The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “A prophet among the prophets went out on a military expedition and said to his people: ‘Let no man follow me who has contracted marriage with a woman and wishes to consummate the marriage with her but has not yet done so; nor anyone who has built houses but has not yet raised their roofs; nor anyone who has bought sheep or pregnant she-camels and is waiting for their offspring.’"

“So he went on the expedition, and when he drew near to the town at the time of the Asr prayer, or close to that, he said to the sun: ‘You are under command, and I am under command. O Allah, hold it back for us,’ so it was held back until Allah granted him victory. Then he gathered the spoils, and then it came – meaning the fire – to consume it, but it did not consume it. He said: ‘There is misappropriation among you; let one man from every tribe pledge allegiance to me.’ Then the hand of one man stuck to his hand, so he said: ‘Among you is the misappropriation; let your tribe pledge allegiance to me.’ Then the hands of two or three men stuck to his hand, and he said: ‘Among you is the misappropriation.’ So they brought a head, like the head of a cow, made of gold, and placed it down. Then the fire came and consumed it. Then Allah made the spoils permissible for us; He saw our weakness and inability, so He made them permissible for us.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «غَزَا نَبِيٌّ مِنَ الأَنْبِيَاءِ فَقَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ: لاَ يَتْبَعْنِي رَجُلٌ مَلَكَ بُضْعَ امْرَأَةٍ وَهْوَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَبْنِيَ بِهَا وَلَمَّا يَبْنِ بِهَا، وَلاَ أَحَدٌ بَنَى بُيُوتًا وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْ سُقُوفَهَا، وَلاَ أَحَدٌ اشْتَرَى غَنَمًا أَوْ خَلِفَاتٍ وَهْوَ يَنْتَظِرُ وِلاَدَهَا».

«فَغَزَا فَدَنَا مِنَ الْقَرْيَةِ صَلاَةَ الْعَصْرِ أَوْ قَرِيبًا مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لِلشَّمْسِ إِنَّكِ مَأْمُورَةٌ وَأَنَا مَأْمُورٌ اللَّهُمَّ احْبِسْهَا عَلَيْنَا فَحُبِسَتْ۔ حَتَّى فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ فَجَمَعَ الْغَنَائِمَ فَجَاءَتْ يَعْنِي النَّارَ لِتَأْكُلَهَا فَلَمْ تَطْعَمْهَا۔ فَقَالَ إِنَّ فِيكُمْ غُلُولاً فَلْيُبَايِعْنِي مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيلَةٍ رَجُلٌ۔ فَلَزِقَتْ يَدُ رَجُلٍ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ فِيكُمُ الْغُلُولُ فَلْتُبَايِعْنِي قَبِيلَتُكَ۔ فَلَزِقَتْ يَدُ رَجُلَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلاَثَةٍ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ فِيكُمُ الْغُلُولُ فَجَاءُوا بِرَأْسٍ مِثْلِ رَأْسِ بَقَرَةٍ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ فَوَضَعُوهَا فَجَاءَتِ النَّارُ فَأَكَلَتْهَا ثُمَّ أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لَنَا الْغَنَائِمَ رَأَى ضَعْفَنَا وَعَجْزَنَا فَأَحَلَّهَا لَنَا».

One of the Prophets made a holy war. He said to his followers: One who has married a woman and wants to consummate to his marriage but has not yet done so; another who has built a house but has not yet erected its roof; and another who has bought goats and pregnantshe-camels and is waiting for their offspring-will not accommpany me. So he marched on and approached a village at or about the time of the Asr prayers. He said to the sun: Thou art subserviant (to Allah) and so am I. O Allah, stop it for me a little. It was stopped for him until Allah granted him victory. The people gathered the spoils of war (at one place). A fire approached the spoils to devour them, but it did not devour them. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Some of you have been guilty of misappropriation. So one man from each tribe should swear fealty to me. The did so (putting their hands into his). The hand of one man stuck to his hand and the Prophet ﷺ said: Your tribe is guilty of misappropriation. Let all the members of your tribe swear fealty to me one by one. They did so, when the hands of two or three persons got stuck with his hand. He said: You have misappropriated. So they took out gold equal in volume to the head of a cow. They-placed it among the spoils on the earth. Then the fire approached the spoils and devoured them. The spoils of war were not made lawful for any people before us, This is because Allah saw our weakness and humility and made them lawful for us.

