ibnmajah:2445 – Abū ʿUmar Ḥafṣ b. ʿAmr > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Mahdī > Salīm b. Ḥayyān from my father > Abū Hurayrah

I heard Abu Hurairah say: “I grew up an orphan, and I emigrated as a poor man, and I was hired by the daughter of Ghazwan in return for food and a turn riding the camel. I would gather firewood for them when they stopped to camp and urge their camels along for them by singing when they rode. Praise is to Allah (SWT) who has caused His religion to prevail and has made Abu Hurairah an Imam.”  

ابن ماجة:٢٤٤٥ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُمَرَ حَفْصُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا سَلِيمُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ نَشَأْتُ يَتِيمًا وَهَاجَرْتُ مِسْكِينًا وَكُنْتُ أَجِيرًا لاِبْنَةِ غَزْوَانَ بِطَعَامِ بَطْنِي وَعُقْبَةِ رِجْلِي أَحْطِبْ لَهُمْ إِذَا نَزَلُوا وَأَحْدُو لَهُمْ إِذَا رَكِبُوا فَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ الدِّينَ قِوَامًا وَجَعَلَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ إِمَامًا

[Machine] "He used to say: 'I grew up as an orphan and lived as a poor person, making a living by working for the sons of 'Affan and the daughters of Ghazwan, providing them with food for their stomachs and preparing for them when they settled and accompanying them when they traveled. All praise is due to Allah who made religion the foundation, and Abu Huraira an imam.' It is not known that the Prophet ﷺ was aware of this, but he approved it. It is possible that this was an understanding among them based on mutual agreement, not on a contract."  

البيهقي:١١٦٥٥ – وَأَمَّا الْحَدِيثُ الَّذِي أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ الْعَدْلُ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْقَاضِي ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ثنا سُلَيْمُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ نَشَأْتُ يَتِيمًا وَهَاجَرْتُ مِسْكِينًا وَكُنْتُ أَجِيرًا لِابْنِ عَفَّانَ وَابْنَةِ غَزْوَانَ عَلَى طَعَامِ بَطْنِي وَعُقْبَةِ رِجْلِي أَحْتَطِبُ لَهُمْ إِذَا نَزَلُوا وَأَحْدُو بِهِمْ إِذَا سَارُوا فَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ الدِّينَ قِوَامًا وَأَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ إِمَامًا فَلَيْسَ فِي هَذَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلِمَ بِهِ فَأَقَرَّهُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ وَيُحْتَمَلُ أَنْ يَكُونَ هَذَا مُوَاضَعَةً بَيْنَهُمْ عَلَى سَبِيلِ التَّرَاضِي لَا عَلَى سَبِيلِ التَّعَاقُدِ
