We asked Ibn Abbas about sitting on one's buttocks (in prayer). (ala alqad mein) He said: It is sunnah. We said to him: We find it a sort of cruelty to the foot. Ibn 'Abbas said: It is the sunnah of your Apostle ﷺ.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ وَتَقَارَبَا فِي اللَّفْظِ قَالاَ جَمِيعًا أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ طَاوُسًا يَقُولُ قُلْنَا لاِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي الإِقْعَاءِ عَلَى الْقَدَمَيْنِ فَقَالَ هِيَ السُّنَّةُ فَقُلْنَا لَهُ إِنَّا لَنَرَاهُ جَفَاءً بِالرَّجُلِ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ بَلْ هِيَ سُنَّةُ نَبِيِّكَ ﷺ

we asked Ibn ‘Abbas about sitting on heels between the two prostrations. He said: It is the sunnah. We said: We look upon it as a pressure on the foot. He said: This is the sunnah of your Prophet ﷺ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ طَاوُسًا يَقُولُ قُلْنَا لاِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي الإِقْعَاءِ عَلَى الْقَدَمَيْنِ فِي السُّجُودِ فَقَالَ هِيَ السُّنَّةُ قَالَ قُلْنَا إِنَّا لَنَرَاهُ جَفَاءً بِالرَّجُلِ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ هِيَ سُنَّةُ نَبِيِّكَ ﷺ

"We asked Ibn Abbas about squatting (sitting) on the heels. He said: 'It is the Sunnah.' We said: 'We think that it is difficult for a man.' He said: 'Rather, it is Sunnah of your Prophet.'"

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ طَاوُسًا يَقُولُ قُلْنَا لاِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي الإِقْعَاءِ عَلَى الْقَدَمَيْنِ قَالَ هِيَ السُّنَّةُ فَقُلْنَا إِنَّا لَنَرَاهُ جَفَاءً بِالرَّجُلِ قَالَ بَلْ هِيَ سُنَّةُ نَبِيِّكُمْ ﷺ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ طَاوُسًا يَقُولُ قُلْنَا لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي الْإِقْعَاءِ عَلَى الْقَدَمَيْنِ؟ فَقَالَ هِيَ السُّنَّةُ قَالَ فَقُلْنَا إِنَّا لَنَرَاهُ جَفَاءً بِالرِّجْلِ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ هِيَ سُنَّةُ نَبِيِّكَ ﷺ

[Machine] "He heard a peacock saying, 'I asked Ibn Abbas about iqa' (a type of bird), and he said, 'It is a sunnah (recommended act).' I said, 'We see it as detestable.' Ibn Abbas said, 'Indeed, it is a sunnah.' And it is correct to allow it on the condition mentioned by Muslim."

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ طَاوُسًا يَقُولُ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي الْإِقْعَاءِ قَالَ «هِيَ سُنَّةٌ» قُلْتُ إِنَّا نَرَاهُ جَفَاءً فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ «إِنَّهَا السُّنَّةُ» وصح في إباحة ذلك على شرط مسلم

[Machine] He heard Ta'us saying, "We asked Ibn Abbas about performing the Iqa' on both feet, and he said it is a Sunnah." We said, "But we see that as something harsh when a person does it." He replied, "No, it is the Sunnah of your Prophet Muhammad ﷺ."

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ طَاوُسًا يَقُولُ قُلْنَا لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي الْإِقْعَاءِ عَلَى الْقَدَمَيْنِ فَقَالَ هُوَ سُنَّةٌ فَقُلْنَا فَإِنَّا نَرَى ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْجَفَاءِ إِذَا فَعَلَهُ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ بَلْ هِيَ سُنَّةُ نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ

"عَنْ طَاوسُ قَالَ: قُلنَا لابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِى الإِقْعَاءِ عَلَى الْقَدَمَيْن، قَالَ: هِىَ السُّنَّةُ، فَقُلنَا: إِنَّا لَنَرَاهُ جَفَاءً بِالرَّجُلِ، قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: بَلْ هىَ سُنَّةُ نَبِيِّكَ ﷺ ".