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ أَحَادِيثَ مِنْهَا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ غَزَا نَبِيٌّ مِنَ الأَنْبِيَاءِ فَقَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ لاَ يَتْبَعْنِي رَجُلٌ قَدْ مَلَكَ بُضْعَ امْرَأَةٍ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَبْنِيَ بِهَا وَلَمَّا يَبْنِ وَلاَ آخَرُ قَدْ بَنَى بُنْيَانًا وَلَمَّا يَرْفَعْ سُقُفَهَا وَلاَ آخَرُ قَدِ اشْتَرَى غَنَمًا أَوْ خَلِفَاتٍ وَهُوَ مُنْتَظِرٌ وِلاَدَهَا قَالَ فَغَزَا فَأَدْنَى لِلْقَرْيَةِ حِينَ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ أَوْ قَرِيبًا مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لِلشَّمْسِ أَنْتِ مَأْمُورَةٌ وَأَنَا مَأْمُورٌ اللَّهُمَّ احْبِسْهَا عَلَىَّ شَيْئًا فَحُبِسَتْ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَجَمَعُوا مَا غَنِمُوا فَأَقْبَلَتِ النَّارُ لِتَأْكُلَهُ فَأَبَتْ أَنْ تَطْعَمَهُ فَقَالَ فِيكُمْ غُلُولٌ فَلْيُبَايِعْنِي مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيلَةٍ رَجُلٌ فَبَايَعُوهُ فَلَصِقَتْ يَدُ رَجُلٍ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ فِيكُمُ الْغُلُولُ فَلْتُبَايِعْنِي قَبِيلَتُكَ فَبَايَعَتْهُ قَالَ فَلَصِقَتْ بِيَدِ رَجُلَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلاَثَةٍ فَقَالَ فِيكُمُ الْغُلُولُ أَنْتُمْ غَلَلْتُمْ قَالَ فَأَخْرَجُوا لَهُ مِثْلَ رَأْسِ بَقَرَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ قَالَ فَوَضَعُوهُ فِي الْمَالِ وَهُوَ بِالصَّعِيدِ فَأَقْبَلَتِ النَّارُ فَأَكَلَتْهُ فَلَمْ تَحِلَّ الْغَنَائِمُ لأَحَدٍ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى رَأَى ضَعْفَنَا وَعَجْزَنَا فَطَيَّبَهَا لَنَا

