmad-zuhd:884ʿAbdullāh from my father > Rawḥ > Hishām b. Abū ʿAbdullāh > Qatādah > Ibn Masʿūd Law Annī Bayn al-Jannah And al-Nnār Fakhuyyirt Bayn Qabūl ʿAmalī Wabayn > Lā Akūn Shayʾ Lākhtart

[Machine] That I am nothing.  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٨٤حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ لَوْ أَنِّي بَيْنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ فَخُيِّرْتُ بَيْنَ قَبُولِ عَمَلِي وَبَيْنَ أَنْ لَا أَكُونَ شَيْئًا لَاخْتَرْتُ

أَنْ لَا أَكُونَ شَيْئًا  

ahmad-zuhd:885ʿAbdullāh > Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. Ayyūb > Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh > al-Aʿmash > Abū Wāʾil > ʿAbdullāh

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'When Allah wills good for a person, He causes him to understand the religion.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 220)   

الزهد لأحمد:٨٨٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ يُرِدِ اللَّهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ وَيُلْهِمْهُ رُشْدَهُ  

ahmad-zuhd:886ʿAbdullāh from my father > Ḥajjāj > al-Masʿūdī > al-Qāsim And Ghayrih > ʿAbdullāh

[Machine] He used to say, "Speak good to be known by it, and act upon it to become one of its people, and do not be hasty in scattering mischief."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٨٦حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ وَغَيْرِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ قُولُوا الْخَيْرَ تُعْرَفُوا بِهِ وَاعْمَلُوا بِهِ تَكُونُوا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَلَا تَكُونُوا عَجِلًا مَذَايِعَ بِذْرًا  

ahmad-zuhd:887ʿAbdullāh from my father > Sulaymān b. Dāwud > Shuʿbah > Sayyār > al-Shaʿbī

[Machine] Abdullah in his sermon and indeed the one who is deprived is the one who fights against his own religion.  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٨٧حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سَيَّارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الشَّعْبِيَّ يَقُولُ قَالَ

عَبْدُ اللَّهِ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ وَإِنَّ الْمَحْرُوبَ مَنْ حُرِبَ دِينَهُ  

ahmad-zuhd:888ʿAbdullāh from my father > Sufyān

[Machine] You laugh at a funeral, I will never talk to you again.  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٨٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ سَمِعَهُ مِنْ شَيْخٍ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْسٍ أَبْصَرَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ رَجُلًا يَضْحَكُ فِي جِنَازَةٍ فَقَالَ

تَضْحَكُ فِي جِنَازَةٍ لَا أُكَلِّمُكَ أَبَدًا  

ahmad-zuhd:889ʿAbdullāh from my father > ʿAbdullāh b. Yazīd > Saʿīd > ʿAbdullāh b. al-Walīd > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Ḥujayrah from his father > Ibn Masʿūd

[Machine] He used to say, when he sat down, he meant to say, "You are in a limited time in the day and night, in short lives and preserved actions, and death comes suddenly. So whoever sows good will soon reap desire; and whoever sows evil will soon reap regret. And for every sower is like the one who sows. There is no delay in his fortune, nor can an eager person catch up with what is not destined for him. So whoever is given good, Allah has given it to him, and whoever is protected from evil, Allah has protected him. The pious are leaders, and the scholars are guides, and their assemblies are blessings."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٨٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ حُجَيْرَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ إِذَا قَعَدَ يَعْنِي يَقُولُ إِنَّكُمْ فِي مَمَرِّ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ فِي آجَالٍ مُنْتَقَصَةٍ وَأَعْمَالٍ مَحْفُوظَةٍ وَالْمَوْتُ يَأْتِي بَغْتَةً فَمَنْ يَزْرَعْ خَيْرًا يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَحْصُدَ رَغْبَةً وَمَنْ زَرَعَ شَرًّا فَيُوشِكُ أَنْ يَحْصُدَ نَدَامَةً وَلِكُلِّ زَارِعٍ مِثْلُ الَّذِي زَرَعَ لَا يَسْبِقُ بَطِئٌ بِحَظِّهِ وَلَا يُدْرَكُ حَرِيصٌ مَا لَمْ يُقَدَّرْ لَهُ فَمَنْ أُعْطِيَ خَيْرًا فَاللَّهُ أَعْطَاهُ وَمَنْ وُقِيَ شَرًّا فَاللَّهُ وَقَاهُ الْمُتَّقُونَ سَادَةٌ وَالْفُقَهَاءُ قَادَةٌ وَمَجَالِسُهُمْ زِيَادَةٌ  

ahmad-zuhd:890ʿAbdullāh > Wahbb. Baqiyyah al-Wāsiṭī > Khālid b. ʿAbdullāh al-Wāsiṭī > Abū Sinān / Ḍirār b. Murrah > Abū Wāʾil > Ibn Masʿūd

