Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr and ʿUmar! used to offer the two ʿId prayers before delivering the Khutba.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ ؓ يُصَلُّونَ الْعِيدَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ

During the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ the moon was split into two parts and on that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Bear witness (to thus).

انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ شِقَّتَيْنِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اشْهَدُوا

The moon was split (into two pieces).

انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ

The moon was cleft asunder during the lifetime of the Prophet.

انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ فِي زَمَانِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

The moon was cleft asunder into two parts.

انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ فِرْقَتَيْنِ

Ibn 'Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr and 'Umar used to observe the two 'Id prayers before the sermon.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ كَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ الْعِيدَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ

'Ati' reported that jibir b. Abdullah came to perform 'Umra, and we came to his abode, and the people asked him about different things, and then they made a mention of temporary marriage, whereupon he said: Yes, we had been benefiting ourselves by this temporary marriage during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ and during the time of Abu Bakr and 'Umar.

نَعَمِ اسْتَمْتَعْنَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ

Bear testimony to this.

انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِشِقَّتَيْنِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اشْهَدُوا

"Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr, and Umar would pray during the two Eid before the Khutbah, then they would give the Khutbah."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ يُصَلُّونَ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ ثُمَّ يَخْطُبُونَ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

"The Messenger of Allah would walk in front of the funeral, as did Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ كَانُوا يَمْشُونَ أَمَامَ الْجَنَازَةِ

"The moon split during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Bear witness."'

انْفَلَقَ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ اشْهَدُوا

"The moon was cleft asunder during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Prophet ﷺ said to us: 'Bear witness.'"

انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اشْهَدُوا

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, 'Umar, may Allah (SWT) be pleased with them, used to offer the 'Eid prayer before the Khutbah.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ ؓ كَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ الْعِيدَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ

“The Prophet ﷺ, then Abu Bakr, then ‘Umar, used to pray the ‘Eid prayer before delivering the sermon.”

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ثُمَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ يُصَلُّونَ الْعِيدَ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ

[AI] "I witnessed the Prophet, peace be upon him, and Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman praying before the sermon on the day of Eid."

«شَهِدْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ يُصَلُّونَ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ فِي الْعِيدِ»

"There is no fara' and no' Atirah." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4222)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا فَرَعَ وَلَا عَتِيرَةَ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allahﷺ and Abu Bakr and Umar used to begin with prayer before the sermon on the day of Eid."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ كَانُوا يَبْدَءُونَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ فِي الْعِيدِ

[AI] That Prophets ﷺ , Abu Bakr, and Umar used to start with prayer before the sermon on the day of Eid.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ كَانُوا يَبْدَءُونَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ فِي الْعِيدِ

[AI] And that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to walk in front of them, with Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman.

وَأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ

[AI] I heard Anas ibn Malik saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away from the prayer to his right.

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ انْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ

[AI] I heard Anas ibn Malik saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ , Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman never missed saying the takbir."

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ لَا يَنْقُصُونَ التَّكْبِيرَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ , Abu Bakr, and Umar did not recite, meaning they did not raise their voices.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ لَا يَقْرَءُونَ يَعْنِي لَا يَجْهَرُونَ

[AI] I heard Anas say: "The Prophet ﷺ , Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman used to complete the takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) when they raised their hands and when they put them down."

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا يَقُولُ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ يُتِمُّونَ التَّكْبِيرَ إِذَا رَفَعُوا وَإِذَا وَضَعُوا

[AI] He heard Anas saying that the moon split during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .

انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

[AI] I heard Anas say that the moon split during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .

انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

[AI] We used to enjoy during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Abu Bakr and Umar, until Umar finally prohibited us from women.

كُنَّا نَتَمَتَّعُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ حَتَّى نَهَانَا عُمَرُ أَخِيرًا يَعْنِي النِّسَاءَ

[AI] We used to make it during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

قَدْ كُنَّا نَصْنَعُهُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

[AI] Yes, we enjoyed ourselves during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , Abu Bakr and Umar, until it was towards the end of Umar's caliphate.

نَعَمْ اسْتَمْتَعْنَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ فِي آخِرِ خِلَافَةِ عُمَرَ

This tradition has also been transmitted by Sa'd (b. Abi Waqqas) from the Prophet ﷺ in a similar manner through a different chain of narrators. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1470)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

We slaughtered a horse and ate it during the lifetime of Messenger of Allah ﷺ. (Using translation from Muslim 1942a)

أَكَلْنَا فَرَسًا لَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, 'Umar, may Allah (SWT) be pleased with them, used to offer the 'Eid prayer before the Khutbah. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1564)

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ يُصَلُّونَ الْعِيدَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ»

[AI] "The moon split during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. And as for the narration of Abdullah son of Amr, it is authentic."

«انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ»

[AI] "And indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to walk in front of her, along with Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman."

«وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ»

[AI] "The moon split into two during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."

«انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِرْقَتَيْنِ»

[AI] "The moon split during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Makkah."

«انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِمَكَّةَ»

[AI] "We used to prioritize during the time of the Messenger of Allah, starting with Abu Bakr, then Umar, then Uthman, then we would remain silent."

«كُنَّا نُفَاضِلُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ ثُمَّ عُثْمَانُ ثُمَّ نَسْكُتُ»

قَالَ كُنَّا نَقُولُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وعُثمَان ثُمَّ لا نُفَاضِلُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ

قَالَ انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ

[AI] "The moon split during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."

«انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»

[AI] "The moon split while we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."

«انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ وَنَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»

[AI] "The moon split while we were with the Messenger of Allah."

«انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ وَنَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»

[AI] "The moon split during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ ."

«انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»

[AI] "The moon split during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."

«انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , along with Abu Bakr and Umar used to enter the deceased's grave from the direction of the Qibla."

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ يَدْخُلُونَ الْمَيِّتَ الْقَبْرَ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْقِبْلَةِ»

[AI] "And he said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to walk between her (Aisha's) and Abu Bakr's, Umar's, and Uthman's sides.'"

وَقَالَ «قَدْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَمْشِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ»

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , Abu Bakr, and Umar used to offer prayers before the sermon on the two Eid days.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ كَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ

[AI] We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions, Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman, and then we fell silent.

كُنَّا نَعُدُّ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَصْحَابُهُ مُتَوَافِرُونَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ ثُمَّ نَسْكُتُ

[AI] "The moon split during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."

«انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»

Ibn 'Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr and 'Umar used to observe the two 'Id prayers before the sermon. (Using translation from Muslim 888)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ كَانُوا «يُصَلُّونَ الْعِيدَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ»
