The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to continue his fast until before dawn  

أحمد:٧٠٠ – حَدَّثَنَا حُجَيْنُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُوَاصِلُ إِلَى السَّحَرِ