[Machine] Indeed, Allah calls upon His servant on the Day of Judgment and covers him with His hands. He asks him, "Do you recognize (Me)?" And he replies, "Yes, my Lord." Then Allah says, "Indeed, I have forgiven you (your sins)."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٩٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْوَاسِطِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي سِنَانٍ يَعْنِي ضِرَارَ بْنَ مُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ

إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ لَيَدْعُو الْعَبْدَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَيَسْتُرُهُ بِيَدَيْهِ؛ يَقُولُ لَهُ أَتَعْرِفُ؟ فَيَقُولُ نَعَمْ يَا رَبِّ فَيَقُولُ إِنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُهَا لَكَ  

ahmad-zuhd:891ʿAbdullāh from my father > Muḥammad b. ʿUbayd > Hārūn / Ibn > Barah > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. al-Aswad from his father > ʿAbdullāh

[Machine] Indeed, these hearts are vessels, so fill them with the Qur'an and do not occupy them with anything else.  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٩١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَنْبَرَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ

إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْقُلُوبَ أَوْعِيَةٌ فَاشْغِلُوهَا بِالْقُرْآنِ وَلَا تُشْغِلُوهَا بِغَيْرِهِ  

ahmad-zuhd:892ʿAbdullāh from my father > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Muḥammad al-Muḥāribī > Mālik b. Mighwal > Abū Yaʿfūr > al-Musayyab b. Ibrāhīm > ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd > Yanbaghī Liḥāmil al-Qurān

[Machine] It should be known about his night when people are sleeping, and about his day when people are breaking their fast, and about his sadness when people are rejoicing, and about his weeping when people are laughing, and about his silence when people are making mistakes, and about his humility when people are being arrogant. It is appropriate for the carrier of the Quran to be a weeper, sad, patient, and calm, and it is not appropriate for the carrier of the Quran to be dry, nor negligent, nor shouty, nor laughing, nor harsh.  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٩٢حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَعْفُورَ عَنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ يَنْبَغِي لِحَامِلِ الْقُرْآنِ

أَنْ يُعْرَفَ بِلَيْلِهِ إِذَا النَّاسُ نَائِمُونَ وَبِنَهَارِهِ إِذَا النَّاسُ مُفْطِرُونَ وبِحُزْنِهِ إِذَا النَّاسُ يَفْرَحُونَ وَبِبُكَائِهِ إِذَا النَّاسُ يَضْحَكُونَ وبِصَمْتِهِ إِذَا النَّاسُ يُخْطِئُونَ وَبِخُشُوعِهِ إِذَا النَّاسُ يَخْتَالُونَ وَيَنْبَغِي لِحَامِلِ الْقُرْآنِ أَنْ يَكُونَ بَاكِيًا مَحْزُونًا حَلِيمًا سَكِينًا وَلَا يَنْبَغِي لِحَامِلِ الْقُرْآنِ أَنْ يَكُونَ جَافِيًا وَلَا غَافِلًا وَلَا صَخَّابًا وَلَا ضَاحِكًا وَلَا حَدِيدًا  

ahmad-zuhd:893ʿAbdullāh from my father > Sufyān b. Wakīʿ from my father > Isrāʾīl > 134 Abū Isḥāq > ʿAmr b. Maymūn > ʿAbdullāh Law Wuʿid Ahl al-Nār

[Machine] "That a day of punishment be eased upon them when they die happily."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٩٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ [134] أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ لَوْ وُعِدَ أَهْلُ النَّارِ

أَنْ تُخَفَّفَ عَنْهُمْ يَوْمًا مِنَ الْعَذَابِ لَمَاتُوا فَرَحًا  

ahmad-zuhd:894ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > al-Aʿmash > Sufyān > Yazīd b. Ḥayyān al-Taymī > ʿĪsá b. ʿUqbah

