7. Book of Heart Softeners (4/9)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day came out to us while we were reciting the Qur’an. He said: Praise be to Allah. The Book of Allah is one, and among you are the red, and among you are the white and among you are the black. Recite it before there appear people who will recite it and straighten it as an arrow is straightened. They will get their reward for it in this world and will not get it in the Hereafter. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 831)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should say, 'I have forgotten a verse, but I remember part of it.' For indeed, he has not forgotten it, but rather, it has been made to be forgotten."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Remember the Quran, for it is sharper and more penetrating than the chests of men. How terrible it is for one of you to say, 'I have forgotten an Ayah (verse), but I will not forget a poem or a song.' Rather, he has forgotten."
The Prophet ﷺ said: "It is not right for any one of you to say: 'I have forgotten such and such a verse.' Rather, he has been caused to forget. Study the Qur'an, for it escapes from the heart of man faster than a camel escapes from its fetter. " (Using translation from Nasāʾī 943)
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The example of the person who knows the Qur'an by heart is like the owner of tied camels. If he keeps them tied, he will control them, but if he releases them, they will run away." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5031)
"The likeness of the Quran is that of a hobbled camel. If its owner ties its rope, he will keep it, but if he loosens its rope it will go away." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3783)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: One who was devoted to the Qur'an will be told to recite, ascend and recite carefully as he recited carefully when he was in the world, for he will reach his abode when he comes to the last verse he recites. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1464)
One who is skilled in the Qur'an is associated with the noble, upright recording angels, and he who falters when he recites the Qur'an and finds it difficult for him will have a double reward. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1454)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No group of people gathers in a mosque, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves, except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy enfolds them, the angels surround them, and Allah mentions them to those in His presence. And whoever is slow in their actions will not be expedited by their lineage."
[Machine] "I heard Al-Bara'ah saying that there was a man who used to recite Surat Al-Kahf and his horse was tied up, and it became restless and started to move around, appearing like a mist or cloud that had surrounded him. So he came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned this to him, and the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Recite, O so and so, for that is tranquility that descended due to the recitation of the Quran.'"
The Prophet said: "The likeness of the believer who recites the Qur'an is that of a citron, the taste and smell of which are good. The likeness of a believer who does not read the Qur'an is that of a date, the taste of which is good but it has no smell. The likeness of a hypocrite who reads the Qur'an is that of a sweet basil, the smell of which is good but its taste is bitter. And the likeness of a hypocrite who does not read the Qur'an is that of a colocynth (bitter apple), the taste of which is bitter and it has no smell.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 214)
"The Prophet [SAW] said: 'The parable of the believer who recites the Qur'an is that of a citron, the taste and smell of which are good. The parable of a believer who does not read the Qur'an is that of a date, the taste of which is good but it has no smell. The parable of a hypocrite who reads the Qur'an is that of basil, the smell of which is good but its taste is bitter. And the parable of a hypocrite who does not read the Qur'an is that of a colocynth (bitter-apple), the taste of which is bitter and it has no smell.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 5038)
Whom have you appointed as your deputy over the people of the valley? He said: I have appointed Ibn Abza over them, ‘Umar said: Who is Ibn Abza? Nafiʼ said: One of our freed slaves. ‘Umar said: Have you appointed a freed slave over them? Nafi’ said: He has great knowledge of the Book of Allah, is well versed in the rules of inheritance (al-fara'id) and is a (good) qadi (judge). 'Umar said. Indeed your Prophet ﷺ said, “Allah raises some people (in status) by means of this Book and brings others low by means of it.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 232)
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, teach me the Quran." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Recite three verses from Surah Al-Ra'ad." The man said, "I am old, my tongue is heavy, and my heart is hard." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Recite three verses from Surah Al-Hamd." The man said, "It is the same for me, but please teach me a comprehensive Surah, O Messenger of Allah." So the Prophet ﷺ recited to him the verse, 'When the earth is shaken...' until 'good or evil, shall see it.' The man said, "By the One who has sent you with the truth, I do not care to add to it until I meet Allah, but tell me what good deeds I should do." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Perform the five daily prayers, observe fasting in Ramadan, perform Hajj to the House of Allah, give Zakat from your wealth, enjoin good and forbid evil."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was on a journey when he stopped and a man from his companions walked beside him. The Prophet turned to him and said, "Shall I not tell you about the best of the Qur'an?" The man replied, "Please recite it to me." The Prophet recited to him, "{Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds.}"
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, did not reveal in the Tawrah or the Injil anything like Umm Al-Quran (Al-Fatihah), which is the seven oft-recited, and (Allah said) it is divided between Myself and My slave will have what he asked for.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 914)
[Machine] Regarding the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever performs a prayer without reciting the opening chapter of the Book (Surah Al-Fatiha) in it, it is incomplete, it is incomplete."
[Machine] "I was praying in the mosque when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) called me, but I did not respond to him. So I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I was praying.' He said, 'Did Allah not say, 'Respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you?' Then he said, 'Shall I not teach you a surah that is the greatest surah in the Quran?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.' It is Surah Al-Fatiha and the Quran that has been given to me.'"
[Machine] While Gabriel was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ, he heard a creaking sound above him, so he raised his head and said, "A door in the sky has been opened, that has never been opened before." An angel came to him and said, "Rejoice with two surahs that have been given to you, which no prophet before you has been given: the Opening of the Book (Al-Fatiha) and the Concluding Surah of Al-Baqarah. You will not recite a letter of them except that you will be given (reward)."
[Machine] He said, "O Messenger of Allah, while I was reciting Surah Al-Baqarah last night, I heard a noise behind me and I thought that my horse had escaped. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Continue reading, O Abu 'Atik." So I turned around and saw a light extending between the sky and the earth. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept saying, "Continue reading, O Abu 'Atik." So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I cannot continue." And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Those are the angels who descended to hear the recitation of Surah Al-Baqarah. If you had gone on, you would have seen miracles."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allahﷺ said: "Verily, everything has a pinnacle and the pinnacle of the Qur'an is Surah Al-Baqarah. Whoever recites it in his house at night, Shaytan will not enter his house for three nights, and whoever recites it during the day, Shaytan will not enter his house for three days."

[Machine] He informed him that they had a garden in which there was a date palm tree, and it was one that he particularly took care of. However, he noticed that it was decreasing in yield. So, one night he guarded it and suddenly he saw a creature like the appearance of a young boy approaching. He greeted it with salam (peace be upon you), and he responded with the same greeting. He then asked, "Are you a jinn or a human?" The creature replied, "I am a jinn." He said, "Show me your hand." And there, he saw a dog's paw and dog's hair. He said, "This is how the jinn are created." The jinn replied, "I know that none of them is stronger than me." He then asked, "What led you to do what you did?" The jinn replied, "I heard that you are a man who loves charity, so I wanted to eat from your food." He asked, "What can protect us from you?" The jinn replied, "This verse, the verse of the Throne." He left the jinn and went to his father, and informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He has told the truth, even though he is a wicked creature."

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a man on a campaign, and he used to recite to his companions when leading them in prayer, and would conclude with 'Say: He is Allah, (the) One.' When they returned, they told the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that. He said: "Ask them why he did that." So they asked him and he said: "Because it is a description of the Most Merciful, the Mighty and Sublime, and I love to recite it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Tell him that Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime, loves him." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 993)

[Machine] The people reached a difficult pass or narrow valley. Whenever a man ascended it, he would say, "There is no deity except Allah and Allah is the Greatest," while the Prophet ﷺ would be riding a she-ass and raising it on the mountain.
