"عَن محمدِ بنِ سيرين قَالَ: كتبَ عمرُ بنُ الخطابِ: أن لَا تَسْتَعمِلُوا البراءَ بنَ مالكٍ على جيشٍ من جيوشِ المسلمينَ، فإِنَّهُ مهلكُهُ، من الهلكة تقدم بِهمْ".