[Machine] Abdullah said, "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, there is nothing on the surface of the earth more deserving of long imprisonment than the tongue."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٩٤حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ مَا عَلَى ظَهْرِ الْأَرْضِ شَيْءٌ أَحَقُّ لِطُولِ سِجْنٍ مِنْ لِسَانٍ  

ahmad-zuhd:895ʿAbdullāh > Wakīʿ > al-Aʿmash > Ibrāhīm

[Machine] Abdullah said, "Bala' is entrusted with the word."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٩٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ الْبَلَاءُ مُوَكَّلٌ بِالْقَوْلِ  

ahmad-zuhd:896ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > al-Aʿmash > Ḥabīb > Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥman

[Machine] Abdullah said, "Follow and do not innovate, for you have been sufficed from every misguided innovation."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٩٦حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ حَبِيبٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ اتَّبِعُوا وَلَا تَبْتَدِعُوا فَقَدْ كُفِيتُمْ كُلُّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ  

ahmad-zuhd:897ʿAbdullāh from my father > / Wakīʿ > Sufyān > Ḥabīb > ʿAmmār b. ʿUmayr

[Machine] Abdullah said to you with the first direction.  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٩٧حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا يَعْنِي وَكِيعًا عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ حَبِيبٍ عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّمْتِ الْأَوَّلِ  

ahmad-zuhd:898ʿAbdullāh from my father > ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Sufyān And Wakīʿ > Sufyān > Abū Isḥāq > Abū al-Aḥwaṣ > ʿAbdullāh > Biḥasb al-Marʾ from al-Kadhib

[Machine] To speak about everything he heard.  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٩٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ وَوَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ بِحَسْبِ الْمَرْءِ مِنَ الْكَذِبِ

أَنْ يُحَدِّثَ بِكُلِّ مَا سَمِعَ  

ahmad-zuhd:899ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > Sufyān > ʿAmr b. ʿAmr Abū al-Zaʿrāʾ from his uncle Abū al-Aḥwaṣ

[Machine] Abdullah said, "No one is born a scholar, and knowledge is only acquired through learning."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٩٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَمْرٍو أَبُو الزَّعْرَاءِ عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَحَدًا لَا يُوَلَدُ عَالِمًا وَإِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ بِالتَّعَلُّمِ  

ahmad-zuhd:900ʿAbdullāh from my father > Sulaymān b. Ḥayyān Abū Khālid > al-Aʿmash > Shimr b. ʿAṭiyyah > Mughīrah b. Saʿd b. al-Akhram

[Machine] Abdullah passed by the blacksmiths and noticed a newly made iron tool, so he cried.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٠٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ أَبُو خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ شِمْرِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ الْأَخْرَمِ قَالَ

مَرَّ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَلَى الْحَدَّادِينَ فَبَصُرَ بَحَدِيدَةٍ قَدْ أُحْمِيَتْ فَبَكَى  

ahmad-zuhd:901ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > Isrāʾīl > Abū Isḥāq > Abū al-Aḥwaṣ

[Machine] "When there is every joy, there is also some sorrow, and a house filled with ink is also filled with lessons."  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٠١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَعَ كُلِّ فَرْحَةٍ تَرْحَةٌ وَمَا مُلِئَ بَيْتٌ حَبْرَةً إِلَّا مُلِئَ عِبْرَةً  

ahmad-zuhd:902ʿAbdullāh from my father > Muḥammad b. Bishr > Misʿar > Maʿn > ʿAbdullāh In Kul Muʾaddib Yuḥib

[Machine] To receive his discipline and indeed, the discipline of Allah is the Quran.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٠٢حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مَعْنًا قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ إِنَّ كُلَّ مُؤَدِّبٍ يُحِبُّ

أَنْ يُوتَى أَدَبُهُ وَإِنَّ أَدَبَ اللَّهِ الْقُرْآنُ  

ahmad-zuhd:903ʿAbdullāh from my father > Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Malik > Abū ʿAwānah > al-Aswad b. Maysarah > Zaḥr b. Rabīʿah

