أَبُو الْعَالِيَةِ، عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ would not get up from a gathering until he said, "Glory be to You, O Allah, and I praise You. I seek Your forgiveness and I turn to You in repentance." Then he would say, "Indeed, this is an expiation for whatever occurs in the gathering."

الطبراني:٤٤٤٥ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ الضَّبِّيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ عَنْ أَخِيهِ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ قَالَ

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَا يَقُومُ مِنْ مَجْلِسٍ حَتَّى يَقُولَ «سُبْحَانَكَ اللهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ» ثُمَّ يَقُولُ «إِنَّهَا كَفَّارَةٌ لِمَا يَكُونُ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ»

Kaffarat al-Majlis: Expiation of whatever negative may have occurred in a gathering

abudawud:4859 – Muḥammad b. Ḥātim al-Jarjarāʾī And ʿUthmān b. Abū Shaybah al-Maʿná > ʿAbdah b. Sulaymān > al-Ḥajjāj b. Dīnār > Abū Hāshim > Abū al-ʿĀliyah > Abū Barzah al-Aslamī

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to get up from the assembly he used to say toward the end:

subḥānak Allāhummā wa-bi-ḥamdika, ash-hadu an lā ilāha illā anta, astaghfiruka wa-atūbu ilayka

(Glory be to You. O Allah and with Your praise, I testify that there is no god but You; I seek Your forgiveness, and turn to You in repentance.)

A man asked: Messenger of Allah! you utter the words now which you did not do in the past? He replied: ˹This is a˺ kaffarah (expiation) for what takes place in the assembly.

أبو داود:٤٨٥٩ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْجَرْجَرَائِيُّ وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ الْمَعْنَى أَنَّ عَبْدَةَ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ أَخْبَرَهُمْ عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ الأَسْلَمِيِّ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ بِأَخَرَةٍ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَقُومَ مِنَ الْمَجْلِسِ:

(سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ)

فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَتَقُولُ قَوْلاً مَا كُنْتَ تَقُولُهُ فِيمَا مَضَى قَالَ: «كَفَّارَةٌ لِمَا يَكُونُ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ»

ahmad:8818 – Haytham > Ismāʿīl b. ʿAyyāsh > Suhayl b. Abīṣāliḥ from his father > Abū Hurayrah

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said: The expiation for gatherings is for the servant to say: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I seek forgiveness from You and I repent to You."

أحمد:٨٨١٨ – حَدَّثَنَا هَيْثَمٌ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِيصَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ that he said, "Whoever sits in a gathering where there is excessive vain talk, then says before getting up, 'Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to You. There is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You,' except that he will be forgiven for what was in that gathering."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «مَنْ جَلَسَ فِي مَجْلِسٍ كَثُرَ فِيهِ لَغَطُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقُومَ سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَبِحَمْدِكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ إِلَّا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا كَانَ فِي مَجْلِسِهِ ذَلِكَ»

"مَا مِنْ إِنْسَان يَكُونُ فِي مَجلِس فَيَقُولُ حين يُرِيدُ أن يَقُومَ سبحَانَك اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، لَا إِلَه إلا أَنْتَ، أسْتغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيكَ إِلًّا غفِرَ لَهُ مَا كَانَ في ذَلك المجلَس".
