30. ʿĀʾishah ؓ

٣٠۔ زُهْدُ عَائِشَةَ ؓ

ahmad-zuhd:908ʿAbdullāh > Sufyān b. Wakīʿ > Ibn ʿUyaynah > Mujālid > al-Shaʿbī > Masrūq > ʿĀʾishah ؒ

[Machine] I have never been satiated with food after the Prophet ﷺ to the extent that if I wanted to cry, I would have cried. And the family of Muhammad ﷺ never had their fill until their passing.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٠٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَحِمَهَا اللَّهُ قَالَتْ

مَا شَبِعْتُ بَعْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِنْ طَعَامٍ إِلَّا وَلَوْ شِئْتُ أَنْ أَبْكِي لَبَكَيْتُ وَمَا شَبِعَ آلُ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ حَتَّى قُبِضَ  

ahmad-zuhd:909ʿAbdullāh from my father > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Mahdī > Sufyān > al-Aʿmash > Abū al-Ḍuḥá > Man

[Machine] Aisha (may Allah have mercy on her) heard the verse: "So blessed is Allah, the best of all providers" [Al-Tur 27]. So she said, "O Lord! Bestow Your blessings upon me and protect me from the punishment of poisonous things."  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٠٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ

سَمِعَ عَائِشَةَ رَحِمَهَا اللَّهُ {فَمَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَانَا عَذَابَ السَّمُومِ} [الطور 27] فَتَقُولُ رَبِّ مُنَّ عَلَيَّ وَقِنِي عَذَابَ السَّمُومِ

[Machine] Whoever angers people for the sake of Allah, Allah suffices him; and whoever pleases people by angering Allah, Allah leaves him to the people.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩١٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ وَاقِدِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَحِمَهَا اللَّهُ قَالَتْ

مَنْ أَسْخَطَ النَّاسَ بِرِضَا اللَّهِ كَفَاهُ النَّاسَ وَمَنْ أَرْضَى النَّاسَ بِسَخَطِ اللَّهِ وَكَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى النَّاسِ

[Machine] Aisha heard reading "And stay in your houses" [Al-Ahzab 33:33][136] and she cried until her veil became wet with tears.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩١١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي الضُّحَى حَدَّثَنَا مَنْ

سَمِعَ عَائِشَةَ تَقْرَأُ {وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ} [الأحزاب 33][136] فَتَبْكِي حَتَّى تَبُلَّ خِمَارَهَا

[Machine] Aisha, may Allah have mercy on her, wished that I would be a forgotten person.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩١٢حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَالَتْ

عَائِشَةُ رَحِمَهَا اللَّهُ وَدَدْتُ أَنِّي كُنْتُ نَسْيًا مَنْسِيًّا  

ahmad-zuhd:913ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > Usāmah b. Zayd > Isḥāq a freed slave of Zāʾidah > ʿĀʾishah ؒ

[Machine] I wished I were a supported tree; I wished I hadn't been created.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩١٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ مَوْلَى زَائِدَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَحِمَهَا اللَّهُ قَالَتْ

وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي شَجَرَةٌ أُعَضَّدُ وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي لَمْ أُخْلَقْ  

ahmad-zuhd:914ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > Misʿar > Shuʿbah > Abū Burdah from his mother > al-Aswad b. Yazīd > ʿĀʾishah ؒ

[Machine] Indeed, you are doing the best form of worship, which is humility.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩١٤حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أُمِّهِ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَحِمَهَا اللَّهُ قَالَتْ

إِنَّكُمْ تَفْعَلُونَ أَفْضَلَ الْعِبَادَةِ التَّوَاضُعَ

[Machine] Narrated by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: "Decrease your sins, for you will not meet Allah with anything better than reducing your sins."  

الزهد لأحمد:٩١٥حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَحِمَهَا اللَّهُ أَقِلُّوا الذُّنُوبَ؛ فَإِنَّكُمْ لَنْ تَلْقَوُا اللَّهَ ﷻ بِشَيْءٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ قِلَّةِ الذُّنُوبَ  

ahmad-zuhd:916ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > al-Aʿmash > Tamīm > ʿUrwah > ʿĀʾishah ؒ

[Machine] I saw her dividing seventy thousand while she was repairing her shield.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩١٦حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْأَعْمَشَ عَنْ تَمِيمٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَحِمَهَا اللَّهُ قَالَ

رَأَيْتُهَا تُقَسِّمُ سَبْعِينَ أَلْفًا وَهِيَ تُرَقِّعُ دِرْعَهَا

[Machine] Aisha wrote to Muawiyah: As for what follows, certainly when a servant commits an act of disobedience towards Allah, his praising amongst the people turns into criticism.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩١٧حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا عَنْ عَامِرٍ قَالَ

