The Prophet ﷺ said: Acts of begging are lacerations with which a man disfigures his face, so he who wishes may preserve his self-respect, and he who wishes may abandon it; but this does not apply to one who begs from a ruler, or in a situation which makes it necessary.  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَسَائِلُ كُدُوحٌ يَكْدَحُ بِهَا الرَّجُلُ وَجْهَهُ فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَبْقَى عَلَى وَجْهِهِ وَمَنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ الرَّجُلُ ذَا سُلْطَانٍ أَوْ فِي أَمْرٍ لاَ يَجِدُ مِنْهُ بُدًّا  

the Messenger of Allah said: "Asking is a labor that toils on a man's face, except if a man asks for something from the Sultan (ruler), or he asks for something that he cannot do without."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الْمَسْأَلَةَ كَدٌّ يَكُدُّ بِهَا الرَّجُلُ وَجْهَهُ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ الرَّجُلُ سُلْطَانًا أَوْ فِي أَمْرٍ لاَ بُدَّ مِنْهُ  

[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who said, "Yes, I heard him say, 'The questions are like a sharp knife that a person sharpens his face with. So whoever wants to keep his face, let him not ask them, and whoever wants to leave it, except for when a man asks a person of authority or asks about a necessary matter."  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَسَائِلُ كَدٌّ يَكُدُّ بِهَا الرَّجُلُ وَجْهَهُ فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَبْقَى عَلَى وَجْهِهِ وَمَنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَإِلَّا أَنْ يَسْأَلَ رَجُلٌ ذَا سُلْطَانٍ أَوْ يَسْأَلَ فِي أَمْرٍ لَا بُدَّ مِنْهُ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, these matters are so difficult that they can cause one of you to lose his face." Ibn Ja'far said: "These are burdens that a man bears unless he asks a person of authority or in a matter that is necessary."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْمَسَائِلَ كَدٌّ يَكُدُّ بِهَا أَحَدُكُمْ وَجْهَهُ وَقَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ كُدُوحٌ يُكْدَحُ بِهَا الرَّجُلُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْأَلَ ذَا سُلْطَانٍ أَوْ فِي أَمْرٍ لَا بُدَّ مِنْهُ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْمَسْأَلَةَ كَدٌّ يَكُدُّ بِهَا الرَّجُلُ وَجْهَهُ فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَبْقَى عَلَى وَجْهِهِ وَمَنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْأَلَ ذَا سُلْطَانٍ أَوْ يَنْزِلَ بِهِ أَمْرٌ لَا يَجِدُ مِنْهُ بَدًّا»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, these matters are like a heavy burden that weighs upon the face of someone, unless a man with authority or a necessary matter asks about them."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْمَسَائِلَ كَدٌّ يَكُدُّ بِهَا أَحَدُكُمْ وَجْهَهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْأَلَ الرَّجُلُ ذَا سُلْطَانٍ أَوْ أَمْرًا لَا بُدَّ لَهُ مِنْهَ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ( ﷺ ) said: "Every question is a hook and a poke on the face of a man, except when the man asks his father or the ruler who is responsible."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «الْمَسْأَلَةُ كُدُوحٌ وَخُدُوجٌ فِي وَجْهِ الرَّجُلِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْأَلَ الرَّجُلُ أَبَاهُ أَوِ الْأَمِيرَ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ»  

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Begging will be but lacerations on a man's face (on the Day of Resurrection). Unless he asks a man in authority or when he has no alternative."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2600)

"المسائل كَدُوحٌ يَكدَحُ بها الرجلُ وجْهَهُ، فمن شاءَ أبقى على وجْهِهِ، ومن شاءَ تركَ إِلا أَن يسألَ الرَّجلُ ذا سلطان أَو في أَمرٍ لا يجدُ منه بُدًا" .