[Machine] Abdullah said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Abdullah, there is not a soul on the Earth that knows the intensity of Allah's punishment, except that the eyes of that soul will become overcome with fear once it becomes aware of the punishment that has befallen it or if it managed to escape from it. And there is not a soul on the Earth that knows the extent of Allah's mercy, except that it will rejoice and hope to be enveloped in His mercy."  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٠٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ زَحْرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بِيَدِهِ مَا فِي الْأَرْضِ مِنْ نَفْسٍ تَعْلَمُ جَنْبَ عَذَابِ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ شِدَّتُهُ تَرْقَى عَيْنُ تِلْكَ النَّفْسِ الَّتِي قَدْ عَلِمَتْ حَتَّى تَعْلَمَ أَصَابَهَا عَذَابُ اللَّهِ أَوْ نَجَتْ مِنْهُ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ نَفْسٌ تَعْلَمُ جَنْبَ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ سِعَتُهَا إِلَّا اسْتَبْشَرَتْ وَرَجَتْ أَنْ تُصِيبَهَا الرَّحْمَةُ  

ahmad-zuhd:904ʿAbdullāh from my father > Abū ʿUbaydah al-Ḥaddād > al-Mughīrah b. Salm > Saʿīd b. Masrūq

[Machine] Ibn Mas'ud and what surprises you is that you find the believer to be sound in heart and diseased in body, while you find the corrupt and the hypocrite to be sound in body and their hearts are diseased. By Allah, if your bodies were healthy and your hearts were diseased, you would be more insignificant to Allah than the beetle.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٠٤حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ الْحَدَّادُ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ قَدِمَتِ الدَّهَّاقِينُ الْكُوفَةَ عَلَى عَهْدِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَجَعَلُوا يَتَعَجَّبُونَ مِنْ صِحَّتِهِمْ وحُسْنِ أَلْوَانِهِمْ فَقَالَ

ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَمَا تَعْجَبُونَ تَلْقَوْنَ الْمُؤْمِنَ أَصَحَّ شَيْءٍ قَلْبًا وَأَمْرَضَ شَيْءٍ جِسْمًا وَتَلْقَوْنَ الْفَاجِرَ وَالْمُنَافِقَ أَصَحَّ شَيْءٍ جِسْمًا وَأَمْرَضَهُ قَلْبًا وَاللَّهِ لَوْ صَحَّتْ أَجْسَامُكُمْ وَمَرِضَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ لَكُنْتُمْ أَهْوَنَ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنَ الْجُعْلَانِ  

ahmad-zuhd:905ʿAbdullāh from my father > Abū ʿUbaydah > al-Rabīʿ b. Muslim al-Qurashī > Abū ʿUthmān al-ʿIjlī

[Machine] And he used to say, "Enough injustice has been done to the oppressed one, oh oppressed one."  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٠٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ الْعِجْلِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ لَوْ كَانَ الْغَثُّ رَجُلًا لَكَانَ رَجُلَ سُوءٍ قَالَ

وَكَانَ يَقُولُ كَفَى بِالْمَعْكِ ظُلْمًا الْمَعْكُ الْمَطْلُ  

ahmad-zuhd:906ʿAbdullāh from my father > Abū ʿUbaydah > Qarrah b. Khālid > al-Ḍaḥāk

[Machine] Ibn Mas'ud said, "No one wakes up in this world except as a guest, with no possessions. The guest will eventually depart, and the possessions will be returned."  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٠٦حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ حَدَّثَنَا قَرَّةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الضَّحَاكِ قَالَ

قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ مَا أَحَدٌ أَصْبَحَ فِي الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا وَهُوَ ضَيْفٌ وَمَا لَهُ عَارِيَةٌ وَالضَّيْفُ مُرْتَحِلٌ وَالْعَارِيَةُ مَرْدُودَةٌ  

ahmad-zuhd:907ʿAbdullāh from my father > ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Abū ʿAwānah > Hilāl al-Wazzān > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUkaym

[Machine] That he may inform us, so he said, "By Allah, none of you will be alone with his Lord, just as one of you is alone with the full moon on a clear night. Then the son of Adam will say, 'What has deceived you, O son of Adam? What have you answered the messengers, O son of Adam? What have you done with what you knew?'"  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٠٧حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ هِلَالٍ الْوَزَّانِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُكَيْمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فِي هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ بَدَأَ بِالْيَمِينِ قَبْلَ

أَنْ يُحَدِّثَنَا فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا سَيَخْلُو بِهِ رَبُّهُ كَمَا يَخْلُو أَحَدُكُمْ بِالْقَمَرِ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ فَيَقُولُ ابْنَ آدَمَ مَاذَا غَرَّكَ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ؟ مَاذَا أَجَبْتَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ؟ مَاذَا عَمِلْتَ فِيمَا عَلِمْتَ
