" 'Umar delivered a Khutbah to us at Al-Jabiyah. He said: 'O you people! Indeed I have stood among you as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us, and he said: "I order you (to stick to) my Companions, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. Then lying will spread until a man will take an oath when no oath was sought from him, and a witness will testify when his testimony was not sought. Behold! A man is not alone with a woman but the third of them is Ash-Shaitan. Adhere to the Jama'ah, beware of separation, for indeed Ash-Shaitan is with one, and he is further away from two. Whoever wants the best place in Paradise, then let him stick to the Jama'ah. Whoever rejoices with his good deeds and grieves over his evil deeds, then that is the believer among you.'"  

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي قُمْتُ فِيكُمْ كَمَقَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِينَا فَقَالَ أُوصِيكُمْ بِأَصْحَابِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَفْشُو الْكَذِبُ حَتَّى يَحْلِفَ الرَّجُلُ وَلاَ يُسْتَحْلَفُ وَيَشْهَدَ الشَّاهِدُ وَلاَ يُسْتَشْهَدُ أَلاَ لاَ يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ إِلاَّ كَانَ ثَالِثَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْجَمَاعَةِ وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْفُرْقَةَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الاِثْنَيْنِ أَبْعَدُ مَنْ أَرَادَ بُحْبُوحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ مَنْ سَرَّتْهُ حَسَنَتُهُ وَسَاءَتْهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ فَذَلِكَ الْمُؤْمِنُ  

Umar addressed the people in al­-Jabiyah, and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood as I am standing and said: ʿTreat my Companions kindly, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. Then there will come people who will swear oaths before being asked to swear and will give testimony before being asked to give testimony. Whoever among you would like to attain the best place in Paradise, let him adhere to the jama'ah (the main body of Muslims), for the Shaitan is with one and he is further away from two. No man should be alone with a woman because the Shaitan will be the third one present. Whoever feels pleased when he does a good deed and feels bad when he does an evil deed is a believer.”

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood before us as I am standing before you, and said: ʿI urge you to show respect to my Companions, then those who come after them, then those who come after them, then lying will become so widespread that a man will start to give testimony before he is asked to do so.Whoever among you wants to attain a spacious abode in Paradise, let him adhere to the jama'ah (main body of Muslims), for the Shaitan is with the one who is alone, but he is further away from two. And no one of you should be alone with a woman for the Shaitan will be the third one present. The one who is pleased with his good deeds and upset by his bad deeds is a believer.ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 114)   

إِنِّي قُمْتُ فِيكُمْ كَمَقَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِينَا فَقَالَ «أُوصِيكُمْ بِأَصْحَابِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَفْشُو الْكَذِبُ حَتَّى يَحْلِفَ الرَّجُلُ وَلَا يُسْتَحْلَفُ وَيَشْهَدَ وَلَا يُسْتَشْهَدُ فَمَنْ أَرَادَ مِنْكُمْ بُحْبُوحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبْعَدُ أَلَا لَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ إِلَّا كَانَ ثَالِثَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالْجَمَاعَةِ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبْعَدُ أَلَا وَمَنْ سَرَّتْهُ حَسَنَتُهُ وَسَاءَتْهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ»  

[Machine] He heard my article and paid attention to it. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing among us as I am standing among you now. Then he said, "Preserve me among my companions, then among those who follow them, then among those who follow them." "Then there will be a lot of noise, falsehood will appear, a man will give testimony without being asked, and will swear without being asked to swear. Whoever loves someone for the sake of Paradise, let them stick to the congregation, as the devil is with the individual, but he is farther away from two. Beware! No man should be alone with a woman, as the devil will be the third of them. Whoever is pleased with his good deed and displeased with his evil deed, then he is a believer." This is the second Hadith in which scholars use it as evidence that consensus is a proof. It is a disputed Hadith different from Ma'tamir ibn Sulayman in seven aspects. The first aspect is this, and it is authentic.  

سَمِعَ مَقَالَتِي فَوَعَاهَا إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَفَ فِينَا كَمَقَامِي فِيكُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ «احْفَظُونِي فِي أَصْحَابِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ» ثَلَاثًا «ثُمَّ يَكْثُرُ الْهَرْجُ وَيَظْهَرُ الْكَذِبُ وَيَشْهَدُ الرَّجُلُ وَلَا يُسْتَشْهَدُ وَيَحْلِفُ وَلَا يُسْتَحْلَفُ مَنْ أَحَبَّ مِنْكُمْ بُحْبُوحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالْجَمَاعَةِ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبْعَدُ أَلَا لَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ ثَالِثُهُمَا مَنْ سَرَّتْهُ حَسَنَتُهُ وَسَاءَتْهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ» الْحَدِيثُ الثَّانِي فِيمَا احْتَجَّ بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءُ أَنَّ الْإِجْمَاعَ حَجَّةٌ حَدِيثٌ مُخْتَلَفٌ فِيهِ عَنِ الْمُعْتَمِرِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ مِنْ سَبْعَةِ أَوْجُهٍ فَالْوَجْهُ الْأَوَّلُ مِنْهَاوهذا صحيح  

