adab:1312 –

'Imran ibn Husayn said, "The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Modesty brings nothing but good." Bashir ibn Ka'b said, "It is written in books of wisdom, 'From modesty comes dignity. From modesty comes tranquillity.''" 'Imran said, "I relate to you from the Messenger of Allah and you then relate to me from some book?!"  

الأدب المفرد:١٣١٢ – حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي السَّوَّارِ الْعَدَوِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْحَيَاءُ لاَ يَأْتِي إِلاَّ بِخَيْرٍ فَقَالَ بُشَيْرُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ مَكْتُوبٌ فِي الْحِكْمَةِ إِنَّ مِنَ الْحَيَاءِ وَقَارًا إِنَّ مِنَ الْحَيَاءِ سَكِينَةً فَقَالَ لَهُ عِمْرَانُ أُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَتُحَدِّثُنِي عَنْ صَحِيفَتِكَ

Modesty and shyness bring about nothing except goodness

bukhari:6117 – Ādam > Shuʿbah > Qatādah > Abū al-Sawwār al-ʿAdawī > ʿImrān b. Ḥuṣayn

the Prophet ﷺ said, "Ḥayāʾ (modesty) brings about nothing except good."

Thereupon Bushayr b. Kaʿb said: It is written in ˹my˺ wisdom ˹notes˺ that Ḥayāʾ leads to solemnity; Ḥayāʾ leads to tranquility. ʿImrān said to him: I am narrating to you the saying of Messenger of Allah ﷺ and you are speaking about your ˹notes on˺ paper (wisdom book)?  

البخاري:٦١١٧ – حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ؛ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ؛ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ؛ عَنْ أَبِي السَّوَّارِ الْعَدَوِيِّ قَالَ؛ سَمِعْتُ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ

from the Prophet ﷺ that he said, "Modesty brings forth nothing but goodness."

Bushayr b. Kaʿb said: It is recorded in the books of wisdom, there lies sobriety in it and calmness of mind in it, ʿImrān said: I am narrating to you the tradition of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and you talk of your books?  

مسلم:٣٧a – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لاِبْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا السَّوَّارِ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ يُحَدِّثُ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: «الْحَيَاءُ لاَ يَأْتِي إِلاَّ بِخَيْرٍ۔»