كَتَبَتْ عَائِشَةُ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّ الْعَبْدَ إِذَا عَمِلَ بِمَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ عَادَ حَامِدُهُ مِنَ النَّاسِ ذَامًّا

[Machine] I wish I were a leaf from this tree.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩١٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا مَرَّتْ بِشَجَرَةٍ فَقَالَتْ

يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنْتُ وَرَقَةً مِنْ وَرَقِ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ  

ahmad-zuhd:919ʿAbdullāh > Sufyān b. Wakīʿ from my father > Muḥammad b. Muslim > Ibrāhīm b. Maysarah > ʿAbd b. Saʿīd > ʿĀʾishah > Suʾilat > Sayrihā

[Machine] He had a destiny.  

الزهد لأحمد:٩١٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا سُئِلَتْ عَنْ سَيْرِهَا فَقَالَتْ

كَانَ قَدَرًا  

ahmad-zuhd:920ʿAbdullāh from my father > Sayyār > Jaʿfar > Shaykh from Banī Tamīm Yuqāl Lah Abū Hazzār > Lī Um al-Dardāʾ Abū Hazzār Alā Uḥaddithuk Mā > al-Mayyit > Sarīrih > Balá

[Machine] To me, O father of Hazar, should I not tell you what the deceased says on his bed? He said, "Yes, please tell me." She said, "Indeed, he calls out to his family and neighbors and to those who carry his bed. Do not be deceived by the world as it has deceived me, and do not let it play with you as it has played with me. For my family did not take any burden from me, and if they were to take an oath today before Allah, they would testify for me." Umm Addarda said, "The world is more enchanting to the heart of the servant than Harut and Marut, and no servant has preferred it except that it has destroyed his cheek."  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٢٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْخٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ يُقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو هَزَّارٍ قَالَ قَالَتْ

لِيَ أُمُّ الدَّرْدَاءِ أَبَا هَزَّارٍ أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكَ مَا يَقُولُ الْمَيِّتُ عَلَى سَرِيرِهِ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَتْ فَإِنَّهُ يُنَادِي يَا أَهْلَاهُ وَيَا جِيرَانَاهُ وَيَا حَمَلَةَ سَرِيرَاهُ لَا تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ الدُّنْيَا كَمَاغَرَّتْنِي وَلَا تَلْعَبَنَّ بِكُمُ كَمَا لَعِبَتْ بِي فَإِنَّ أَهْلِي لَمْ يَحْمِلُوا عَنِّي مِنْ وِزْرِي شَيْئًا وَلَوْ حَاطُّونَ الْيَوْمَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ لَحَجُّونِي قَالَتْ أُمُّ الدَّرْدَاءِ الدُّنْيَا أَسْحَرُ لِقَلْبِ الْعَبْدِ مِنْ هَارُوتَ وَمَارُوتَ وَمَا آثَرَهَا عَبْدٌ قَطُّ إِلَّا أَصْرَعَتْ خَدَّهُ

[Machine] Khadijah, the mother of Muhammad, told me in the year one hundred and twenty-six, she used to come to my father to listen to him and tell us. She said: "Isaac al-Azraq told us, who was told by al-Mas`udi, who said: Awn ibn Abdullah said: We used to sit with Umm ad-Darda and remember Allah in her presence. They said to her, 'Perhaps we have tired you?' She said, 'Do you think that you have tired me? I have sought worship in everything, but I have not found anything that soothes my heart and strengthens my faith more than the gatherings of remembrance.'"  

الزهد لأحمد:٩٢١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ

حَدَّثَتْنِي خَدِيجَةُ أُمُّ مُحَمَّدٍ سَنَةَ سِتٍّ وَعِشْرِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ وَكَانَتْ تَجِيءُ إِلَى أَبِي فَتَسْمَعُ مِنْهُ وَتُحَدِّثُنَا قَالَتْ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ الْأَزْرَقُ حَدَّثَنِي الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ كُنَّا نَجْلِسُ إِلَى أُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ فَنَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ ﷻ عِنْدَهَا فَقَالُوا لَعَلَّنَا قَدْ أَمْلَلْنَاكِ؟ قَالَتْ تَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّكُمْ قَدْ أَمْلَلْتُمُونِي فَقَدْ طَلَبْتُ الْعِبَادَةَ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ فَمَا [137] وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا أَشْفَى لِصَدْرِي وَلَا أَحْرَى أَنْ أُصِيبَ بِهِ الدِّينَ مِنْ مَجَالِسِ الذِّكْرِ