Umar addressed the people in al­-Jabiyah, and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood as I am standing and said: ʿTreat my Companions kindly, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَقَامِي فِيكُمْ فَقَالَ «اسْتَوْصُوا بِأَصْحَابِي خَيْرًا ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَفْشُو الْكَذِبُ حَتَّى إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَبْتَدِئُ بِالشَّهَادَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْأَلَهَا وَبِالْيَمِينِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْأَلَهَا فَمَنْ أَرَادَ مِنْكُمْ بُحْبُوحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبْعَدُ وَلَا يَخْلُوَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ بِامْرَأَةٍ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ ثَالِثُهُمَا وَمَنْ سَرَّتْهُ حَسَنَتُهُ وَسَاءَتْهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ»  

[Machine] Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood in a similar position to mine and said, "Treat my Companions well, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. Then lies will spread, to the extent that a man will swear an oath before he is asked to do so, and he will give testimony before being asked to do so. So whoever among you desires to attain the delights of Paradise, then let him adhere to the group. Indeed, Shaytan is with the individual, and he is further from two. And let no man be alone with a woman, for indeed, the third of them is Shaytan. And whoever among you is pleased with his good deeds and displeased with his evil deeds, then he is a believer." 9176 Ishaaq ibn Ibrahim informed us, narrating from Wahb ibn Jarir ibn Hazim, who said: My father informed me, saying: I heard Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr narrating from Jabir ibn Samurah, who said: Umar addressed us at Al-Jabiyyah and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us and mentioned a similar story to the one of Jarir's narrations.  

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَامَ فِي مِثْلِ مَقَامِي هَذَا ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَحْسِنُوا إِلَى أَصْحَابِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَفْشُو الْكَذِبُ حَتَّى إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَحْلِفَ عَلَى الْيَمِينِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَحْلَفَ عَلَيْهَا وَيَشْهَدُ عَلَى الشَّهَادَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَشْهَدَ عَلَيْهَا فَمَنْ أَرَادَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَنَالَ بُحْبُوحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبَعْدُ أَلَا لَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ فَإِنَّ ثَالِثَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ أَلَا وَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ تَسُوءُهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ وَتَسُرُّهُ حَسَنَتُهُ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ» 9176 أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرِ بْنِ حَازِمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ خَطَبَنَا عُمَرُ بِالْجَابِيَةِ فَقَالَ قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ جَرِيرٍ

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ giving a sermon and he said, "Honor my companions, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. Then falsehood will appear until a person bears witness without being asked to bear witness, and a person swears an oath without being asked to swear an oath. So whoever among you loves to be granted a home in Paradise, let him adhere to the congregation, for indeed Satan is with the individual, and he is farther away from two. And a man should not be alone with a woman, for indeed their third is Satan. And the one whose good deeds bring happiness to him and whose bad deeds bring him sadness is a believer."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ فَقَالَ «أَكْرِمُوا أَصْحَابِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَظْهَرُ الْكَذِبُ حَتَّى يَشْهَدَ الرَّجُلُ وَلَا يُسْتَشْهَدْ وَيَحْلِفَ الرَّجُلُ وَلَا يُسْتَحْلَفَ فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ مِنْكُمْ بُحْبُحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبَعْدُ وَلَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ فَإِنَّ ثَالِثَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ وَمَنْ سَرَّتْهُ حَسَنَتُهُ وَسَاءَتْهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ»

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَامَ فِينَا كَقِيَامِي فِيكُمْ فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ «أَكْرِمُوا أَصْحَابِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَفْشُو الْكَذِبُ حَتَّى إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لِيَحْلِفَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَحْلَفَ وَيَشْهَدَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَشْهَدَ فَمَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَنَالَ بُحْبُحَةَ الْجَنَّةٍ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالْجَمَاعَةِ فَإِنَّ يَدَ اللهِ فَوْقَ الْجَمَاعَةِ لَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ ثَالِثُهُمَا أَلَا إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبَعْدُ أَلَا مَنْ سَاءَتْهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ وَسَرَّتْهُ حَسَنَتُهُ فَذَلِكَ الْمُؤْمِنُ»  

[Machine] Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us like I stand among you. He said, "Honor my Companions, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. Then falsehood will appear, and a man will swear an oath without being asked to do so, and he will testify without being asked to do so. So whoever desires the fragrance of Paradise, let him adhere to the congregation, for indeed, Satan is with the one who is alone, and he is farther away from two. And let no man be alone with a woman who is not lawful for him, for indeed, Satan is the third among them."  

