"At the time of the Messenger of Allah, a man suffered loss of some fruit that he had purchased, and his debts increased. "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Give him charity.' So the people gave him charity, but that was not enough to pay off his debts. 'The Messenger of Allah said: 'Take what you find, but you have no right to more than that."' (meaning his creditors).  

أُصِيبَ رَجُلٌ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي ثِمَارٍ ابْتَاعَهَا وَكَثُرَ دَيْنُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَصَدَّقُوا عَلَيْهِ فَتَصَدَّقُوا عَلَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَبْلُغْ ذَلِكَ وَفَاءَ دَيْنِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خُذُوا مَا وَجَدْتُمْ وَلَيْسَ لَكُمْ إِلاَّ ذَلِكَ  

"At the time of the Messenger of Allah, a ma suffered loss of some fruit that he had purchased, and his debts increased. The Messenger of Allah said: 'give him charity.' In the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a man suffered loss affecting fruits he had bought and owed a large debt, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Give him sadaqah (alms). So the people gave him sadaqah (alms), but as that was not enough to pay the debt in full, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Take what you find. But that is all you may have.

"During the time of the Messenger of Allah, a man suffered a loss on fruits that he had sold, resulting in more debt. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Give him charity.' So the people gave him charity but it did not cover his debt. So the Messenger of Allah said to his debtors: 'Take what you have and there is nothing for you but that.'"