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ , a prophet from among the prophets went on a military expedition with his companions. He said, "No man should build a house without settling in it, or marry a woman without entering upon her, or have any need to return." He encountered the enemy when the sun was about to set. He prayed, "O Allah, it is a command, and I am under command. Stop it from setting until I take revenge between me and them." Allah caused the sun to stop setting, and they fought against the enemy. They gathered spoils of war, but the fire did not consume it, for whenever they would gather war booty, Allah would send fire on it and consume it. Their prophet said to them, "Among you, there are traitors. Let a man from every tribe come and pledge allegiance to me." They went to him and pledged allegiance. The hands of two men stuck to his hand, and they said, "You are accusing us of treachery." He said, "Indeed, there is a golden statue of a cow in the likeness of its head." So they brought it and threw it into the spoils of war. Allah sent fire, and it consumed it. At that moment, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Allah provided us with spoils of war as a mercy. He showed mercy to us and stayed the hand of the enemy because of our weakness."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ نَبِيًّا مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ غَزَا بِأَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ لَا يَتْبَعْنِي رَجُلٌ بَنَى دَارًا لَمْ يَسْكُنْهَا أَوْ تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً لَمْ يَدْخُلْ بِهَا أَوْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ فِي الرُّجُوعِ قَالَ فَلَقِيَ الْعَدُوَّ عَنْدَ غَيْبُوبَةِ الشَّمْسِ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّهَا مَأْمُورَةٌ وَإِنِّي مَأْمُورٌ فَاحْبِسْهَا عَلَيَّ حَتَّى تَقْضِيَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَحَبَسَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ فَفَتَحَ اللَّهُ لَهُ فَجَمَعُوا الْغَنَائِمَ فَلَمْ تَأْكُلْهَا النَّارُ وَكَانُوا إِذَا غَنِمُوا غَنِيمَةً بَعَثَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهَا النَّارَ فَأَكَلَتْهَا فَقَالَ لَهُمْ نَبِيِّهُمْ إِنَّ فِيكُمْ غُلُولًا فَلْيَأْتِنِي مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيلَةٍ رَجُلٌ فَلْيُبَايِعْنِي فَأَتَوْهُ فَبَايَعُوهُ فَلَزِقَتْ يَدُ رَجُلَيْنِ مِنْهُمْ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّكُمَا غَلَلْتُمَا فَقَالَا أَجَلْ صُورَةُ رَأْسِ بَقَرَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَجَاءَا بِهَا فَأَلْقَيَاهَا فِي الْغَنَائِمِ فَبَعَثَ اللَّهُ النَّارَ فَأَكَلَتْهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَطْعَمَنَا الْغَنَائِمَ رَحْمَةً رَحِمَنَا بِهَا وَتَخْفِيفًا خَفَّفَهُ عَنَّا لِمَا عَلِمَ مِنْ ضَعْفَنَا»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A prophet among the prophets waged war and said to his people, 'No man should follow me if he has married a woman and wishes to build a house with her, but has not built its roof. And no man should follow me if he has bought sheep and is waiting for their offspring.' So, he waged war and when he approached a monastery, it was either Asr prayer time or near that. He said to the sun, 'You are ordered (by Allah) and I am ordered (by Allah). O Allah, keep it stationary on me as long as You wish.' So, it was detained until Allah opened up the way for him. They collected what they had gained from the war and the fire started eating from it. It did not cease until they had taken out what looked like the hump of a cow made of gold. They put it in the loot and that was with the troops in the battlefield. The fire suddenly started burning and was consuming all that was being sold. So, they stopped it. It was then said, 'Imam has collected the zakat from enemies in Allah's cause.' The booty was not lawfully valid for any man before us. Allah made it lawful for His Messenger and the Muslims."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «غَزَا نَبِيٌّ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ فَقَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ لَا يَتْبَعْنِي رَجُلٌ قَدْ نَاكَحَ امْرَأَةً وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَبْنِيَ بِهَا وَلَا رَفَعَ بِنَاءً وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْ سُقُفَهَا وَلَا اشْتَرَى غَنَمًا وَهُوَ يَنْتَظِرُ وِلَادَهَا فَغَزَا فَدَنَا إِلَى الدَّيْرِ حِينَ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ أَوْ قَرُبَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لِلشَّمْسِ إِنَّكِ مَأْمُورَةٌ وَأَنَا مَأْمُورٌ اللَّهُمَّ احْبِسْهَا عَلَيَّ شَيْئًا فَحُبِسَتْ حَتَّى فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ فَجَمَعُوا مَا غَنِمُوا فَأَقْبَلَتِ النَّارُ لِتَأْكُلَهُ فَأَبَتِ النَّارُ أَنْ تَطْعَمَهُ فَقَالَ فِيكُمْ غُلُولٌ فَلْيُبَايِعْنِي مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيلَةٍ رَجُلٌ فَبَايَعَهُ فَلَصِقَتْ يَدُ رَجُلٍ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ فِيكُمُ الْغُلُولُ فَلْتُبَايِعْنِي قَبِيلَتُكَ فَبَايَعَتْهُ قَبِيلَتُهُ فَلَصِقَتْ بِيَدِهِ يَدُ رَجُلَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةٍ فَقَالَ فِيكُمُ الْغُلُولُ فَأَخْرَجُوا مِثْلَ رَأْسِ الْبَقَرَةِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَوَضَعُوهُ فِي الْمَالِ وَهُوَ بِالصَّعِيدِ فَأَقْبَلَتِ النَّارُ فَأَكَلَتْهُ فَلَمْ تَحِلَّ الْغَنَائِمُ لِأَحَدٍ كَانَ قَبْلَنَا وَذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ رَأَى ضَعْفَنَا فَطَيَّبَهَا لَنَا»