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَامَ فِينَا كَقِيَامِي فِيكُمْ فَقَالَ «أَكْرِمُوا أَصْحَابِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَظْهَرُ الْكَذِبُ فَيَحْلِفُ الرَّجُلُ وَلَا يُسْتَحْلَفُ وَيَشْهَدُ وَلَا يُسْتَشْهَدُ فَمَنْ أَرَادَ بُحْبُحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْفَذِّ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبَعْدُ وَلَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ لَا تَحِلُّ لَهُ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ ثَالِثُهُمَا»  

" 'Umar delivered a Khutbah to us at Al-Jabiyah. He said: 'O you people! Indeed I have stood among you as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us, and he said: "I order you (to stick to) my Companions, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. Then lying will spread until a man will take an oath when no oath was sought from him, and a witness will testify when his testimony was not sought. Behold! A man is not alone with a woman but the third of them is Ash-Shaitan. Adhere to the Jama'ah, beware of separation, for indeed Ash-Shaitan is with one, and he is further away from two. Whoever wants the best place in Paradise, then let him stick to the Jama'ah. Whoever rejoices with his good deeds and grieves over his evil deeds, then that is the believer among you.'" إِنِّي قُمْتُ فِيكُمْ كَمَقَامِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِينَا فَقَالَ «أُوصِيكُمْ بِأَصْحَابِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَفْشُو الْكَذِبُ حَتَّى يَحْلِفَ الرَّجُلُ وَلَا يُسْتَحْلَفُ وَحَتَّى يَشْهَدَ وَلَا يُسْتَشْهَدُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْجَمَاعَةِ وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْفُرْقَةَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبَعْدُ لَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ إِلَّا كَانَ ثَالِثَهُمَا شَيْطَانٌ مَنْ أَرَادَ بُحْبُوحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ مَنْ سَرَّتَهُ حَسَنَتْهُ وَسَاءَتْهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ فَذَلِكَ الْمُؤْمِنُ»  

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood before us as I am standing before you, and said: ʿI urge you to show respect to my Companions, then those who come after them, then those who come after them, then lying will become so widespread that a man will start to give testimony before he is asked to do so.Whoever among you wants to attain a spacious abode in Paradise, let him adhere to the jama'ah (main body of Muslims), for the Shaitan is with the one who is alone, but he is further away from two. And no one of you should be alone with a woman for the Shaitan will be the third one present. The one who is pleased with his good deeds and upset by his bad deeds is a believer.ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 114)   

فَقَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَقَامِي فِيكُمْ فَقَالَ اسْتَوْصُوا بِأَصْحَابِي خَيْرًا ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَفْشُو الْكَذِبُ حَتَّى إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَبْتَدِئُ بِالشَّهَادَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْأَلَهَا وَبِالْيَمِينِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْأَلَهَا فَمَنْ أَرَادَ مِنْكُمْ بَحْبَحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبْعَدُ وَلَا يَخْلُوَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ بِامْرَأَةٍ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ ثَالِثُهُمَا وَمَنْ سَرَّتْهُ حَسَنَتُهُ وَسَاءَتْهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ وَاللهُ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى أَعْلَمُ  

"أُوصِيكُمْ بأصْحَابِى خَيْرًا، ثُمَّ الذِينَ يَلُونهم، ثُمَّ الذين يَلُونَهُم، ثُمَّ يَفْشُوا الكذِبُ، حتى يَحْلِفَ الرَّجُلُ وَلَا يُسْتَحَلَفُ، وَيَشْهَدُ الشاهد وَلَا يُسْتَشْهَدُ، ألَا لا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بامْرَأة إِلَّا كانَ ثَالِثهما الشيْطَانُ، عَلَيْكمْ بالْجَمَاعة، وَإيَّاكُمْ والفُرْقَةَ، فَإِن الشَّيْطَان مَعَ الوَاحدِ، وَهُوَ مِنَ الاثْنِيْن أْبعَدُ، من أرَادَ بُحْبُوحةَ الجَنَّةِ فَليَلزَم الجَمَاعة، مَنْ سَرَّتْهُ حَسَنتُهُ وسَاءَتْهُ سيِّئُتُهُ فذلكم المؤمن ".  

"أكرموا أصحابى، ثم الذين يلونَهم، ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم يظهر الكَذبُ، حتى يَحْلِفَ المرءُ قبلَ أن يُسْتَحلفَ، ويَشْهَدَ قَبْلَ أن يُسْتَشهَدَ، فمن أرادَ بحبُوحَةَ الجنةِ فعليه بالجماعةِ، وإيَّاكم والفُرقْةَ، فإِن الشيطانَ مع الواحِد، وهو من الاثنين أبَعدُ، لا يخلوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بامرأهٍ، فإن ثالثَهمُا الشيطانُ، ومن سَرَّتْهُ حَسَنتُهُ وساءته سيئتُهُ فهو مؤمِنٌ" .
