The Prophet ﷺ used to stand (in the prayer) or pray till both his feet or legs swelled. He was asked why (he offered such an unbearable prayer) and he said, "should I not be a thankful slave."

إِنْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَيَقُومُ لِيُصَلِّيَ حَتَّى تَرِمُ قَدَمَاهُ أَوْ سَاقَاهُ فَيُقَالُ لَهُ فَيَقُولُ أَفَلاَ أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا

The Prophet ﷺ used to pray so much that his feet used to become edematous or swollen, and when he was asked as to why he prays so much, he would say, "Shall I not be a thankful slave (to Allah)?"

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ أَوْ تَنْتَفِخَ قَدَمَاهُ فَيُقَالُ لَهُ فَيَقُولُ أَفَلاَ أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا

"I heard Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah say: 'The Prophet ﷺ stood (in prayer at night) until his feet swelled up, and it was said to him: Allah has forgiven your past and future sins. He said: "Should I not be a thankful slave?'"

قَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حَتَّى تَوَرَّمَتْ قَدَمَاهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ قَدْ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ قَالَ أَفَلاَ أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا

[AI] "The Prophet ﷺ used to pray until the soles of his feet became cracked. It was said to him, and he said: 'Should I not be a thankful slave?'"

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ قَدَمَاهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فَقَالَ أَوَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray until his feet became swollen. It was said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, Allah has forgiven you your past and future sins.’ He said: ‘Should I not be a thankful slave?’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1420)

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ قَدَمَاهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ؟ قَالَ أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood (in prayer) until his feet became swollen. It was said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, Allah has forgiven you your past and future sins.’ He said: ‘Should I not be a thankful slave?’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1419)

قَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ حَتَّى إِذَا تَوَرَّمَتْ قَدَمَاهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَتَفْعَلُ هَذَا وَقَدْ غُفِرَ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ؟ قَالَ «أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا»

قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يصلي حتى تزلع قدماه فقيل له في ذلك فقال ألا أكون عبدا شكورا

[AI] I heard Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah saying, "If the Prophet ﷺ intended to pray until the soles of his feet or shins became swollen, it would be said to him, and he would say, 'Should I not be a grateful servant?'"

إِنْ كَانَ يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ قَدَمُهُ أَوْ سَاقَاهُ فَيُقَالُ لَهُ فَيَقُولُ «أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا؟»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray until his feet swelled. He was asked about it and was told that Allah had forgiven his past and future sins. He replied, "Should I not be a grateful servant?"

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَرِمَ قَدَمَاهُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ أَتَفْعَلُ وَقَدْ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَِ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ؟ قَالَ «أَفَلَا أَكُونُ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا؟»

Allah's Apostle ﷺ kept standing in prayer (for such long hours) that his feet were swollen. They (his Companions) said: Verily, Allah has pardoned for thee the earlier and the later of thine sins. Thereupon he said: Should I not prove myself to be a grateful servant (of Allah)? (Using translation from Muslim 2819b)

The Prophet ﷺ used to offer night prayers till his feet became swollen. Somebody said, to him," "Allah has forgiven you, your faults of the past and those to follow." On that, he said, "Shouldn't I be a thankful slave of Allah)?" (Using translation from Bukhārī 4836)