[Machine] About the Prophet Muhammad, may ﷺ , said: "A prophet from among the prophets went on a military expedition with his companions. He said, 'No man should build a house and not live in it, or marry a woman and not have intercourse with her, or have a need to return and then meet the enemy while the sun is setting.' He then prayed, 'O Allah! This is a command from You and also a command to me. Detain it with me until You decide between me and them.' Allah detained it with him and opened it for him. They gathered the spoils of war, but the fire did not consume them." He said, "Whenever they won any war booty, Allah used to send an ordinary fire like this fire of yours, which devoured what they had gotten. So, when Muslims won a war booty, Allah postponed the fire from it till His Apostle came to the booty and the fire was presented to consume it. When they took out a part of the booty, they got that particular part and the fire did not consume it. Then he (the Prophet) said, 'Some of you have run away from your places of assembly. Some others sold their camels and remained behind in Mecca. So these are with me, and have not got their share from the booty yet. I intend to pay them their share so that they may obey me in fighting.' So he ordered his companions to collect whatever was with them, and it was collected." Then he called them in front of him and said, "I am going to divide what Allah has given me among you and satisfy every one of you with his share, so that none of you will be left with a grudge or be unhappy for not getting his share properly." The Prophet then made them Zakat collectors of those who remained behind in Mecca to collect Zakat from them. He then returned to Medina, leaving Abdul-Rahman bin Auf as his deputy in Medina.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ نَبِيًّا مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ غَزَا بِأَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ «لَا يَتْبَعُنِي رَجُلٌ بَنَى دَارًا لَمْ يَسْكُنْهَا أَوْ تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً لَمْ يَدْخُلْ بِهَا أَوْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ فِي الرُّجُوعِ فَلَقِيَ الْعَدُوَّ عِنْدَ غَيْبُوبَةِ الشَّمْسِ» فَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ إِنَّهَا مَأْمُورَةٌ وَإِنِّي مَأْمُورٌ فَاحْبِسْهَا عَلَيَّ حَتَّى تَقْضِيَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَحَبَسَهَا اللهُ عَلَيْهِ فَفَتَحَ عَلَيْهِ فَجَمَعُوا الْغَنَائِمَ فَلَمْ تَأْكُلْهَا النَّارُ» قَالَ وَكَانُوا إِذَا غَنِمُوا غَنِيمَةً بَعَثَ اللهُ عَلَيْهَا النَّارَ فَتَأْكُلُهَا فَقَالَ «لَهُمْ نَبِيُّهُمْ إِنَّكُمْ قَدْ غَلَلْتُمْ فَلْيَأْتِنِي مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيلَةٍ رَجُلٌ فَلْيُبَايِعُونِي فَأَتَوْهُ فَبَايَعُوهُ فَلَزِقَتْ يَدُ رَجُلَيْنِ مِنْهُمْ بِيَدِهِ» فَقَالَ لَهُمَا إِنَّكُمَا قَدْ غَلَلْتُمَا فَقَالَا «أَجَلْ غَلَلْنَا صُورَةَ رَأْسِ بَقَرَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَجَاءَا بِهَا فَأَلْقَيَاهَا إِلَى الْغَنَائِمِ فَبَعَثَ اللهُ عَلَيْهَا النَّارَ فَأَكَلَتْهَا» فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ «إِنَّ اللهَ أَطْعَمَنَا الْغَنَائِمَ رَحْمَةً رَحِمَنَا بِهَا وَتَخْفِيفًا خَفَّفَهُ عَنَّا لِمَا عَلِمَ مِنْ ضَعْفِنَا»

