ahmad-zuhd:2023ʿAbdullāh from my father > Ḥajjāj > Muḥammad b. Ṭalḥah > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Thurdān Abū Qays al-Awdī

[Machine] And Alqamah used to say, "Woe unto you, why is this body being tortured?" And he would say, "Indeed, the matter is serious, indeed, the matter is serious."  

الزهد لأحمد:٢٠٢٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ثُرْدَانَ أَبِي قَيْسٍ الْأَوْدِيِّ قَالَ كَانَ الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ يُجْهِدُ نَفْسَهُ فِي الصَّوْمِ وَالْعِبَادَةِ حَتَّى يَضْمُرَ جَسَدُهُ وَيَصْفَرَّ قَالَ

وَكَانَ عَلْقَمَةُ يَقُولُ وَيْحَكَ لِمَ تُعَذِّبُ هَذَا الْجَسَدَ؟ فَيَقُولُ إِنَّ الْأَمْرَ جِدٌّ إِنَّ الْأَمْرَ جِدٌّ
