The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was present with a she-mule which he rode, so Ali said: If we made asses cover mares we would have animals of this type. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Only those who do not know do that.

أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَغْلَةٌ فَرَكِبَهَا فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ لَوْ حَمَلْنَا الْحَمِيرَ عَلَى الْخَيْلِ فَكَانَتْ لَنَا مِثْلُ هَذِهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ الَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ

"A mule was given as a gift to the Messenger of Allah and he rode it." 'Ali said: "If we mate a donkey with a horse, we will have one like this." The Messenger of Allah said: "That is only done by those who do not know."

أُهْدِيَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَغْلَةٌ فَرَكِبَهَا فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ لَوْ حَمَلْنَا الْحَمِيرَ عَلَى الْخَيْلِ لَكَانَتْ لَنَا مِثْلَ هَذِهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ الَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ

A mule was given to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as a gift, and we said: O Messenger of Allah, what if we mate donkeys with our mares, then we will have something like this? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “That is only done by those who do not know.”

أَنَّهُ قَالَ أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بَغْلَةٌ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَوْ أَنَّا أَنْزَيْنَا الْحُمُرَ عَلَى خَيْلِنَا فَجَاءَتْنَا بِمِثْلِ هَذِهِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

A mule was given to the Prophet ﷺ as a gift. Some of his Companions said: Why donʿt we get animals like this? He said: ʿDo you want to mate a donkey with a mare? That is only done by those who do not know.”

أُهْدِيَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ بَغْلَةٌ فَرَكِبَهَا فَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِهِ لَوِ اتَّخَذْنَا مِثْلَ هَذَا قَالَ أَتُرِيدُونَ أَنْ تُنْزُوا الْحَمِيرَ عَلَى الْخَيْلِ؟ إِنَّمَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

[AI] I said, “O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, should I not put a donkey to a horse for you, so that it produces a mule for you to ride?” He said, "Only those who do that are the ones who do not know."

قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَلَا أَحْمِلُ لَكَ حِمَارًا عَلَى فَرَسٍ فَتُنْتِجَ لَكَ بَغْلًا فَتَرْكَبُهَا؟ قَالَ: «إِنَّمَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ»

[AI] A horse was gifted to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ . He rode it and Ali said, "If we load the red camels onto the horses, we would have something similar to this." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Indeed, only those who do not know would do such a thing."

أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بَغْلَةٌ فَرَكِبَهَا فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ لَوْ حَمَلْنَا الْحُمُرَ عَلَى الْخَيْلِ فَكَانَ لَنَا مِثْلُ هَذِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

[AI] It was gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a camel that impressed us, so I said, "O Messenger of Allah, should we not replace our horses with camels until we acquire ones like this?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, only those who do not know do such a thing, and it is so."

أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بَغْلَةٌ فَأَعْجَبَتْنَا فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا نُنْزِي الْحُمُرَ عَلَى خَيْلِنَا حَتَّى تَأْتِيَ بِمِثْلِ هَذِهِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ وَكَذَلِكَ

[AI] When the owner of Ayyilah or Farwah presented his white riding camel to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , I said, "O Messenger of Allah, if we decorate the bedouin horses with red blankets, wouldn't we receive something similar to this?" He replied, "Only those who are ignorant do such things." And it has been narrated in another report from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).

لَمَّا أَهْدَى صَاحِبُ أَيْلَةَ أَوْ فَرْوَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بَغْلَتَهُ الْبَيْضَاءَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَوْ أَنْزَيْنَا الْحُمُرَ عَلَى الْخَيْلِ الْعِرَابِ لَجَاءَنَا مِثْلُ هَذِهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ ذَلِكَ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ

" عن على قال: أهديت لرسول الله ﷺ بغلة فأعجبته فركبها، فقلنا يا رسول الله: لو أنزينا الحمر على خيلنا فجاءت بمثل هذه، فقال رسول الله ﷺ : إنما يفعل ذلك الذين لا يعلمون ".