غزا نبي من الأنبياء بعد العصر فقال لا يصحبني رجل بنى دارا لم يسكنها أو تزوج امرأة لم يبن بها قال ولم يسبق من الشمس إلاَّ شيء يسير فقال اللهم إن الشمس مأمورة وإني مأمور اللهم احبسها فحبسها الله ساعة حتى فتح الله عليه وأمر بالغنائم فجمعت فجاءت النار فلم تأكلها فقال إن فيكم غلولا فليأت من كل قبيلة رجل فلنبايعه فلصقت يده بيد رجل أو رجلين فقال فيكم الغلول فأخرجوا رأس بقرة من ذهب فألقوه في الغنائم فأكلته يعني النَّارِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم فلم تحل الغنائم لأحد قبلنا وذلك أن الله تبارك وتعالى رأى ضعفنا فطيبها لَنَاوَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَن قَتادة عَن سَعِيد عَن أبي هُرَيرة إلاَّ معاذ بن هشام عَن أَبِيه

أن نبيا من الأنبياء غزا بأصحابه فقال لا يصحبني رجل بنى دارا لم يسكنها أو تزوج امرأة لم يدخل بها أو له حاجة في الرجوع فلقى العدو عند غروب الشمس فقال اللهم إنها مأمورة وَأنا مأمور فاحبسها علي حتى تقضي بيني وبينهم فحبسها الله عليه ففتح عليه فجعلت الغنائم فلم تأكلها النار وكانوا إذا غنموا غنيمة بعث عليه النار فأكلتها فقال لهم نبيهم قد غللتم فليأتني من كل قبيلة منكم رجل فليبايعني فبايعوه فلزقت يد رجل منهم بيده فقال اجمع أصحابك فقد غلوا فجئني بهم يبايعوني فأتوه فلزقت يده بيد رجلين منهم فقال إنكم قد غللتم قالا أجل غللنا صور بقرة يَعنِي قرن بقرة من ذهب قال فجاء بها فطرحها في الغنائم فبعثت النار عليها فأكلتها فَقَالَ رَسولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم إن الله تبارك وتعالى أطعمنا الغنائم رحمة رحمنا بها لما يعلم من ضعفناوَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَن قَتادة عَن سَعِيد عَن أبي هُرَيرة إلاَّ معاذ بن هشام عَن أَبِيه يحيى بن سَعِيد عن سَعِيد

"غَزَا نَبِيٌّ مِنَ الأَنْبِيَاءِ فَقَال لقَوْمِهِ: لَا يتْبَعْنِى مِنكمْ رَجُل ملَكَ بُضْعَ امْرَأَةٍ وَهُوَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَبْنى بِهَا، وَلَمَّا يَبْنِ بِهَا، وَلَا أَحَدٌ بَنَى بيُوتًا وَلَمْ يَرْفَع سُقُوفهَا، وَلَا أَحَدٌ اشْتَرى غَنَمًا أَو خَلفَات وَهُوَ يَنْتَظرُ ولادَهَا، فَغَزَا فَدَنا مِنَ الْقْريَة صَلاة الْعَصْرِ أَوْ قَرِيبًا مِن ذَلِكَ، فَقَال للشَّمْس: إِنَّكِ مَأمُورَةٌ وأَنا مأمور، اللَّهمَّ أحبسْها عَلَيْنَا، فحُبسَتْ حَتَّى فَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيهِ، فَجَمَعَ الْغَنَائم فَجَاءَت النَّارُ لِتَأْكُلَهَا فَلَمْ تَطعَمْهَا، فقَال: إِنَّ فيكُمْ غلُولًا، فَليُبايِعْنِى مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيلة رَجُلٌ، فَلَزَقَت يَدُ رَجُلٍ بِيَدِهِ، فَقَال: فِيكُمُ الغُلُولُ، فَلْتُبايعْنِى قَبِيلَتُكَ، فَلَزَقَتْ يَدُ رَجُلَينِ أو ثَلاثَة بِيَدهِ، فَقَال: فيكُمُ الْغُلُولُ فَجَاءوا بِرَأسٍ مِثْل رَأسِ بَقَرَةٍ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ فَوَضعُوهَا، فَجَاءَت النَّارُ فَأَكَلَتهَا، ثُمَّ أَحَلَّ اللهُ لَنَا الْغَنَائِم، رَأَى ضَعْفَنَا وَعَجْزَنَا فَأَحَلَّهَا لَنَا".
