"مَنْ بَاتَ عَلَى ظَهْر بَيت لَيسَ عَلَيه مَا يَسْتُرُه فَمَات فَلَا ذِمَّةَ لَهُ، وَمَنْ رَكبَ الْبَحْرَ حِينَ يَرْتَجُّ فَلَا ذِمَّةَ لَهُ".  

أَبو نعيم في المعرفة عن محمَّد بن زهير بن أَبي جبلة وقال: ذكره الحسن بن سفيان في الصحابة، ولا أَراه له صحبة
